Prabha and Himal to participate in World Para Athletics

Kathmandu, Sept 24: Two Nepali athletes will compete in the World Para Athletics Championship. The championship to begin next day runs until October 5 in India.    

In men’s category, Himal Aryal will compete in the F-55 category shot put while in women’s category, Prabha Angdembe will compete in the T-47 category long jump.    

President of the Para Athletics Association of Nepal, Omnath Shivakoti, and the Secretary Sangbu Bhote are in the managerial team. While wishing success to the team, Member Secretary of the National Sports Council, Tanklal Ghising, bid farewell to them at a programme held here on Wednesday.    

The team departs for India tomorrow while President Shivakoti will leave after some days.

17-       Nepal’s Permanent Representative to UN attending 80th UNGA

Kathmandu, Sept 24: Nepal’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Lok Bahadur Thapa, is representing the government in the 80th UN General Assembly, New York.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Permanent Representative Thapa will be attending the UNGA citing impossibility for a high-level delegation from the government of Nepal owing to adverse situation in the country.

The panel discussion of the 80th UNGA has begun at the UN Headquarters, New York, from September 23.

Meanwhile, the Ministry asked Nepali Ambassadors in the concerned countries about their official information if they have stopped issuance of visit visa for the Nepalis in light of unfolding situation in Nepal.

Ministry Spokesperson Lok Bahadur Poudel Chhetri shared that the Ministry in presence of concerned officials held a discussion on how the visit visa could be systematized over the questions raised on Nepalis’ travel to various countries on visit visa.

18-       Two girls go missing in landslide

Sindhupalchok, Sept 24: Two girls have gone missing in a landslide occurred at Balephi Dhade of Balephi rural municipality-1 in the district on Wednesday.

Phul Maya Lama, 17, and her 5-year-old sister Man Maya Lama disappeared in the landslide while they were heading to their maternal uncle’s home at Golchhe of Jugal rural municipality-2. They are from Phulping of Chautara Sangachokgadhi municipality-2, according to Rameshwor Karki, Deputy Superintendent of Police at District Police Office. The landslide occurred at 4:45pm.

A 10-member police team led by Police Inspector Gajendra Rawat has been mobilized for the search of the missing girls, the police added.

19-       NC withdraws support to Madhes province govt

Janakpur, Sept 24: The Nepali Congress has withdrawn its support to Madhes province government.

Issuing a press release, the Office of the Province Chief stated, “NC withdrew its support to Madhes province government in accordance with Article 168 (2) of the Constitution.”

The press statement was released by Satrudhan Yadav, Officiating Chief at Office of the Province Chief.

20-       Cooperative fraud escaped from Nakkhu jail arrested

Kathmandu, Sept 24: Police have arrested Kedar Nath Sharma, the then proprietor of Shiva Shikhar Multi-Purpose Cooperative of, Bhaktapur, on Wednesday.

He is the inmate put in Nakkhu jail on charge of a cooperative fraud. Sharma had escaped from the Nakkhu jail during Gen-Z protest.

A team from Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police nabbed Sharma from Sanepa, Lalitpur and handed him over to the concerned jail administration, said Officiating Spokesperson of CIB, Dharma Raj Bhandari.

According to Jail Management Department, around 7,000 inmates are still on the loose.

21-       Maoist Centre mulls central committee dissolution for special

convention

Kathmandu, Sept 24: The CPN (Maoist Centre) has proposed dissolution of its central committee and a special convention. The party also proposed the convention organizing committee under the coordination of party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’. 

The standing committee meeting of the party held at the party headquarters, Parisdadanda on Wednesday took a decision to this end.

Party Vice-Chairman and spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota informed that the decision was taken to maintain unity within the party and in light of the current circumstances developed in the country. The party has called the CC meeting on Thursday to finalize decision on the proposal.

Similarly, the party is for holding dialogue and consensus with democratic and progressive forces, unifying with the socialist front, and taking initiative to build a broader alliance. “The situation is changing rapidly. In such circumstances, the conclusion of the meeting is the need of transformative forces for progression,” Sapkota said.

22 –      Finance Minister Khanal vows economic development

Biratnagar, Sept 24: Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal has vowed economic development and protection of national interest. Minister Khanal said it during a programme organized here on Wednesday. “Nation’s interest is the major priority,” he reiterated.

The Minister sought cooperation from private sector for reducing corruption. He shared the government’s decision to lay off the employees appointed as advisors and personal secretaries in a bid to maintain austerity.

In his view, the private sector not only earns profit but also devotes to long term change.

On the occasion, FNCCI President Chandra Dhakal said a scientific evaluation of the goods (imports and exports) was imperative for fair trade. He expressed belief that Finance Minister would be active to make the national economy dynamic.

Dhakal further suggested the Minister that he took initiative to enforce the suggestions furnished by the high level economic reform commission which he had chaired earlier.

On the occasion, the business persons in Biratnagar city handed over a written suggestion to Minister Khanal.

23-       Health Ministry revives its mechanisms

Kathmandu, Sept 24: The Ministry of Health and Population, one of the worst hit public institutions during the Gen-Z protest, has informed that it revived all of its mechanisms.

Issuing a press release on Wednesday, Ministry Spokesperson Dr Prakash Budhathoki, said all functional set ups of the ministry were restored in order to further strengthen transparency and accountability in the delivery of health service.

Similarly, the Ministry has urged one and all to call at a hotline number in case they face obstacles in seeking service from the ministry and its subordinate bodies. For this, it managed the hotline numbers 1115, Viber and Whatsapp number 9851330592 and email info@mohp.gov.np.

Likewise, one can make a phone call at Spokesperson’s number 9851255838 and at Information Officer’s number 9851363756 if any problem surfaces.

Spokesperson Budhathoki mentioned the Ministry has been working from Nepal Health Research Council after its buildings was completely damaged during Gen-Z protest.

24 –      Envoy Thompson discusses enforcement of US-funded projects with Minister Ghising

Kathmandu, Sept 24: US Ambassador to Nepal, Dean R Thompson, paid a courtesy call on Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Kulman Ghising, and discussed the implementation status of projects being constructed with US assistance in Nepal.

Also featured during the meeting held on Wednesday were Nepal-US cooperation and the reconstruction of public structures damaged during the Gen-Z protests in Nepal. The US Ambassador congratulated the newly appointed Minister Ghising on behalf of the United States and wished him a successful tenure.

Minister Ghising informed that the main priorities of the current government are – reconstructing the structures damaged in the protest, holding election to House of Representatives, and maintaining good governance.

On the occasion, Ambassador Thompson committed to continuing US assistance to Nepal.

25 –      Preparation forwarded to install free WiFi service as per Info

Minister’s directive

Kathmandu, Sept 24: Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has forwarded preparation to install free WiFi services in the public places of various 10 cities, including Kathmandu Valley, across the country. NTA’s action comes following the direction of Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagdish Kharel.

Minister Kharel had directed the Ministry officials to set up free WiFi services in the public places of 10 cities when he assumed office.

NTA informed that it would be able to manage this essential communication service in the Kathmandu Valley within two months, while it will take five months in other cities. The authority launched discussion on it on Wednesday.

Assistant spokesperson at NTA, Pradip Paudel, informed that necessary strategy was being prepared to materialize the Minister’s direction within the slated time. The suggestions and inputs from the internet service providers would be paid heed to take ahead the action, he added.

Selection of public spots, data security, and time limit for free WiFI were major points of discussion. The budget for the scheme has already been approved.The implementation modality will be forwarded accordingly.

26 –      PM Karki plans to address nation on Thursday evening

Kathmandu, Sept 24: Prime Minister Sushila Karki is scheduled to address the nation next day, Thursday evening. According to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, a Cabinet meeting will be held at 4:00 PM on Thursday which follows PM Karki’s address to the nation at 6:00 PM the same day.

This will be her first address to the nation after she assumed office as the Head of the interim government backed by Gen-Z people.

On September 12, former Chief Justice Karki was appointed the Prime Minister following in light of Gen-Z protests occurred on September 8 and 9.

The interim government led by Karki had dissolved the House of Representatives and announced elections on March 5 next year.

27 – General Secretary Sharma underscores political transformation as per Gen-Z spirit

Jhapa, Sept 24: Nepali Congress General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma has reiterated the urgency of political transformation as per the sentiment of Gen-Z.

After inspecting party offices of Nepali Congress and the CPN (UML) in the district that were torched and destroyed during Gen-Z protest on September 9, he claimed that arson and vandalism on public properties, including Singha Durbar complex and private property across the country was against the demand and aspiration of Gen-Z demonstration.  

Similarly, former General Secretary Krishna Sitaula argued political parties should collaborate around democratic principles by maintaining unity within parties in the current situation of the country. He also expressed the belief that mastermind and those involved in the incident of looting, violence and arson across the country against the Gen-Z demand would be exposed.

Likewise, Prem Giri of CPN (UML) and former lawmaker Hari Charan Shiwakoti enquired the NC leaders about party’s further strategy and programmes.
