Mahara formally removed from the post of House Speaker

Kathmandu, Oct 2 : The Secretariat of the House of Representatives today published a notice regarding the resignation of Krishna Bahadur Mahara from the post of House Speaker.

According to Parliament’s Operation Rules 2075 BS, if the Secretariat publishes a notice with the recommendation from Deputy House Speaker, the Speaker’s post will vacant.

Mahara on Tuesday resigned from the post of House Speaker after facing charges of sexual assault and raping against his own staff. Nepal Police have already started collecting evidences from the site.

The Deputy Speaker will read a notice regarding Mahara’s resignation in the House. If the House is not running, the notice from Deputy Speaker will be the final decision.

The ruling senior leaders of Nepal Communist Party (NCP), including Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Chairman Puspa Kamal Dahal Prachanda have suggested Mahara to quit from his post and Member of Parliament also. He was elected from Dang district.

Meanwhile, the Secretariat have also removed Mahara’s photo and details from their website.
