Agreements signed with China are on process of implementation: PM

KATHMANDU, Nov 27: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and visiting State Councilor and Defense Minister of China, Wei Fenghe, have expressed common views on moving forward regarding the consensus and agreements in the implementation process.

During a courtesy meeting at the official residence of the Prime Minister in Baluwatar on Sunday, Prime Minister Oli briefed Wei that the ‘trade and transit agreement’ and other bilateral high-level agreements signed during the PM Oli’s visit to China in 2016 are on the process of implementation.

Recalling that Chinese President Xi Jinping ‘s Nepal visit held last year was historic and successful, Prime Minister Oli reiterated the commitment not to allow the Nepali soil to be used against China, PM Oli’s foreign affairs advisor Rajan Bhattarai quoted the PM as saying.

Prime Minister Oli, who is also leading the Ministry of Defence, expressed gratitude towards Chinese side for its continued support to Nepal in different sectors including telecommunications, electricity, economic, railway and physical infrastructures.

He viewed that Nepal wishes to learn from China’s development and success in the sector of prosperity. In response, the Chinese Minister Wei said that there was no problem from Chinese side in implementation of the agreements signed with Nepal.

Wei further said that the relation between one and the other country should not be linked to the third countries as both the countries are in favour of peace.

Minister Wei viewed that China is in favour of regional and international peace.

He also informed that during the meeting with Chief of Army Staff, Purna Chandra Thapa, discussed about the matters of providing additional military support to Nepal.

On the occasion, both leaders expressed satisfaction over deep, long and trouble-free bilateral relations.
