Govt to provide free treatment to quake injured people

Kathmandu, Nov 4: Minister for Health and Population, Mohan Bahadur Basnet, has said government would provide free treatment to those injured in the earthquake that took toll on Jajarkot and Rukum Paschim districts.

The teams of health and medical workers along with medicine were mobilized to the quake affected places, Minister Basnet said, adding that additional team is also ready for further treatment.

“Government provides free treatment to the quake injured ones. If the treatment is not possible at local levels and in district hospitals, the injured people would be airlifted to modern hospitals,” Minister Basnet vowed.

He further informed that the ministry was discussing with experts how the treatment could be ensured effectively during the crisis.


Bodies of three more Nepali students killed in Israel brought to Kathmandu

Kathmandu, Nov 4: Bodies of three more Nepali students killed in the attack by Hamas in Israel arrived in Nepal lately. Ten Nepali students were killed in the attack. 

The bodies of Ananda Sah from Sapahi-6, Dhanusha; Rajesh Kumar Swornakar from Madhuwan-1, Sunsari; and Rajan Phulara from Pachnali-3, Doti were brought from Fly Dubai aircraft, said Joint-Secretary at the Foreign Ministry, Shard Raj Aran.

The body of Phulara arrived on Friday afternoon, Swornakar’s on Friday night and Sah’s this morning, he added.

According to the Foreign Ministry, ten Nepali students were killed in the attack by Hamas in Israel on October 7 and bodies of eight students have been brought so far. 

The lifeless bodies of Sah and Swonakar would be transported to their respective districts by the Nepali Army chopper today itself, shared Aran.

The Nepali students had gone to Israel from Sudurpaschim University under the ‘Learn and Earn’ programme launched by Israeli government in agriculture sector. The bodies of Padam Thapa from Lamikhal-8, Doti and Prabesh Bhandari from Sarada-3, Salyan are yet to be brought.

Another Nepali student Bipin Joshi from Bhimdutta-3, Kanchanpur is still out of contact. After the attack by Hamas in Israel, a team comprising Foreign Minister Narayan Prakash Saud had rescued 254 students from Israel and brought them home.

Karnali Province govt engages with rescue operation via air, land routes

Surkhet, Nov 4: Karnali Province government has been engaging with rescue of those injured in earthquake occurred last night.

According to Minister for Internal Affairs and Law and Spokesperson of Karnali Province government, Krishna Bahadur GC, the province government was carrying out rescue operation by air and land routes. 

“Rescue operation is underway in Jajarkot and Rukum Paschim districts”, he informed. 

Minister GC further said a medical team is standby to fly towards earthquake-hit districts soon after clear visibility, and preparation is being made for Chief Minister’s visit to affected places via land route.

Similarly, ferrying of rescue and relief materials from Surkhet, Nepalgunj and Dang is underway. A meeting of the Province Disaster Management Council concluded lately, while the meeting of the Council of Ministers of Karnali Province is scheduled to take place after a while, mentioned Minister GC. 

Seven injured people brought to Bheri Hospital from Jajarkot

Janaki (Banke), Nov 4: Seven quake-injured people have been brought to Bheri Hospital, Nepalgunj from Jajarkot.

Chief District Officer of Banke, Shravan Kumar Pokhrel, shared the information that the injured people were brought to Nepalgunj early morning- 3:00am.

Medical Superintendent Dr Pavan Jung Rayamajhi confirmed that seven quake survivors were receiving treatment in the hospital.

Similarly, ten quake-injured people are being brought to Ranjha by helicopter soon.

CDO Pokhrel said even the private hospitals were readied for the treatment. A total of 105 beds were readied for the treatment at Bheri Hospital, Army Hospital, and Police Hospital.

Moreover, ambulances have been kept standby at Ranjha airport and Nepal Army helipad. The health facilities also reported that there was no shortage of blood either.

The earthquake measuring 6.4 in Richter scale with its epicenter at Ramidanda, Jajarkot jolted the district and vicinity at 11:47pm Friday.

The latest update recorded the death of 133 persons and injury of 185 others in the disaster. Hundreds of houses are flattened by the tremor.

Jajarkot earthquake: 133 die, 185 get injury

Kathmandu, Nov 4:  The death toll in the Jajarkot earthquake has reached 133. The fatalities are from Jajarkot and Rukum Paschim districts combined.

Similarly, 185 people are reported injured in the disaster.

Information to this was shared by the Deputy Inspector General of the Armed Police Force, Shailendra Thapa. He informed that fatalities reached 95 in Jajarkot and 38 in Rukum Paschim.

Efforts are ongoing to ferry the injured ones to different cities including Nepalgunj for treatment. They are being airlifted by Nepal Army helicopters.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ reached the quake-affected areas early morning. He reached there with doctors’ team and relief materials.

The staffs of Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force have been engaging with the rescue operation and relief distribution. More than 1,500 security persons have been mobilized for it.

Similarly, Nepal Army has used five helicopters and a plane for the rescue operation and relief distribution in the quake-hit areas.

Nepal Army Spokesperson Brigadier General Krishna Prasad Bhandari informed that 33 injured ones from Jajarkot and Rukum Paschim districts were airlifted to Nepalgunj by Nepal Army helicopters. For the rescue and relief distribution, even the teams of medicos are being sent.

Earthquake: two local levels hit hard in Rukum Paschim

Rukum, Nov 4: Rukum Paschim district has witnessed huge loss of lives and physical properties due to earthquake occurred last night.

The earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale with its epicenter in Jajarkot occurred Friday night.

In Rukum Paschim, two local levels are hit hard with the disaster. Death of 27 people from Aathbiskot Municipality and Sanibheri Rural Municipality, which are close to Jajarkot district, is confirmed so far, said Mayor of Aathbiskot Municipality, Rabi KC.

“Eighteen people died in Aathbiskot Municipality and nine in Sanibheri Rural Municipality”, he mentioned. The earthquake caused huge destruction at ward no 14 of Aathbiskot Municipality and ward no 4 of Sanibheri Rural Municipality, shared Mayor KC.

Operation for the rescue and treatment of quake injured and collection of details on losses of lives and physical properties are underway.

Ward Chair of Aathbiskot Municipality-14, Hukum Pun, said problems was surfaced to take the injured to hospitals due to road obstruction following the earthquake. “Ward no 14 witnessed huge loss. We started rescue operation from the very night,” he mentioned. 

Similarly, Information Officer at the District Police Office, Dharmendra Khadka, said further details of the loss are being collected.

The injured are receiving treatment at District Hospital, Salle, Chaurjahari Mission Hospital and Aathbiskot Municipal Hospital, said police, adding that road obstruction due to earthquake has resumed. Ten injured ones have now been airlifted to Nepalgunj from District Hospital, Salle.

Likewise, three injured ones have been airlifted to Surkhet from Aathbiskot Municipal Hospital from Nepal Army chopper. Some houses in Chaurjahari and Musikot Municipalities, and Tribeni and Bafikot Rural Municipalities have received damages.

Death toll reaches 137: Karnali Province govt

Karnali, Nov 4: The death toll in the Jajarkot earthquake has reached 137. The facilities combine the numbers from Jajarkot and Rukum Paschim districts which are hit hard in the disaster.

Minister for Law and Spokesperson of the Karnali Province government, Krishna Bahadur GC, informed that 99 people lost lives in Jajarkot. Among them, 69 are women and 30 men. Similarly, fatalities in Rukum Paschim reached 38- 19 male and female each.

The number of people injured in the disasters are- 81 in Jajarkot, 72 in Rukum Paschim, three each in Jumla and Dailekh and one in Salyan.

Those injured in the disaster are receiving treatment in the health facilities of Jajarkot, Rukum Paschim and Banke districts. However, detailed information is being collected.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ along with ministers and leaders reached the earthquake-hit areas and met with the disaster survivors.

President Paudel urges govt to speed up rescue, relief and treatment to quake victims

Kathmandu, Nov 4: President Ramchandra Paudel has urged the government to speed up the works on rescue and relief to earthquake survivors and treatment to the injured ones.

Enquiring Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha about the loss of lives and physical property caused by the Jajarkot earthquake, President Paudel asked the government to immediately arrange rescue and relief operation and treatment to the injured ones, said President Paudel’s Press Advisor, Kiran Pokharel.

The President also reminded the government to ensure everything needed to cope up with disaster. Earlier, sharing that he was saddened by the loss of lives and physical property caused by earthquake, the President appealed to the government, all political parties, people’s representatives and commoners to engage with rescue and relief operation and treatment to the injured people with humanitarian sentiments during the crisis.

The earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale with its epicenter at Ramidanda of Barekot Rural Municipality-1 in Jajarkot occurred Friday night.

The number of the fatalities has reached 137 and is counting. The devastative tremor flattened numerous houses and structures in Jajarkot and its neighbouring district, Rukum Paschim.

Govt to provide Rs 50 million each to Jajarkot and Rukum Paschim districts

Kathmandu, Nov 4: The government has decided to provide Rs 50 million each to quake-hit Jajarkot and Rukum Paschim districts. The amount would be ensured through the central relief management fund.

A meeting held under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kani Shrestha took this decision today. Similarly, the relief distribution would be enforced via one-door system.

The immediate needs as blanket, tarpaulin sheets, and food stuffs were supplied to the quake-hit areas, while the province government and district management committees were directed to inform on time in case of further need, DPM Shrestha shared.

“Adequate workforce was mobilized from the concerned district disaster mechanisms. Search and rescue of the victims and relief distribution were also intensified with robust coordination among the federal, provincial and local governments,” DPM Shrestha informed the meeting participants.

The Road Department was asked to immediately clear the road obstruction to ease transportation, according to him.

Moreover, various teams of health and medical persons had reached the quake-hit areas along with medicines.

PM Dahal meets quake survivors, assures govt support

Rukum Paschim, Nov 4: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has reached earthquake-hit districts, Rukum Paschim and Jajarkot and met the quake survivors. He assured that government stands by them at this moment of crisis.

Prime Minister Dahal who arrived in Jajarkot and Rukum Paschim districts this morning in course of the inspection of quake-affected areas also met the injured ones receiving treatment at different hospitals of Rukum Paschim.

Prime Minister Dahal arrived in Chaurjahari Mission Hospital of Rukum Paschim after meeting the injured people undergoing treatment at District Hospital, Khalanga. He brought some injured ones to Chaurjahari from Jajarkot in a chopper he was flying by. The injured ones have been taken to Surkhet hospital from Chaurjahari.

Similarly, Dahal reached rural municipality-level hospital, Chhotebagar, District Hospital, Salle, and Aathbiskot Municipal Hospital and enquired about the health condition of the injured people.

Saying Rukum Paschim and Jajarkot districts saw huge disaster, PM Dahal urged them not to panic much. “We are sad with the loss caused by earthquake. The government will bring rescue and relief materials and other different programmes for you (quake survivors)”, mentioned PM Dahal.

The government has been carrying out activities without leaving any stone unturned in rescue operation.

            Prime Minister Dahal ‘who arrived in Jajarkot and Rukum Paschim districts this morning in course of monitoring quake-affected areas, visited injured ones undergoing treatment at different hospitals of Rukum Paschim.

            Prime Minister Dahal arrived in Chaurjahari Mission Hospital of Rukum Paschim after visiting injured people undergoing treatment at District Hospital, Khalanga. He brought some injured ones to Chaurjahari from Jajarkot in a chopper he was flying. Those injured ones have been taken to Surkhet hospital from Chaurjahari.

            He reached rural municipality-level hospital, Chhotebagar, District Hospital, Salle, and Aathbiskot Municipal Hospital and enquired about the health condition of the injured undergoing treatment there.

            On the occasion, Pm Dahal expressed commitment that the government would provide support in treatment of the injured.

            Saying Rukum Paschim and Jajarkot districts had to bear huge disaster, he urged not to panic. “We are sad from the loss caused by earthquake. The government will bring rescue, relief and other different programmes for you (quake survivours)”, mentioned PM Dahal.

PM Dahal appeals to join hands in rescue, relief and treatment to quake victims

            Taking to social site, Prime Minister Dahal appealed to all- political parties, private sector and civil society for collaboration and join hands in rescue, relief and rehabilitation of quake-affected people.

            He mentioned that he reached the earthquake hit areas to take stock of damages caused by devastating earthquake, to listen pain of victims, to rescue the injured and to provide relief to quake survivors.

Body of one more Nepali student killed in Israel brought to Kathmandu

            The body of Prabesh Bhandari of Sarada-3 in Salyan district was brought from Fly Dubai aircraft, said Joint-Secretary at the Foreign Ministry, Shard Raj Aran.

            Similarly, the body of Padam Thapa of Lamikhal-8 in Doti district would arrive till today night, he added.

NHRC appeals for rescue, free and effective treatment to quake victims

           Kathmandu, Nov 4: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has appealed to all concerned sides to rescue those injured in earthquake in Jajarkot and Rukum Paschim districts and make free and effective treatment to them.

            The NHRC urged all including the government, political parties to engage in relief and rescue operation of quake-affected people.

            A press release today by NHRC Spokesperson Tika Ram Pokharel reads, “The NHRC urges all concerned sides including government and political parties to rescue the injured ones, make arrangement of free and effective treatment and engage in rescue and relief operation.”

            It was deeply saddened by the loss of lives and physical property caused by earthquake in Jajrkot and Rukum Paschim districts Friday night, mentioned the statement.

            Extending tribute to those killed in earthquake, the NHRC extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members as well as wished the injured ones a speedy recovery. It has also started monitoring the quake-hit districts.

            A team of Karnali Province office of the NHRC has left for the quake-affected areas to monitor the human rights condition of quake-affected people today itself.
