Badigad landslide: Three children still missing

Balewa (Baglung), Aug 8: Whereabouts of three children who went missing in the landslide that occurred in Badigad rural municipality-10, Arupata on Tuesday morning is still unknown.

A joint team of Nepal Army, Armed Police Force Nepal and Nepal Police is searching for seven-year-old Madhu, 10-year-old Manoj Budha and 11-year-old Suman Thapa.

The bodies of Jog Bahadur Budha, 78, Yamlal BK, 14, Sita Pun, 11, Amal Budha, 8, Sanju BK’s six-month-old daughter Sita and 70-year-old Maitidevi BK have been recovered, said Badigad rural municipality chair Gandaki Thapa.

Among the 10 seriously injured, Rima Pun, 19, Sita Thapa, 31, and Sangita Budha, 46, are undergoing treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu.

Meanwhile, landslides have started occurring in Jhabrikhet along with the construction of the road. The settlement of Kushmishera of Jaimini Municipality-1 is at risk due to continuous landslides there.

The landslide has started at the area where the road connecting Kushmishera Bazaar to Balewa Amlachaur via Primary Health Centre Kushmishera has been extended.

Deepak Poudel, a landslide victim, said that some of the people affected by the landslide every year have been displaced. The Poudel family has been displaced due to the landslide while the houses of locals including Resham Lal Acharya and Rajendra Acharya are at risk.
