Cybercrime cases up by six fold in last five years

      Kathmandu, March 9: In the last five years, cybercrime cases have increased six-fold.

      According to the Nepal Police Headquarters Cyber Bureau data, as many as 2,301 applications were received in the fiscal year 2076/77 BS, while 12,789 applications were recorded till March 7 of the current fiscal year.

      Similarly, 3,906 applications were lodged in the fiscal year 2077/78; 4,686 in 2078/79 and 9,013 in 2079/80, the police headquarters shared.  According to the police, a total of 12,789 applications, including 164 from boys, 242 from girls, 5,703 from women, 6,177 from men and 503 from others have been received online till March 6 of the current fiscal year.

      Superintendent of Police and spokesperson of cyber bureau, Deepak Raj Awasthi said number of cases of financial fraud has increased in the recent past among various forms of crimes such as online fraud, publishing obscene photos and videos on social media, using the names and pictures of other people and hacking websites.

      The trend of cybercrime includes putting online technology by adding people’s faces to different types of nude pictures, publishing obscene photos and videos on social media, demanding ransom by taking control of all the information, opening a profile page using other people’s names and pictures on social media, hacking the websites of government and other organizations, and online fraud.

01-       20,000 liters of milk purchased from Tarai

Makwanpur, March 9: The Hetauda Milk Distribution Project is currently collecting about 20,000 liters of milk from Tarai districts.

According to the project, out of the collected milk, 12,000 liters is sent to Biratnagar for producing powder milk and 6,000 liters to Hetauda Milk Development Board. The project has been selling 4,000 liters of milk daily to local consumers in Birgunj of Parsa, Bharatpur and Narayangadh of Chitwan and Hetauda of Makwanpur.

According to the project, milk is procured from 200 milk producer cooperatives in Sarlahi, Rautahat, Bara, Parsa of Madhes province, and Bagmati in Makwanpur. Although the farmers of the Tarai district are now producing more than 200,000 liters of milk daily the demand of local consumers in Birgunj, Narayangadh and Hetauda markets has not increased, said Rajiv Khanal, head of the project.

As a result, the project will be deploying a technical team to discuss with public representatives of Birgunj, Bharatpur and Hetauda and local consumers to increase the demand for more milk in those cities.

To consume more milk,  the project is currently producing 700 liters of curd, 900 kg of ghee, 400 kg of paneer and 500 kg of butter. It has also been making various kinds of sweets.

Information officer of the project, Krishna Bahadur Shrestha, said that since the demand for milk in the local market is less the purchase of milk has been reduced by 2000 liters daily.

The project, which is fully owned by the Government of Nepal, employs 150 people.

02-       Nepal playing friendly match against Hong Kong

Kathmandu, March 9: Nepal and Hong Kong are playing a friendly cricket match today. The match is scheduled to start at 11:15 am.

            The Nepali national cricket team is currently in Hong Kong for a triangular T20 series, also involving Papua New Guinea. The team left Kathmandu on Thursday to play the triangular series.

The triangular T20I series between Nepal, Hong Kong and Papua New Guinea is starting from this tomorrow. In the lead up to the series, Nepal is playing a friendly match with Hong Kong today.

In the triangular series, Nepal will play the first match against Hong Kong on March 10 and against Papua New Guinea on March 12. The final match of the triangular series will be held on March 13.

Led by Rohit Kumar Paudel the Nepali team includes Kushal Bhurtel, Binod Bhandari, Gulshan Jha, Sandeep Zora, Aarif Sheikh, Bivek Yadav, Rashid Khan, Karan KC, Sagar Dhakal, Pratish GC, Lokesh Bam, Akash Chand and Abinash Bohra.

03-       Weather to remain partly cloudy in Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki

Kathmandu, March 9:  The weather will remain partly cloudy in Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki Provinces today. It will be mainly clear in the remaining part of the country.

This is due to the partial influence of westerly low pressure system, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Weather Forecasting Division has said. There is possibility of light snowfall in some places in the high hills and mountain areas of Koshi and Gandaki provinces.

Later tonight, it will be partly cloudy in the hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki  and clear in the remaining areas.

Meanwhile, on Sunday there is possibility of light snowfall in some places of Gandaki, Karnali and high hilly and mountain areas of Sudurpaschim Province. Light snowfall may also take place on Monday in some area in the high hills and mountain areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali provinces, adds the Division.

04-       Earthquake recorded in Kaski

Kathmandu, March 9: An earthquake has taken place this morning in Kaski district.

An earthquake of magnitude 4 took place today at 7:30 a.m. with its epicenter around Parche in Kaski district, according to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center Lainchaur.

05-       Two people killed in road accident

Inaruwa (Sunsari), March 9: Two people died in a road accident last night at Khanar Chowk of Itahari sub-metropolis-12.

The deceased have been identified as Bipin Dahal, 23, and eight-year-old Abhi Dahal, years old from Belbari-8, Morang. Deputy Superintendent of Police of Sunsari Naveenkrishna Bhandari said. They died when the motorcycle they were riding was hit by a truck.

The accident took place when a motorcycle (Pra. 1-02-041 P 6619) heading to Itahari from Biratnagar was hit by a truck (Pra. 1-02-001 Ka. 4578) travelling in the opposite direction. Both the motorcycle riders were seriously injured in the collision and died during treatment at the hospital, said DSP Bhandari.

The truck driver, Pradeep Koirala, 30, of Iathari-2, has been detained by the police for necessary action.

06-       Nepali society promoting Nepal-Japan relations: Ambassador Dr Subedi

            Tokyo (Japan), March 9: Nepali Ambassador to Japan Dr Durga Bahadur Subedi has said that the contribution made by the Nepali society in Japan to the expansion of Nepal-Japan relations is exemplary.

Ambassador Subedi said that the Nepali society here has played a significant role in expanding cultural, religious and people-level relations between Nepal and Japan. The Nepali society in Japan is very well-organized and prosperous compared to the Nepalis in other countries.

            Diplomatic relations between Nepal and Japan were formally established on September 1, 1956. A year after the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Japan, the Nepali embassy was established in Tokyo. And three years later, Japan opened its embassy in Kathmandu.

            Ambassador Dr Subedi said that Japan has been continuously supporting the economic and social development of the Nepali people and country without any strategic objective. A large number of Nepalis have come to Japan because of the close and strong relationship that has been maintained at the public level with the government.

The Everest International School in Tokyo, which has been providing education based on the Nepali curriculum, has also worked as a bridge in expanding the relationship between the two countries at the people’s level. Principal of the school, Bishnu Prasad Bhatt, says that Japan has given recognition to the school as an international level school.

There are currently 450 students including Japanese studying in the school. Ambassador Dr Subedi said that the work done by the Nepali society in running a school in Tokyo that teaches according to the Nepali curriculum is very laudable.

It is estimated that there are currently around 163,000 Nepalese in Japan. Nepalis have been living in Japan for various professions, employment and studies.

The number of Nepalis involved in higher education studies and restaurant business is more. Currently, there are about 40,000 Nepali students in higher education in Japan, and it is said that there are about 800 Nepali restaurants in operation.

Ambassador Subedi says that Nepali cuisine has also introduced Nepal to Japan with various delicacies.

The Nepali Society in Japan was constituted in 1990. It has been working to promote the interests and welfare of Nepali nationals living in Japan for various reasons including studying, working and business.

07-       Pesticides free week in Karnali   

            Bheriganga (Surkhet), March 9: The Karnali province government has initiated a campaign aimed at discouraging the use of pesticides in farming.    


            The ‘pesticides-free week’ has been organised in order to raise public awareness against harmful impact of pesticides, considering its increasing use by the farmers.

 
            Initiating the campaign, Minister of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives, Bhim Prakash Sharma, said village level awareness programmes should be conducted to free Karnali from the use of chemicals in crops and vegetables.    


            Heart and kidney patients are increasing of late and use of pesticides may be reason behind it, Minister Sharma added.

            Secretary at the Ministry, Dr Narahari Prasad Ghimire, said the use of pesticides is having a serious impact on human health.    


            He emphasized that other alternatives should be used instead of chemicals. The use of pesticides has increased in a bid to increase production to meet the growing demand for food.


            Likewise, Director of Agriculture Development Directorate Chitra Bahadur Rokaya shared that public awareness, information dissemination, display and distribution of biological destroyers of insects, orientation programs in schools will be organised during the week.

08-       Nepal-Hong Kong friendly match: Nepal fielding first 

            Kathmandu, March 9: Nepal and Hong Kong are playing Friendly T20 cricket match today. During the match taking place in Hong Kong, Nepal opted to fielding first after winning the toss.

            Nepali National Men’s Cricket Team had left for Hong Kong on Thursday to play the Triangular T20 Series. The Triangular T20 Series is taking place between Nepal, Hong Kong and Papua New Guinea from tomorrow.

            Before this, Nepal is playing the friendly match with Hong Kong today. It will play its first match with Hong Kong tomorrow under the Triangular T20 Series while next game with Papua New Guinea on March 12.

            Similarly, the final match of the Triangular T20 series would be held on March 13.

            Rohit Paudel (Captain), Kushal Bhurtel, Binod Bhandari, Gulshan Jha, Sandeep Jora, Arif Sheikh, Bibek Yadav, Rashid Khan, Karan KC, Sagar Dhakal, Pratish GC, Lokesh Bam, Akash Chand and Abinash Bohora are in the Nepali team.

09-       Two electrocuted in Kalikot

            Manma, March 9: Two persons died of electric shock in Naraharinath rural municipality-8 in Kalikot district this morning. Those electrocuted were Keshav Raj Thapa, 43, and his nephew Ganga Thapa, 27, from Lalu village.

            They got electric shock while expanding electricity line from Chakha Kaldhunga Substation, according to Pradip Bohora, spokesperson of Naraharinath rural municipality.

            They were shifting an electric pole which accidentally touched the electric wire above, causing the accident.

            Both uncle and nephew died on the spot. The dead one Keshav Raj Thapa was a teacher at Mangalasaini Secondary School.

10-       Launch blood donation drive: Minister Sharma

            Kathmandu, March 9: Minister for Communications and Information Communications, Rekha Sharma, has said blood donation could be launched as a campaign.

            Inaugurating the 2nd International Conference on Blood Donation here today, Minister Sharma viewed both the government and non-government sectors could launch the blood donation drive. The event is organized by the Blood Donors Association Nepal. Time has come to increase number of blood donors.

            Better awareness is imperative on donating blood, she said, pledging awareness materials on blood donation in the public welfare advertisement.

            It could be incorporated also in other public notice and messages, according to her.

            The Minister also informed that she would extend support via health ministry to manage necessary budget to avoid double fee for those in need of blood while the fee is already paid for processing.

            She appreciated the role played by social organizations such as Red Cross and Blood Donors Association for the management of blood in Nepal. Blood management can be taken as part of the disaster management, Minister Sharma suggested.

11-       Mustang women selling agro products at Tanahu fair

            Damauli, March 9: The women from Mustang district have brought agricultural products at the women entrepreneurs’ fair that kicked off at Damauli, Tanahu on Friday.

            The Women Entrepreneurs’ Association district chapter organized the fair.

            Local products are given priority in the event. The Mustang women who produced agricultural products in the district are now selling at the fair.

            In addition to the members of the Women Entrepreneurs’ Association, others from Gharapjhong rural municipality-3 of Mustang arrived here to sell fruits and vegetables.

            Sakuna Rasaili, proprietor of Fruits and Vegetable Processing Industry at Marpha, Mustang, informed, “We arrived at Damauli after we knew about the fair where goods produced by women entrepreneurs could be sold and distributed. We’ve put our products on display and for sale.”

            Apple juice, pepper’s powder, red corn, potato chips, jimbu, and sisnu (stinging nettle) powder, among others are put on sale in the show.

            Liquid soap produced by the women is also on sale. The women from Myagde rural municipality attending training to produce liquid soap, so it is a recent product resulted with the support of local level.

            The liquid soap has also contributed to women’s income generation.

            Moreover, the caps made up of thakal by the women from Byas municipality-11 are in the fair.

            Trade fair is conducted on the occasion of the International Women’s Day. Association Chair Nirmala Malla informed that the fair was aimed at promoting women entrepreneurship and fostering market for the goods produced locally by the women.

            “We believe that traditional skills and occupations will be promoted. We are ready to extend support for it,” she vowed.

            There are 50 stalls in the trade fair. The organizers have estimated the arrival of 40,000 visitors in the event that runs for three days.

            Such events are expected to identify the traditional goods and their use which can be linked to entrepreneurship and income generation, according to Tulashi Shah, Chair of Dulegauda unit of Women Entrepreneurs Association. She believed it also helps on knowledge transfer.

            Even the handicrafts put on sale in the stalls.

12-       Galeshwor Temple collects over Rs 400 thousand in offerings

            Myagdi, March 9: The Galeshwor Temple located at Beni municipality-9 collected more than Rs 400 thousand in offerings on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri.

            The monetary offerings by the pilgrims at the temple on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri on Friday were counted this morning.

            Treasurer of Galeshwor Shivalaya Area Development Trust, Gaumaya Pun, said total Rs 429,388 was collected on the day of Shivaratri. Around 50,000 devotees from Myagdi, Parbat, Baglung, Kaski, Chitwan, Tanahu and Kathmandu visited Galeshwor Temple on Maha Shivaratri. The Galeshwor Temple is also known as the Pashupatinath in Nepal’s west.

            There is a faith that people’s wishes would be fulfilled if they take holy bath in the Kaligandaki River and worship at the Galeshwor Temple on the occasion of Shivaratri.

            Even a Shivaratri fair was organised on this occasion. The fair was facilitated by the District police, community police, volunteers of different schools, clubs and mothers’ group.  The temple has collected Rs 3.79 million in offerings since the beginning of the current fiscal year, according to office secretary of Galeshwor Shivalaya Area Development Trust, Ram Baniya.

13-       NC decides to file candidacy of NA chairperson

            Kathmandu, March 9: The main opposition Nepali Congress has decided to file candidacy to the post of National Assembly chairperson.

            A meeting of office bearers and former office-bearers of the party taken place at the residence of NC President, Sher Bahadur Deuba, in Budhanilakantha took the decision today to file candidacy from the party in the coming election to the post of NA Chairperson, said leader Arjun Narsingh KC.

            He shared, the NC, however, had not confirmed about the candidates to the post of chairperson and vice-chairperson of the NA. 

            The party also decided to consult other opposition parties to seek their support for NA chairperson, he mentioned.

            Today’s meeting discussed changed political landscape in the wake of formation of new ruling alliance. The role of the NC in the parliament was also zeroed in at the meeting, it is said.

            After Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ ditched Nepali Congress from the ruling coalition and inducted new ministers from other parties in the Cabinet, including CPN UML, the Nepali Congress has been pushed to the opposition bench.

14-       Women entrepreneurs worry over market for dhaka garments

            Baglung, March 9: A dozen of women from Taman village of Tamankhola rural municipality-3 of the district established a dhaka clothes industry some years back.

            Upbeat in the beginning, the women continued dhaka yarning. But as they did not get market for their products, they are worried now.

            The store is full of dhaka garments, but demand is negligible. It has forced the women entrepreneurs to run from pillars to post. They sometime reach Burtibang and sometime as far as Myagdi to peddle products.

            A total of 15 women are associated with this small industry set up by local Kalyan Mothers’ Group of Taman village. They began working at the industry after Sangam Consultancy Centre in Baglung provided them 15-day training on dhaka yarn and weaving.

            Established at the cost of Rs 45,000, the industry has produced clothes worth Rs 700 thousand. Group Chair Tika Devi Budhagharti informed  that as their products were not sold for lack of market, they had no option but to peddle from one place to another.

            Various items such as shawl, cap and lungi are made in the industry. But the products did not get market as per expectation.

            The women manage their time for industry at morning and evening. A woman makes the garment worth Rs 30,000 in a month, but it is disappointing for not being able to sale a single item, according to Budhagharti.

           
Similarly, Junu Maya Ghartimagar, who is working in a group, said they worked very enthusiastically in the beginning, but they are now disappointed after their products did not get market. She, however, said they are still hopeful that their goods would get market gradually.

            Although some purchase by the rural municipality encourages them, further initiative was warranted for aggressive marketing.

            Gharti Magar stressed that more women would be self-employed if the government ensures marketing of their products.

Chairperson of Tamankhola rural municipality Joklal Budhamagar, however, shared that they had started initiative for marketization of the products, saying the local level had provided other supports to women entrepreneurs, including machines. 

            Budhamagar blamed increasing use of imported goods from cities to villages for not getting good market of local items.

            The Chairperson pledged that entrepreneurs’ compulsion for searching market for their products would be ended because the rural municipality had prioritized women entrepreneurs. He further assured of providing continuous support to women entrepreneurs, stating that they had made a plan to bear transport expenses to reach products at different trade fairs and festivals.

15-       UML in front for women’s empowerment: Chair Oli

            Kathmandu, March 9: CPN (UML) Chairperson, KP Sharma Oli, has said his party is in front for women’s empowerment and awareness.

            At a programme organised by Motidevi Memorial Centre on the occasion of 114th International Women’s Day here today, Chair Oli asserted that his party would always remain ahead in the campaign of social transformation, women awareness and social justice.

            He underscored that the issues-ensuring 40 percent women representatives out of all people’s representatives in all three levels, and 33 per cent women’s reservation in state bodies- should be taken as achievements.

            Also the former Prime Minister, Oli unveiled ‘Sangharshshil Youddhaharu’ and honoured social campaigners, outstanding researchers and contributors to communist movement.

            Inspiring lady Dhammawati Guruma, young scientist Rojita Buddhacharya, wildlife  photographer Binita Bhandari, entrepreneur Sabitri Thapa, social worker Shanti Chadda, politician Sona Chhedung Lama, brave bus driver Renuka Thapa, doctor Tulsi Shahi, social campaigner Soniya Sadaya and campaigner against human trafficking Charimaya Thamang were honoured on the occasion. 

            Centre Chairperson Asta Laxmi Shakya shared that women contributing to the social transformation and women awareness would also be honoured in future.

            The Centre was established in memory of one of the founders of Communist Party of Nepal, Moti Devi Shrestha.

16-   PM briefs Maoist Centre lawmakers about latest political situation

      Kathmandu, March 9: Prime Minister and Parliamentary Party Leader of the CPN (Maoist Centre) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on Saturday briefed the party lawmakers about the changed political context of the country.

      During a meeting held at the Maoist Centre’s parliamentary party office in Singhadurbar, the PM shared about the reasons behind the change in the ruling alliance and other contemporary political issues, the Chief Whip of the Maoist Centre’s parliamentary party office Hitraj Pandey said.

      On the occasion, Chief Whip of the party in the House of Representatives (HoR) Pandey and Chief Whip in the National Assembly Gopi Bahadur Achhami shared about the meetings of the respective houses. 

      Responding to the queries of the lawmakers, PM Prachanda said that decisions would be taken on the candidates of the National Assembly chairperson and vice-chairperson from the party’s standing committee meeting and the date for taking the vote of confidence will be decided after consulting the coalition partners.

17-   Sitaula chosen NC parliamentary party leader in NA

      Kathmandu, March 9: Nepali Congress (NC) has nominated Krishna Prasad Sitaula as the National Assembly (NA) parliamentary party leader.

      NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Saturday nominated Sitaula as the NC’s parliamentary party leader in the NA. President Deuba appointed Sitaula to the post of the NA party parliamentary leader as per the Article 12(1) of the NC Parliamentary Party Statute (Amendment and Revision, 2074).

18-   Nepal Day marked in Doha

      Kathmandu, March 9: The Embassy of Nepal in Doha marked the Nepal Day Celebration on March 8 in Qatar. The event was organized by coinciding with the conclusion of Doha Expo 2023.

      The Embassy of Nepal said that as high as 500 people attended the Nepal Day Celebration including the Ambassadors of different countries to Qatar and the Commissioner Generals of several countries running their pavilions in the Doha Expo.

      Inaugurating the Nepal Day Celebration, Deputy Secretary General of Doha Expo, General Mohammad Al Saad, praised for Nepal’s active participation in the Expo.

      During the event, Nepal’s Ambassador to Qatar Dr Naresh Bikram Dhakal said that the celebration was crucial for Nepal and briefed the participants about Nepal’s geographic condition and natural heritages while sharing about the investment opportunities in Nepal. 

      Nepalese cultural events, dances, processions and parades were also performed on the occasion. Commissioner General of Nepal pavilion Krishna Kumar Subedi said that the event played crucial role to bring Qatar government on board as a development partner of Nepal.

      Nepali business community has expected more investment from the Middle East in Nepal after the event. Inaugurated on October 2, the Doha Expo has participation of morethan 100 business firms from 80 plus countries across the world.

19-   Nepal lost to Hong Kong in friendly cricket

      Kathmandu, March 9: Hong Kong has defeated Nepal in friendly T20 cricket by 73 runs.

      Put to bat first after winning toss in the match held today, Hong Kong scored 212 runs in designated 20 overs at the loss of six wickets. Chasing the target of 213 runs for win, Nepal could only gather 139 runs in 16.4 overs at the loss of all wickets.

      Binod Bhandari contributed 41 runs off 22 balls for Nepal. Captain Rohit Kumar Paudel made 20runs while Asif Sheikh gathered 38 runs. Earlier, Hong Kong’s Babar Hayat smashed 110 runs off 49 balls with three fours and 13 sixes. Likewise, Martin Coetzee sand Amshi Ray scored 31 and 39 runs, respectively.

      Towards bowling, Akash Chand, who made his debut for Nepal in today’s match, took three wickets. The Nepasli team had left for Hong Kong on Thursday to play the tri-series. The T20 series involving Nepal, Hong Kong and Papua New Guinea is taking place from March 11.

      Nepal will play its first match of the tri-series against Hong Kong on March 11. Similarly, Nepal will play against Papua New Guinea on March 12. The final match of the tri-series will be played on March 13.

      The Nepali squad comprises Rohit Kumar Paudel (captain), Kushal Bhurtel, Binod Bhandari, Gulshan Jha, Sandeep Jora, Arif Sheikh, Bibek Yadav, Rashid Khan, Karan KC, Sagar Dhakal, Pratish GC, Lokesh Bam, Akash Chand and Avinash Bohora.

20-   ‘Saint leader Kishunjee’s life inspirational’

      Surkhet, March 9: Nepali Congress (NC) Vice-President Purna Bahadur Khadka said all should take inspirations from the life of saint leader Krishna Prasad Bhattarai.

      Laying the foundation stone of the saint leader Krishna Prasad Bhattarai memorial building to be constructed by the NC province working committee at Biratnagar, today, Khadka said Kishunjee’s ideals, honesty, discipline and dedication to the entire Nepali people were worth-internalizing.

      “We should learn from Kishunjee, one of the founder leaders of the NC, on what should be the life style and thoughts of the people dedicated to the social and political life,” Khaka said.

      Leader Bhattarai had left us the epitomic examples on how the people bearing state responsibilities should perform to serve the interests of the country and the people. “The building is being constructed before the name of Kishunjee”, he said, adding, it would be a good opportunity for Karnali Congress to run the party being accountable to the people”.

22-   Contributors to education and human rights sectors feted

      Kathmandu, March 9: The Rudraraj Literary Service Committee has feted two personalities and an institution in recognition of their substantial contributions to education and human rights sectors.

      At a programme organized here today on the occasion of the 124th birth anniversary of Sardar Rudraraj Pande, the service committee honoured Dr Gaurishanker Lal Das for his special contributions to the medicine and human rights sectors.

      Likewise, the committee presented this year’s education honour to educationist Prof Dr Shanker Raj Pathak. He had entered the educations sector as a principal of Saraswoti College Kathmandu in 2016 BS. He had discharged key responsibilities, including founder member of the Nepal University Teachers Association, its general secretary and the Vice-Chancellor of the Tribhuvan University. Educationist Pathak received a cash of Rs 50,000 and a letter of appreciation.

      Likewise, the committee has presented this year’s ‘special honour’ to the Shikshak Masik (a monthly educational magazine) acknowledging its consistent contributions to education sector of Nepal for the past one and a half decades.

      On the occasion, Shikshak Masik’s editor Rajendra Dahal was given away a cash of Rs 50,000 and a letter of appreciation. Former Vice-Chancellor of the Tribhuvan University, Kedarman Byathit handed over the honour and awards to the feted personalities.

      The service committee, established in 2044 BS, has been honouring individuals and institutions every year in recognition of their special contributions to education, literature, history and spiritualism sectors.

      It may be noted that Sardar Pandey had extended spectacular contributions to Nepali language, literature, education, culture and spiritual sectors.

23-   President Paudel attends reception

      Kathmandu, March 9: President Ramchandra Paudel attended a reception held at the Nepal Army headquarters this evening on the occasion of the Mahashivaratri and Nepal Army Day.

      President Paudel is the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Nepal Army. Vice President, Prime Minister, Chief Justice and Speaker were present on the occasion.

      The Nepal Army celebrated its 261st establishment day on Mahashivaratri this year. Deputy Prime Minister, Ministers, Chiefs of constitutional bodies, distinguished government officers, chiefs and representatives of diplomatic missions in Nepal and eminent personalities from different walks of life were present on the occasion.

      On the occasion, students of national cadet courses from different countries visiting Nepal attended the non-resident military attaches and youth exchange programmes.

24-   Govt. declares 2,674 martyrs

      Kathmandu, March 9: The government has enlisted 2,674 individuals in the name of martyrs. According to Spokesperson of Home Ministry Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, the ministry has also published the martyrs’ names in the Nepal Gazette.

      Earlier, a meeting of the Council of Ministers held on January 9 had decided to declare martyrs to those who lost their lives in different movement, armed conflicts and revolutions.

      Those names were published in the Nepal Gazette only on Thursday.

Last year, the government had published name of 8,467 martyrs recognizing their contributions in different movements.
