Jeep plunge leaves six people disappeared

Sankhuwasabha, Sept 18: At least six people went missing when a Dharan-bound jeep from district headquarters Khandbari carrying patients met with an accident at 10.30 last night.

Three members of the same family were disappeared when the jeep (Kp 1 Ja 3749) skidded off the Akkar ridge at Dharmadevi municipality-8 and plunged into the Arun River.

According to Mim Bahadur Lama, Deputy Superintendent of Police at District Police Office, two-month-old baby Samir Shrestha, his father Sangam Shrestha and mother Sadikshya Shrestha of Khandbari-9 went missing in the river. Other disappeared are Pramis Thapa Magar, Khabarman Magar and driver Santosh BK.

A police team was mobilized from Khandbari in the accident site immediately after the jeep plunge. Rescue operation has been troubled with the upsurge of Arun River due to incessant rain for the past couple of days, Lama said.

Security personnel along with Chief District Officer have already reached the site for rescue operation and coordination.
