Lalitpur, Sept 1: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung has said that the implementation of the ‘5G network’ is pivotal to maximize benefits of information technology.
In a discussion organized by Nepal Telecom (NTC) regarding the implementation of the annual policy and programme for the fiscal year 2082/83 BS, Minister Gurung urged for the expansion of 4G network access to every household immediately.
He further instructed Nepal Telecom to manage the 5G network.
Minster Gurung stated that the expansion of NTC’s network would play a significant role in achieving the government’s digital framework (DNF) objectives, expanding digital governance, making public services faster and more efficient, and establishing good governance.
Minister Gurung mentioned that he had assured Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli this year to initiate the 5G network and urged Nepal Telecom to focus on its preparations. The “5G networks have already been utilized in South Asia, while we have lagged quite behind,” he said, adding, “An agreement has already been made between the Prime Minister and myself regarding the implementation of the 5G network.”
Minister Gurung suggested the Nepal Telecom to adopt sensitivity in its performance as an essential and important service provider.
He also urged everyone to responsibly undertake their duties to realize the targets of the action plan for the current fiscal year.
Secretary at the Ministry Radhika Aryal emphasized that Nepal Telecom should work to achieve 100% of its targets.
During the event, directors from all seven provinces of NTC expressed their commitment to achieving the targets of their respective future action plans.
