Madhav Nepal picked as Chairman for NCP

KATHMANDU, Dec 22: Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Dahal-Nepal faction has unanimously picked party leader Madhav Kumar Nepal as the party chairman.

A central committee meeting of the party presided over by Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ picked former Prime Minister Nepal as the party chairman.

Emerging from the meeting, NCP Spokesperson Narayankaji Shrestha said that Chairman KP Sharma Oli was relieved of his post after taking disciplinary action as per the party’s interim statute concluding that he made serious violation of the party discipline.

Similarly, the meeting unanimously approved the proposal of the party standing committee to nominate former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara as the standing committee member.

Furthermore, the central committee meeting also withdrew the disciplinary action taken against party’s Kailali District Committee Chairman Dirgha Sodari and restored him in his prior position, according to Shrestha.

The meeting also approved different proposals while appealing to the party cadres for the cause of party unity.

The meeting also decided to reject the announcement of the House of Representative dissolution made by the President on the recommendation of Prime Minister Oli.

Similarly, the meeting also asked to immediately summon the parliament meeting and run the regular business of the parliament. The next meeting of the central committee will hold at 11:30 am on Thursday.

According to Spokesperson Shrestha, altogether 315 central committee members were present in today’s meeting out of 441 central committee members of the Nepal Communist Party.
