PM Dahal roots for unity among revolutionary communists for welfare of country, people

Kathmandu, March 4: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has pressed for unity among the revolutionary communists for the interests of the country and people.

He emphasized on this while addressing an interaction on ‘peace process, republic and today’s politics’ organized by the Sahid Pratisthan Nepal here today.

Stating that unity and collaboration among the revolutionary forces was necessary even for fulfilling the martyrs’ dreams, he stressed on the need for them to come to a single place for that purpose.

Also the Chairperson of the CPN (Maoist Centre), PM Dahal said initiatives are on for a broader communist unity and not only for the Socialist Front to fulfill the martyrs’ dreams.

Describing the Maoist as a rushing river and not a static pond in terms of ideology and practice, he said,” The Maoist cannot remain in status quo, enjoying the continuation of the old. Maoist is a breed that creates newer circumstances. There has been a break in the continuity on the last day of the Martyr’s Week.”

The Prime Minister said that today was a special day. “It also became a day with new upheaval. This is a big thing. The situation is such that revolutionaries are going to be one and initiatives are also on for forging a broader communist unity,” he added.

He shared that although attempts were made to finish them off by encircling them, they have tore that apart and moved ahead.

The PM stated that the martyrs of the People’s War have been declared as national martyrs under his own leadership and expressed the commitment to soon declare the remaining martyrs as so. He declared on the occasion that the remaining tasks of the peace process would be concluded and topics as reparation, employment and other benefits to the families of the martyrs and the disappeared persons would also be addressed.

Stressing that Nepal needed to move ahead adopting what he called a scientific and balanced geopolitical foreign policy, PM Dahal said attention should be paid to that end. He also made it clear that he would carry out works becoming responsible to the nation and the people.

Nepal Communist Party General Secretary Netra Bikram Chand said the federal democratic republic was established on the foundation of the People’s War and the People’s Movement, pointing out the need of waging a struggle against the tendency of negating the People’s War.

He added that they were ready to take up new responsibility with the goal of making the country prosperous.Central Executive Member of Nepal Samajbadi Party Janak Shah and spokesman of the Revolutionary Communist Party Nepal, Dharmendra Bastola, among other leaders spoke on the need of fulfilling the martyrs’ dreams at the programme presided over by Dharmashila Chapagai, Chairperson of the Sahid Pratisthan.

The CPN (Maoist Centre) and other Maoist factions have been observing Fagun 14 to 21 of the Nepali calendar as the Martyr’s Week.

02-       COVID-19 vaccination campaign in Rukum Paschim

Triveni (Rukum Paschim), March 4: A COVID-19 vaccination campaign is going to be conducted in Rukum Paschim from today.

Vaccination Supervisor of Health Office in Rukum Paschim, Krishna Khadka, shared that a booster dose vaccination campaign is going to be conducted in four of the six local levels of the district. The campaign will run until February 7.

Prior to this, the vaccination program has been conducted in Musikot and Chaurjahari municipalities. The vaccination will be carried out in Sanibheri, Banfikot, Triveni rural municipalities and Aathbiskot municipality from February 4 to 7, Khadka said.

A total of 2,290 booster doze of COVID-19 vaccine have arrived at the health service office for the four local levels of the district. The vaccine will be administered to people above 12 years of age.

In addition to this, people who previously missed the vaccination against corona virus will also be able to get vaccinated.

The Health Service Office has said that preparations have been made to administer vaccination in coordination with the relevant local level health service branches and health volunteers.

03-       Sale of turmeric worth 20 million in a year from Siddhipur

Udayapur (Gaighat), March 4: Turmeric worth 20 million has been sold this year from Siddhipur village located in Chaudandi Gadhi municipality of Udayapur.

The farmers of Siddhipur have been involved in commercial turmeric farming since 1992. Out of 50 households in Siddhipur, 30 household are cultivating turmeric commercially, said Netra Bahadur Pulami Magar, a farmer of Siddhipur.

Though turmeric cultivation started in the village since 1992, all the villagers have started cultivating turmeric commercially since 2002, and now the village itself has become a turmeric farming zone, added Magar.

Now more than two million rupees worth of turmeric is sold annually from the village. According to another farmer, Indra Bahadur Magar, there has been an increase in cultivation and production since the introduction of new modern varieties of turmeric. He said that one household earns more than three hundred thousand annually from turmeric sales.

Traders from Biratnagar have been coming to buy turmeric from the village around November and December every year. Ward member Devi Magar of Chaudandi-6 said that turmeric has been the source of financial income for Siddhipur residents.

According to District Agricultural Knowledge Center Udayapur, turmeric is currently being grown in 559 hectares of land in Udayapur district.

Information officer of the center, Phoolmaya Sherpa, said that Siddhipur village has the highest production of turmeric is the district and has been designated a turmeric zone.

Similarly, Saune, Khambu of Triyuga municipality, Ampatar of Rautamai rural municipality, Valayadanda of Udayapurgadhi rural municipality, Risku of Katari municipality along with Dumre and Mainamaini of Belaka municipality are important turmeric production areas, according to the Agricultural Knowledge Center.

04-       Two killed, one seriously injured in road accident

Jaleshwar (Mahottari), March 4: Two people have died in a road accident that took place at Matihani Janakpur road section of Mahottari district.

In the accident that took on Sunday evening, 60-year-old Akbar Rayin of Pipra Rural Municipality-5 of Mahottari and 60-year-old Rajkishore Yadav of Kshireshwarnath Municipality-1 of Dhanusha district were killed, according to spokesperson of District Police Office Mahottari, Deputy Superintendent of Police Dilip Kumar Giri.

The accident took place when a jeep with Indian registration number (BR 06 PD 3330) hit a tractor (Madhesh Pradesh 01 Ta 3009) on the road section located in Pipra Rural Municipality-1 of Mahottari. Akbar was travelling in the tractor.

Likewise, Rajkishore died when the bicycle he was riding was hit by the jeep as it tried to flee after hitting the tractor.

According to police, 60-year-old Jhapsi Kawadi of Pipara rural municipality -5, also travelling on the tractor has been seriously injured. He is undergoing treatment at the Provincial Hospital Janakpur.

On the other hand, the jeep also overturned on the side of the road in Matihani municipality-4 while trying to escape after the accident. The driver of the jeep however has absconded.

05-       An initiative for communist unity has begun: PM Dahal

Kathmandu, March 4: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that the initiative of a communist unity has been started.

In a meeting with the families of Sukhani Martyrs held on the last day of Martyrs’ Week at the Prime Minister’s residence this morning, he said, “we have high respect for the martyrs and starting today we have taken initiatives for a communist unity.”

 It may be noted that the then panchayat rulers had murdered Ramnath Dahal, Netra Ghimire, Biren Rajbanshi, Krishna Kuinkel and Narayan Shrestha in the Sukhani forest in Jhapa district on Falgun 21, 2029 BS.

            Members of the Sukhani Martyrs’ family Biseshwara Dahal, Jeevan Ghimire, Ravin Dahal, Buddha Ghimire and others participated in the meeting.

The CPN (Maoist Center) has been celebrating Martyrs’ Week from Falgun 14 to 21 in the Lunar calendar to link the communist movement and the people’s war.

06-       UML secretariat meeting concludes in Balkot

Bhaktapur, March 4: The UML secretariat meeting has concluded at the Balkot residence of UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli.

The meeting concluded with a decision that the CPN-UML is ready to move forward in a new way if the current ruling coalition breaks up. Talking to the media after the meeting, UML leader Pradeep Gyawali said that it seems there is a serious crisis in the ruling coalition. “And if the Prime Minister is ready to break the alliance, we are ready to discuss in a new way,” he said.

Leader Gyawali said that a decision was also taken to hold a meeting with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal to discuss a new way forward.

Meanwhile, a discussion is underway between UML Chair Oli and Janamat Party President CK Raut in Balkot. Leader Oli’s press coordinator Ramkrishna Bajgain shared that the discussion between the two leaders is centered on the current political developments.

07-       New houses for 1500 poor families of Gandaki

Gandaki, March 4:  A total of 1500 poor households of Gandaki province have got new houses under Janata Aawas program.

A total of 1,501 houses have been completed and handed over to the 2,911 beneficiaries identified as poor in the province, according to the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development and Transport.

Spokesperson of the Ministry Tikaram Poudel said that of the contract signed 435 houses have yet to be handed over along with the final payment for technical reasons. There are some requirements that the household has to fulfill, including building of toilets.

The federal government started the Janata Aaawas or housing program from the year 2066-067 to provide safe housing for Dalit, poor, endangered and highly marginalized communities.

The program which was being implemented at by the federal government was transferred to the provincial government from the year 2075-076. The program is being implemented through the infrastructure development office in the district under the provincial government.

Beneficiaries have received subsidy for two-storey buildings.

Paudel said the funds are provided to the beneficiaries in four installments. According to the approved program of the federal government, only the beneficiaries selected in the year 2074/075 are included in the program.

08 –      HoR meeting postponed

Kathmandu, March 4: The meeting of the House of Representatives scheduled for 11.00am today has been put off.

Issuing a notice, Secretary-General of the Federal Parliament Padma Prasad Pandeya stated that the meeting was postponed due to special reason.

“This notice has been published to inform that the Speaker has determined the next meeting of the House of Representatives for 11.00 am on Thursday, March 7, as per the Rule 6 (3) of the House of Representatives Regulations, 2079,” reads the notice.

09-       ‘Communist convergence moves ahead with course correction in

Nepali politics’

Kathmandu, March 4: CPN (Maoist Centre) Secretary Devendra Paudel has claimed that a new alliance has been formed with the goal of making a ‘course correction’ in Nepal’s politics and taking it towards leftist convergence.

Talking to media persons on conclusion of the Maoist Centre office-bearers’ meeting held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar today, he said, “It is the desire of the Nepali people to see communist parties becoming united.

            This step has been taken to preempt the situation in which communists are weakened.”According to him, the meeting discussed on moving ahead by correcting the past mistakes and weaknesses. “That time is necessary sometimes to make a ‘break through’. If there is obstacle in the political journey, a new chapter starts. This is not a new topic. There was a little break in the past, it (the new alliance) is a continuation from the past itself,” he added.

The Maoist Centre Secretary said that the Socialist Front Nepal will also be continued with the formation of a new alliance together with the CPN (UML).

“The leading leaders of the rest of the parties in the Front are also communists. We will move ahead taking all the parties in the Front along,” leader Paudel said.

10-       Newly-elected members of National Assembly take oath

Kathmandu, March 4: The newly-elected 19 members of the National Assembly have taken oath of office and secrecy today.

The Assembly Vice Chairperson Urmila Aryal administered the oath to them amid a ceremony the Federal Parliament Secretariat organized at the Parliament Building at local New Baneshwar.

On the occasion, Vice Chair Aryal presented the National Assembly insignia to the new members while the Secretariat employees handed them study materials.

Election was held for the 19 National Assembly Member posts on January 25. Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha was also present on the occasion.

11-       NEPSE suspends trading after 6 percent surge 

Kathmandu, March 4: The share trading has been suspended for today after the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index surged by 6 percent. The NEPSE benchmark index had increased by 4 percent immediately after trading opened in the share market today.

According to Nepal Stock Exchange Limited, trading was shut for 20 minutes first time following an upswing of the NEPSE index by 4 percent. It was suspended for 40 minutes second time today after the index witnessed an uptick of 5 percent.

Today’s trading was suspended following an increase in NEPSE index by 6 percent again, NEPSE spokesperson Murahari Parajuli said. 

The NEPSE index climbed by 117.70 points and reached 2078 points in today’s trading.

The share price of five various companies has seen a positive circuit. Nine hundred thirty-four thousand nine hundred and nineteen units of shares of 237 companies were traded in the share market today with a total turnover of Rs 375 million 209 thousand and 978.

The share prices of 230 companies climbed while that of only two companies slumped in the share trading today.

12-       National Assembly meeting postponed

Kathmandu, March 4: The meeting of the National Assembly scheduled for today has been postponed. The meeting set to convene at 1.17 pm today has been postponed due to special reason, according to the Federal Parliament Secretariat.

The upper house of the Federal Parliament will next meet at 1.17 pm on March 7, Thursday.

13-       Change is needed in the country, says UML Chair Oli

Kathmandu, March 4: CPN (UML) Chair KP Sharma Oli has said change is needed in the country for its development and prosperity.

Addressing a programme organised on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT) here today, former Prime Minister Oli said the situation in the country was fast changing. He stressed on the need of a change in the country for ending the status-quo and heading towards forward-looking direction.

“The country will see some positive change, albeit partly, compared to the present messy situation. Whatever change is there, we will not forsake the ‘Mission-2084’. Our campaign of getting the UML elected as a decisive national force from the general election to be held in 2084 BS and working in an expeditious manner for the nation’s development and prosperity would be continued,” asserted UML Chair Oli.

He stressed on the need of increasing employment through modernization of agriculture and extensive development of the industrial sector. Chair Oli directed the GEFONT leaders and workers to carry out works being focussed on promoting the interests of labourers and the poor as well as the welfare of the entire society.

He urged GEFONT to make policy and legal provisions and implement them so that the labourers will not have to resort to strikes and closures as well as to increase the employment, mobilizing the youths towards entrepreneurship.

14-       NC Central Work Execution Committee to meet tomorrow

Kathmandu, March 4: The Nepali Congress (NC) Central Work Execution Committee is to hold its meeting tomorrow. The meeting will take place at 3.00pm at the private residence of party president and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at local Budhanilkantha.

NC Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Poudel said the meeting will hold discussions on contemporary political topics. The office-bearers and members of the Committee have been urged to attend the meeting.

15-       Government to be reconstituted, new ministers to be sworn in today

Kathmandu, March 4: The present government headed by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is to be reconstituted today.

New ministers are scheduled to be sworn in today on the recommendation of the Prime Minister, said Kiran Pokharel, the Press Advisor of the President. According to Pokharel, the new ministers will be administered oath of office and secrecy at 5.00pm today at the President Office, Shital Niwas.

Those taking oath of minister today include Dol Prasad Aryal of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, Hit Bahadur Tamang of the CPN (Maoist Centre) and Padam Giri of the CPN (UML), it is stated. However, their ministerial portfolio has not been determined.

16 –      Trekking route to Pathibhara from Mayam

Taplejung, March 4: A two-kilometer trekking route has been constructed to reach the famous Pathibhara Temple through Mayam in Fungling Municipality-10.

The trekking route has been constructed by using stone slabs from Chuchche Dhunga to Dhahelo in Mayam. The construction work was made possible with financial investment of Pathibhara Area Development Committee, Chairperson of Consumer Committee Kumar Lecharbo said that 2,172 meters of footpath has been constructed at the cost of Rs. 2.5 million allocated by the PADC. Through 2,500 meters had been technically estimated an additional 122 meters was constructed. The 122 meters of footpath was constructed by the consumer committee with voluntary labor from the local level.

According to Indra Lechharbo, the secretary of the consumer committee, the locals of Furumbo in Fungling municipality, Paktanglung Rural Municipality and Mikwakhola Rural Municipality using this trekking route to reach the Pathibhara temple.

The stone-paved route with a width of 1.20 centimeters is expected to facilitate the mobility of the locals.

17-       Vehicular movement at Daunne area still not in operation

            Madhyabindu (Nawalparasi), March 4: Vehicular movement which was disrupted at Daunne area in Nawalparasi (Bardhaghat Susta East) from Sunday evening has not yet come into a full-fledged operation.

            The road section was obstructed after rainfall occurred on Sunday evening washed away mud in the area where road up-gradation work was underway.

            Inspector at the District Police Office, Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East), Sajan Kumar Sharma told RSS that problem has surfaced in vehicular movement due to slippery road.

            Hundreds of passengers and vehicles have been stranded following road disruption. The under-construction Narayangadh-Butwal road section has now turned muddy due to rainfall.

18-       Nepal defeats Bhutan in SAFF U16 Women’s Championship

            Kathmandu, March 4: Nepal has defeated Bhutan 3-0 in the SAFF U-6 Women Championship Football Tournament.

            In the match played at the Satdobato-based ANFA Complex in Kathmandu today Nepal outshined Bhutan.

            Pooja Giri, Bhumika Budhathoki and Gyansu Dolma netted one goal each to secure Nepal’s win.

            Nepal has secured the first win in the tournament. Nepal played draw with Bangladesh 2-2 in its first match. With this, Nepal has scored three points.

            Nepal will take on India on March 7.

19-       Newly appointed ministers sworn in

            Kathmandu, March 4: President Ramchandra Paudel has administered oath of the office and secrecy to three newly appointed ministers. 

            At a special programme organised at the Sheetal Niwas today, President Paudel, in accordance with Article 80 of the Constitution, administered oath of the office and secrecy to the newly appointed ministers. The three ministers were appointed at the recommendation of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ in accordance with Article 76 (9) of the Constitution. 

            Padam Giri from the CPN (UML), Hit Bahadur Tamang from the CPN (Maoist Centre) and Dol Prasad Aryal from the Rastriya Swatantra Party took the oath of office and secrecy. All the newly appointed ministers now are in the status of without portfolio until designation of the responsibility.

            As per formation of the cabinet and allocation of responsibilities today at the recommendation of the Prime Minister, PM Dahal has taken the berths of all the ministries, including Finance Ministry, Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply, Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Ministry of Water Supply, Home Ministry, Foreign Ministry, Ministry of Land Management, Cooperative and Poverty Alleviation.

            Present on the occasion were Vice-President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, Chief Justice Bishwombhar Shrestha, among others.

20-       Indian tourist dies of altitude sickness

            Myagdi, March 4: An Indian tourist died of altitude sickness in Mustang on Monday. Bhupendra Bhai Patel, 57, of Gujarat, India succumbed to altitude sickness at Ranipauwa of Baragung Muktichhetra rural municipality-1, according to Deputy Superintendent at Mustang Police Bhoj Raj Pandey.

            Patel had suffered from altitude sickness while he was on the way to Muktinath. The police took him to Jomsom Hospital for treatment.

            Doctors pronounced Patel death at the hospital in the meantime.Patel along with friends and relatives had come to visit Muktinath. A team led by Police Inspector Milan BK had rescued Patel and brought him to hospital.

            Meanwhile, area surrounding to Muktinath has been witnessing snowfall from Saturday. Normal life has been affected due to chilling cold following snowfall.

21-       Former President lays emphasis on ensuring women rights

            Chhinchu (Surkhet), March 4: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has stressed the need for women across the country to exert efforts in unison to ensure women rights.

            In her address to the Karnali province level women conference at Birendranagar, former President Bhandari laid emphasis on continuing efforts for the protection of human rights.

            She underlined the need to bring noticeable reforms in the areas of women rights and empowerment in Nepal.

            The former President shared that remarkable progress has been made in the area of women rights as a result of awareness campaigns and social sensitization in the areas of social justice, women rights and gender rights.

            The reinstated House of Representative in 2063 BS had fully ensured women rights by introducing four bills related to women rights.

            “Women should be continually engaged in obtaining economic, social and cultural rights. The women should be provided with opportunities to equally participate in policy-making at three tiers of the governments”, she noted.

22-       PM Dahal, Chair Nepal meet

            Kathmandu, March 4: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Chairperson of the CPN (Unified Socialist), Madhav Kumar Nepal, held a meeting this evening.

            PM Dahal had reached leader Nepal’s residence in Koteshwor to wish for Nepal a good health. The Prime Minister was accompanied by senior Vice-Chairperson and Deputy Prime Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha, said PM Dahal’s Press Advisor Govinda Acharya.

            Former Prime Minister Nepal had taken ill and was taking rest at home for the past few days.

23-       Ruling coalition partners reach eight-point deal

            Kathmandu, March 4: Four political parties of the newly formed ruling coalition have reached an eight-point deal.

            The CPN-UML, CPN (Maoist Centre), Rastriya Swanatra Party and Janata Samajbadi Party reached the eight-point agreement in regard to collaboration for the new government.

            The parties have agreed to form a new government under the leadership of CPN (Maoist Centre)’s Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ with the participation of four political parties realizing the need of collaboration among the forces having common thinking on good governance, development, social justice and prosperity.

            The four parties also agreed to support CPN (Maoist Centre)’s candidate to the post of National Assembly chairperson and CPN-UML’s candidate to the post of NA vice-chairperson.

            Likewise, the parties participating in the government have reached an agreement to allocate ministries on consensus.

            The features of the ministries will be taken into consideration while allocating the ministerial portfolios and necessary dialogue will be initiated to other political parties to bring them to the new coalition government formation process.

            The four parties have agreed to finalize bill related to transitional justice, peace process as well as other issues related to it at the earliest on consensus in order to maintain sustainable peace in the country. 

            Similarly, an understanding was reached among collation parties to make all-tier governments effective by formulating laws related to federalism implementation as well as to prepare a common minimum programme among the parties in the government to guide the government’s policy and programme.

            A new coalition government would be formed reshuffling the incumbent government for the implementation of the agreement.

            The four parties have also agreed to move ahead towards political stability to strengthen national sovereignty, independence, and geographical integrity and for socialism-oriented socio-economic development.

            CPN (UML) Chairperson KP Sharma Oli, CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Chairperson of Rastriya Swatantra Party Rabi Lamichhane and Chairperson of Janata Samajbadi Party, Upendra Yadav, have signed the eight-point agreement.

24-       JSP Nepal decides to join govt.

            Kathmandu, March 4: Janata Samawadi Party Nepal is also joining the new coalition government.

            A meeting of the Central Execution Committee of the party held on Monday decided to join the federal government, said chief of party’s publicity and publication department, Purna Basnet.

            He shared that next meeting would be held on Tuesday at Balkumari-based party office to finalize the names of the ministers joining the government from the party.
