Kathmandu, Nov 3 : Children as Zone of Peace (CZOP)-National Campaign has asked the government to expand the ‘Day Meal Programme’ upto grade six students of the community schools.
Issuing a press statement on Thursday, the CZOP urged the government to ensure budget for the Day Meal Programme to a total of 434,000 sixth graders of the community schools.
The sixth graders of the community schools are deprived of their day meal after the Ministry of Finance curtailed the budget for the title from the fiscal year 2079/080 BS.
The Ministry is urged to allocate budget for the title in order to ensure nutrition to the students and promote their learning activities, the CZOP stated.

Motorable bridge constructed
Myagdi, Nov 3: A motorable bridge has been constructed over Gharkhola stream at the bordering area of wards no. 5 and 6 in Annapurna Rural Municipality, Myagdi.
Chairman of Annapurna Rural Muncipality-5 Rajesh Tilija said that the 25 metres long bridge along the Pokharebagar-Paudhar road section has come into operation.
The Pokharebagar-Paudhar road section will have vehicular movement in all seasons after the bridge construction, Tilija said.
Paudhar village had to suffer due to lack of road accessibility in the rainy season prior to the bridge construction.
The Fewa-BM KV, a construction company based in Pokhara, had won the bidding for construction at Rs 28.2 million some four years ago.

10 quintal sugar seized
Kavre, Nov 3: A joint team of Nepal Police and Traffic Police on Thursday seized 10 quintal of sugar from Kavrebhanjyang of Dhulikhel Municipality-9. Police recovered the sugar supplied by hiding in 33 sacks during a security check.
The security bodies have suspected the smuggling of sugar from different districts of the eastern Tarai via BP Highway in the recent days as the Kathmandu Valley has witnessed the shortage of sugar during this festive season.
Information officer of District Police Office Raj Kumar Shrestha confirmed that the sugar is being imported illegally via the BP Highway.
In order to control the illegal supply of sugar, the police has intensified security checks in the highway.
Earlier on October 19, the Area Police Office, Banepa, had seized 92 sacks of sugar that was brought by evading taxes. The sugar was supplied by covering from the sacks filled with paddy.

Pokhara’s promotional programme begins in eastern belt
Bardibas, Nov 3: A promotional programme to lure tourists in Pokhara from the eastern districts of the country has been started in partnership between Hotel Association, Pokhara, and Pokhara Metropolitan City.
A team of hoteliers, people’s representatives, media persons and stakeholders from Pokhara is visiting the business leaders and tourism related institutions in the eastern part of the country, extending them an invitation to visit Pokhara.
Chairman of Hotel Association, Pokhara, Laxman Subedi said that the team from Pokhara discussed with the business community in Bardibas of Mahottari district to develop tourism partnership.
The number of domestic tourists in Pokhara has increased lately, thanks to various promotional events.
Hoteliers Gopal Karki of Bardibas said that Nepal’s tourism industry could be made dynamic through the development of domestic tourism and expressed his readiness for the partnership to promote domestic tourism.
Likewise, Madhesh province committee member of Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN) Dipendra Parajuli said that some of the destinations are not explored due to lack of infrastructures including road network.
The team from Pokhara is scheduled to visit Biratnagar, Birtamod, Dhankuta and other cities in the eastern belt and hold consultations with the tourism fraternities there.
Pokhara’s tourism entrepreneurs are extending their invitations to both the domestic and international tourists with the slogan of “Jau Hai Pokhara” (Let’s Go Pokhara) for long.

Army Chief returns home from China visit
Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Sita Ram Khadka welcome the CoAS at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).
During the visit to the northern neighbour, CoAS Sharma attended opening ceremony of the 10th Beijing Xiangshan Forum and held a meeting with Joint Chief of Staff Gen. Liu Zhenli of the Central Military Commission (CMC), People’s Liberation Army, according to NA Directorate Public Relations and Information.
Likewise, CoAS Sharma visited various units and academic institutions of PLA at Xian City, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Sharma had left here for China on October 27.

Children being administered vitamin ‘A’
Kathmandu, Nov 3: Children under five years of age are being administered Vitamin ‘A’ and deworming tablets across the country today and tomorrow.
National Vitamin ‘A’ programme of the Ministry of Health and Population is taking a lead to administer Vitamin ‘A’ and deworming tablets.
Chief of Child Health and Immunization Section at the Department of Health Services, Dr Abhiyan Gautam, said that the children from six months up to five years would receive Vitamin ‘A’ and deworming tables from women health volunteers who have been mobilised across the country.
The first phase of the Vitamin ‘A’ campaign scheduled for October 19 and 20 is being implemented today as that could not happen in October due to Dashain vacation.
Around 2.7 million children would be administered Vitamin ‘A’ and deworming tablets to 2.4 million children.
