Mahendranagar (Dhanusha), Apr 9: Chief Minister of Madhes Province, Saroj Kumar Yadav, has said both immediate and long-term plans are imperative to solve drinking water problems in Madhes.
During a consultative seminar organized by Drinking Water and Drainage Department under the federal government on quality water supply in Madhes on Monday, CM Yadav informed that as the ground water table was sinking in the southern belt of Madhes for some years, it resulted into drinking water crisis. So, the federal government must launch programmes with both sorts of plan, he underlined.
He thanked the federal government for deciding to supply some water from Sunkoshi Marine Diversion after processing for drinking water in six districts of Madhes Province. “This plan is laudable. Madhes Province is committed to work in collaboration. As it takes time for completion of the project, we need immediate plans,” he said and urged the federal government to pay heed to this urgency.
“I want to urge federal government to launch immediate plan and programmes so that drinking water problem would be addressed on time,” he viewed.
In the programme held under the chairmanship of federal Minister for Drinking Water, Rajendra Kumar Rai, Chair of Women, Children and Social Committee of the House of Representatives, Kiran Sah; former Minister for Drinking Water, Mahendra Raya; and Minister for Energy, Drinking Water and Irrigation in province, Singhashan Saha, among others spoke on present situation of water supply and further strategy.
Director at Drinking Water and Drainage Department, Kamal Raj Shrestha, had presented a working paper in the seminar.

02- Rule of law warrants parties’ role: Leader Poudel
Kathmandu, April 9: Nepali Congress leader Pradip Paudel has viewed political parties must work for establishing rule of law.
Addressing a greetings exchange programme organized on the occasion of New Year, 2081BS, leader Poudel wished correction in political parties so that rule of law would be established, thereby creating hope among people.
“This past year, 2080BS witnessed several questions over governance and political activities, so parties can review their past and promise not to repeat the activities that dishearten people,” he underscored. Poudel, however, said only question does not amount to culpability.
He reiterated that his party had not budged from the stance of a probe committee on cooperatives fraud. “NC has been continuously voicing for it. It is also a matter of morality in politics,” Poudel reminded.
Moreover, the NC leader argued anyone who blames others should be ready to respond when he/she also faces blame.
Cleaning up corruption is essential to serve good governance to the people, according to him.

03- Nepali Embassy attends travel show in Ottawa
Kathmandu, Apr 9: The Embassy of Nepal participated in the Travel and Vacation Show, 2024 organized in Ottawa on April 6-7 as part of its economic diplomacy programme to promote tourism in Nepal.
The Embassy had set up a stall where tourism promotional materials were displayed and distributed to the visitors. Tourism promotional videos were also played throughout the exhibition, according to Nepali Embassy in Canada.
Nepali exportable products such as tea, coffee, pashmina shawls, handicrafts, and items portraying Nepal’s artistic and cultural diversity were also displayed on the occasion.
Many people visited the Nepali stall and inquired about the touristic attractions in Nepal. They were provided information regarding the season, temperature, and connectivity. The visitors enquired if Nepal caters to the interests of all age group of visitors.
Travel agencies, tour wholesellers, hotels, airlines companies, tour promoters of different countries as well as the embassies based in Ottawa also displayed and promoted their tourism products during the exhibition.

04- Fire in Matihani causes loss of over Rs 3.5 million
Mahottari, Apr 9: A fire occurred at a furniture industry of Matihani-8 in the district caused huge loss last night.
It was shared that property worth over Rs 3.5 million was lost in the fire that engulfed Bharat Furniture run by Dukhmochan Thakur.
District Police Office, Mahottari informed that the fire occurred at 10:00pm Monday.
Furniture and other raw materials in the industry were destroyed in the blaze. Teams of the Armed Police Force and Nepal Police and locals worked together and took help of a fire engine to extinguish the blaze.

05- Electricity supply disrupted in Jumla
Jumla, Apr 9: Nearly 800 households in the district have been forced to live in darkness owing to electricity disruption for two days.
The Dillichaur hydropower project failed to generate power owing to cut off in water supply. The canal supplying water to the hydropower was damaged by a landslide.
The canal collapsed, disrupting water supply. It is damaged in 25-meter stretch. “Although locals had noticed cracks on canal wall, it lacked timely repair, resulting into power disruption since Sunday,” said Chairman of Vidyut Cooperatives, Krishna Bahadur Budha, expressing regret.
Budha informed that it costs Rs 600 thousand as per technicians to reconstruct the channel.
Nearly 800 households from ward no 4, 5 and 6 of Patarasi rural municipality have been deprived of electricity after the damage in water supply. It also caused difficulty in the daily works of government offices, and banks and financial institutions.
Meanwhile, Rs 300 thousand has been allocated from the rural municipality for the reconstruction of hydropower canal.
Rural municipality Chair Purna Singh Bohara informed that they were at work to resume power supply at the earliest.

06- Chautara Hospital reconstructed with Chinese assistance
Chautara, Apr 9: A 39-bed Chautara Hospital has been reconstructed in Sindhupalchowk with the Chinese assistance. It has ended district people’s compulsion to visit neighbouring districts and federal capital for treatment.
The hospital building was destroyed by Gorkha Earthquake in 2015. It has been reconstructed at the cost of 61 million Chinese Yuan, according to project chief Guo Waochang.
The health facility was rebuilt with the management of Huwae Construction Supervision Company and China Sichuan Engineer Corporation.
The hospital has various sections, including OPD, laboratory, emergency, nursing station, x-ray, video x-ray, vaccination centre, and tuberculosis and AIDS treatment units.
Other facilities are police office, fire control, children section, physiotherapy, counseling, reception and dispensary.
A 450-KV generator is placed in the first floor to ensure smooth power supply to the hospital. Even a medical waste water processing equipment is installed in the hospital premises.

07- Mahakumbha Mela kicks off today, President scheduled to inaugurate
Dharan, Apr 9: The Mahakumbha Mela, a grand religious fair, is beginning at Chatara of Barahachhetra municipality-1 in Sunsari today.
President Ram Chandra Paudel is scheduled to inaugurate the fair, according to Ramesh Karki, Mayor of Barahachhetra municipality, and Co-Chair of Mela main organizing committee.
The grand fair to run for a month is expected to draw some 3 million visitors. Arrangement has been made accordingly, the organizing committee shared.
Total 2,000 security persons including the Nepali Army, the Armed Police Force and Nepal Police, have been mobilized on the inaugural day. The number of visitors will be estimated with the help of CCTV footage.
There are 26 sub-committees under main organizing committee for the effective management of the grand fair. Similarly, the fair will have 480 trade stalls.
The organizing committee has banned the sales and distribution of alcohol in the area for 40 days.
