‘Free education from political interference’

Kathmandu, Aug 8: The parliamentarians have demanded the introduction of ‘School Education Bill, 2080’ to ensure school a politics-free zone. The parliamentarians said this while presenting amendments to the bill in the Wednesday meeting of the Education, Health and Information Technology Committee under the House of Representatives.

MP Rankumari Balampakhi Magar emphasized that the bill should be amended to arrange for a separate teacher of mother language at school level.

Manish Jha voiced for zero politicization in the appointment of professors, lecturers, board of directors, or any other appointments in the university.

Sunita Baral opined that the school management committee should be made inclusive. Other points to be stressed in the bill, as the parliamentarians, argued were adequate physical structures, reasonable fee, appropriate school rule, uniformity in the matters of establishment and operation of schools, quality and contextual curriculum, and scientific examinations.

On the occasion, Minister of Education, Science and Technology Bidya Bhattarai shared that a process was underway to revise curriculum and overall structure of the Higher Education Examination Board, and Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT).

Minister Bhattarai informed the Committee that about 1,478 Nepali students who are pursuing higher education in Bangladesh are safe.
