Nepali people eagerly waiting to welcome Chinese President Xi

            Kathmandu, Oct 12 :   Different walks of peoples and high level political leaders are eagerly waiting to welcome the President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping who is arriving in Kathmandu this afternoon for his two day state visit to Nepal.

            Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has shared that the visit would be historic as it would be fruitful to materialize Nepal’s campaign of Prosperous Nepal: Happy Nepali. He further has shared that Nepal has made grand preparations to welcome President Xi. 

            Similarly, former Finance Minister Surendra Pandey has said that the visit would be significant even to forge agreement to enhance national economy.

            According to spokesperson at the Ministry of Home Affairs Ram Krishna Subedi, the security has been strengthened in view of President Xi’s visit. 

            According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), during the visit, President Xi will meet with President Bidya Devi Bhandari who will host a banquet in honour of her Chinese counterpart and visiting dignitary.

            The Chinese President Xi will hold delegation-level talks with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.  Different agreements and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed after the talks.

            It is stated that the senior leaders of Nepal including former Prime Ministers will call on President Xi during his sojourn in Kathmandu. The visit is considered to be highly significant and historic to further harmonize Sino-Nepal relations to a new height.              President Xi is visiting to Nepal following on the heels of his unofficial summit with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday and Friday.

Top agenda of the meeting

  1. Preparation of the detailed project report (DPR) of the Kerung-Kathmandu railway.
  2. Revival of the 1,200 MW Budhi Gandaki Hydroelectricity Project.
  3. Establishment of Madan Bhandari Science and Technology University in Makawanpur.
  4. Upgrading of the Araniko Highway.
  5. Construction of cross-border 400kV transmission line.
  6. Upgrading the Koshi, Karnali and Gandaki corridors linking north-south that will link the Indian and Chinese borders.
  7. Upgrading the Kimathanka and Korala border points, and expanding the Kodari Highway.
