Kanchanpur, Aug 7: The Kaluwapur market area in Shuklaphanta municipality-11, Kanchanpur, has been waterlogged due to inadequate drainage system. The situation has worsened over the past two years, primarily due to unsystematic urbanization and encroachments on the sewage system, it is said.

Locals complained the construction of houses built encroached upon the sewage lines connected to the East-West Highway, led to frequent waterlogging issues even with minimal rainfall. Locals are now urging authorities to address these issues urgently.

Ganesh Bahadur Ayer, a local resident, said people are busy in blaming and counter-blaming each other over the situation when an urgent action is needed to solve the problem. He also called for the punishment of those responsible for encroaching on the sewage lines.

Social worker Nawaraj Pant expressed concern about the impact of the problem on the community, stating that passengers, students, and the general public are facing significant inconvenience. He warned of potential health risks, including waterborne diseases from polluted water released from toilets.

Now public toilets have remained unused due to the disrupted sewage system.

The stagnant water has started to seep into shops and homes, escalating the problem.

Deputy Mayor Kalpana Pant stated that efforts are underway to find a solution to the issue. Discussions are ongoing about removing structures that encroach on road areas, and works are underway to level road section that fall in relative lower positions.
