‘Jumli Maarsi’ rice branded as ‘Nepal Food’

KATHMANDU: The Food Management and Trading Company Limited has branded ‘Jumli Maarsi’ rice of Jumla. The company has started selling Maarsi rice in Kathmandu from Thursday under the brand name ‘Nepal Food’.

The company has purchased 270 quintals of Maarsi rice from Surkhet in the first phase and started selling from five sales counters in Kathmandu Valley – Thapathali, Ramshahpath, Nakkhu, Lagankhel and Suryabinayak

Maarsi rice have been sold 268 kg within three days, said Sharmila Neupane, information officer of the company. According to her, 93 kg of rice was sold on Thursday, 144 kg on Friday and 131 kg on Sunday. She said the company was expected to sell Maarsi rice, like other rice it had previously sold.

The company has sold Maarsi rice at Rs 225 per kg. The company has started the process of purchasing Jumla’s Maarsi paddy. The Paddy Procurement Primary Committee has fixed Rs 102.50 per kg for rice and Rs 162.50 per kg for rice in Jumla.

To determine the price of paddy, the company has formed a committee under the coordination of the Chief District Officer of the concerned districts with the representatives of the Agriculture Gyan Center and the local farmers’ coordination committee.
