‘Govt. should run Devkota Museum’

Kathmandu, Oct 19: The speakers at a literary programme have stressed that the government should run the Mahakavi Laxmi Prasad Devkota Museum.

At a programme organized by Nepal Academy at the Museum in Maitidevi today on the occasion of the 117th birth anniversary of Mahakavi Devkota, Chancellor of Nepal Academy Bhupal Rai said the fame of the Museum will increase if it were handled by the Ministry of Culture.

Chancellor Rai argued that more people are yet to be informed about the Devkota Museum though it was started on the day of Laxmi Jayanti in 2079 BS.

Rai was of the view that the Museum should be run with the true spirit and should be developed accordingly and shared that there were some challenges to run the Museum as there are few people in Nepal with cultural nuance to understand the museum.

On the occasion, son of Mahakavi Devkota Prof Dr Padma Prasad said that the myths used in Devkota’s poems carry spiritual senses adding that Devkota’s imaginative power, use of language and farsightedness were extraordinary.

Dr Balkrishna Adhikari presented a concept paper on Mahakavi Devkota, while critic Sudha Mainali commended on the concept paper. During the event, academician Baba Basnet, poets Prava Bhattarai, Manoj Neupane, Samiran Chalise, Sanu Gulmeli, Shova Dulal, Mission Adhikari, Usha Sherchan and others recited poems, gazals, songs and other literary creations. —
