Jeep hit by landslide, driver dies

            Rampur, Sept 13: A person died while four others sustained injuries when a landslide buried them along with vehicles at Tinau rural municiaplity-3 of Palpa-Butwal road section along the Siddhartha Highway today.

            They were buried in a jeep (Lu 1 Ja 2617) coming from Butwal to Palpa and car (Lu 2 Cha 5938) heading towards Butwal from Palpa district. The deceased has been identified as Kamal Pariyar, 26, of Tilottama municipality at Rupandehi district, according to the District Police Office, Palpa.

            Two people onboard the jeep remained unscathed while among 13 travelling in the jeep, one died in the landslide. Nine were safe while three were injured, informed Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Krishna Raj Sapkota.

            Big rocks knocked down the vehicles, police said.

            The injured ones were Lalit Malla, 31, of Tilottama municiplaity-2, Prem Sunar, 22, of ward no 9 in Tilottama municipality, Milan Shah, 20, of Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City-2 and Narendra Hamal of ward no 12 of Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City.

            They were receiving treatment at Old Medical College at Bharatpur, Chitwan. Hamal’s health condition is reported critical, police said.            

Traffic movement halted along the road section due to landslide has been resumed after the landslide debris was cleared at around 3pm.
