Nuclear medicine service begins in Chitwan

CHITWAN, Dec 21: Nuclear medicine service – a highly modern and specialized service of medical science has begun in Chitwan Medical College (CMC).

The service has come into operation with the import of high-tech inspect CT machine.

CMC has claimed that this is so far the first of its kind equipment available in Nepal.

“Even this equipment is currently in the process of installation in India”.

CMC’s managing director Prof Dr Harischandra Neupane said they have successfully imported the machine which is also not easily available in the advanced countries including the US, the UK and Canada.

The hospital has invested Rs 140 million for the import and installation of the equipment to bring this service into operation, Dr Neupane shared.

Patients from across the country including federal capital Kathmandu would visit the hospital for the service with this coming into operation, he added.

According to chief of Department of Nuclear Medicine Dr Jeewan Poudel, critical examination of almost all body parts including heart, brain, thyroid, lungs, kidney, liver and bone could be undertaken with the service in place.

Patients of almost all departments of medical sciences would be benefited from the service, the hospital claimed.

“CMC would provide successful treatment services to all the problems related to cancers including thyroid cancer”, Dr Poudel further shared.

Under this service, radiological medicine would be supplied to the vein of the patient and the radiation coming out from the body would be examined through inspect CT.

With the use of this procedure the critical examination of the human organs is possible.
