Narchyang (Myagdi), June 1: The Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the first ascent of Mt Annapurna have begun.
The celebration event was inaugurated by welcoming a team that trekked from Narchyang in Annapurna Rural Municipality-4 of Myagdi to the base camp of Mt Annapurna at the entry point of the trekking route, Narchyang Valley on Saturday.
Mathias Herzog the son of the first person to reach the summit of 8,091-meter-high Mt Annapurna, Maurice Herzog of France was part of a team of 14 foreigners, tourism entrepreneurs, and journalists who came to participate in the trekking team starting from Sunday. They were welcomed by the Annapurna Rural Municipality-4 Ward Office, Annapurna, Janajagaran Youth Club, and the Creative Mothers’ Group.
French artists who came with Mathias Herzog made musical presentation in honour of the first climber. They are also scheduled to perform at the Annapurna Base Camp this evening. Six guests from France, three from Britain, five from India and one from Italy, including the son of the first climber Maurice, Mathias, and grandson Ethan Herzog, have come to participate in the Diamond Jubilee program at the invitation of the government, said Lok Bahadur Pun, Ward Chair of Annapurna Rural Municipality-4.
According to him, about 200 people are participating in the Maurice Herzog trekking team that will reach the Annapurna Base Camp at an altitude of 4,100 meters today via Narchyang valley, Humkhola, Phutphute Jharana, Sandhikharka, Bhusket, Panchkunda Lake.
The Diamond Jubilee will be celebrated by holding various programs until June 5, said Annapurna Rural Municipality Chair Bharat Kumar Pun.
Annapurna is called the eldest mountain because it was the first human step above eight thousand meters. On June 3, 1950, the French team of Maurice Herzog and Louis Lachenal reached the summit of Annapurna.

02- Rainfall likely in Koshi, Madesh, Bagmati and Gandaki
Kathmandu, June 1: Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is possible at a few places of Koshi, Madesh, Bagmati and Gandaki Provinces and at one or two places of rest of the country today.
This is due to the influence of westerly winds and local winds in the western and central parts of the country, while most parts of Koshi Province are under the influence of monsoon winds, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
As a result, the weather will remain partly to generally cloudy in the hilly areas of Koshi, Madesh, Bagmati and Gandaki and mainly fair to partly cloudy in rest of the country.
Tonight, the weather will remain partly to generally cloudy throughout the country. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is possible at a few places of Koshi, Madesh, Bagmati and Gandaki Provinces and at one or two places of rest of the country.

03- Power supply to ICU and CCU wards interrupted
Birgunj (Parsa), June 1: Power supply was interrupted in the ICU and CCU wards of Narayani Hospital for two hours and 30 minutes.
The power supply was cut off in the wards of the hospital from 10:30 pm on Friday to 1:00 am on Saturday, allegedly due to negligence of the hospital administration and management.
A total of 17 patients were undergoing treatment at the ICU and CCU of the hospital, who were fortunately saved by the doctors and nursing staff, who took necessary precautions and used their mobile phone lights to continue with the treatment.
Meanwhile, the District Administration Office has taken serious note of the incident of power outage in sensitive wards like ICU and CCU of Narayani Hospital on Friday night.
The DAO has called for an internal investigation and take necessary action against the employees indulging in the negligent act. Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal and Parsa Police Chief Gautam Mishra held a joint meeting on Saturday with the Chair of Narayani Hospital Development Committee, the Acting Medical Superintendent, the Chief of Administration, doctors working in various departments and wards of the hospital, nursing staff, electricians and other officials and employees of all agencies connected to the hospital and gave strict instructions to take the matter seriously.
Narayani Hospital Development Committee Chair Dhiraj Kumar Gupta expressed his commitment not to allow such incidents to be repeated in the future.
Chitraranjan Sah, acting medical superintendent of the hospital, claimed that the incident occurred due to poor electrical wiring in the ICU and CCU rooms.

04- Foreign Minister Dr Rana home after attending IOMed signing ceremony
Kathmandu, June 1: Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Arzu Rana Deuba returned home last night after attending the signing ceremony of the Convention on the Establishment of the International Organisation for Mediation (IOMed) organised in Hong Kong, a Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China, on May 30.
Dr Rana attended the ceremony as an observer at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
A total of 32 countries signed the Convention, while more than 50 countries and over 20 international organisations participated. The organisation aims to resolve international disputes between states, citizens, business and individuals across borders through mediation.
Meanwhile, on the sidelines of the event, Dr Rana held a bilateral meeting with Minister Wang, which focused on strengthening the friendly relations between Nepal and China. Additionally, the meeting touched on expanding economic, technical and commercial relations between the two countries and on the timely completion of development projects in Nepal supported by China.
“As this year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and China discussion was also held on celebrating this occasion with special events and continuing the exchange of high-level visits between the two countries,” Dr Rana said.
The Nepali delegation led by Dr Rana included Head of the Northeast Asia Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bhrigu Dhungana and Consul General of Nepal in Hong Kong Dr Bindeswar Prasad Lekhak, as well as representatives from the Ministry and the Consulate General in Hong Kong.

05- Four girls from Belbari missing for four days
Belbari (Morang), June 1: Four girls from Lalbhitti, Belbari Municipality-2, Morang have been reported missing.
The missing are 13-year-old Jenisa Nepali and 15-year-old Sabita Pariyar, students at Mahendra Secondary School in Sundarharaicha-11, and 12-year-old Smriti Karki Doli and Anushka Karki Doli, studying at Kabir Secondary School in Belbari-2.
It is said that the girls had left home on May 29, saying that they were going to meet a friend.
Chief of the Area Police Office Belbari Police Inspector Krishna Bahadur Khatri shared that a search for the missing girls is ongoing.

06- Rural roads blocked due to rain
Gaighat (Udayapur) June 1: Various rural roads in the hilly areas of the district have been blocked due to the rainfall on Saturday.
The road section from the district headquarters Gaighat to Rauta have been blocked while rural roads including Rauta-Salle and Rauta-Bhutar have also been blocked.
Rural roads in the Pambu area including Rauta-Namanta, Rauta-Aaptar, Nametar-Okhreni, Rametar-Bhadaure have also been blocked, said local resident Dilliram Magar. The road leading to Majhkharka via Rauta-Murkuchi and Dilli Bar has also collapsed at various places and the road has been blocked due to the formation of potholes by floods.
Continuous rain was received for more than three hours in the district on Saturday.
Ganga Ghalemgar of Dumre said that the Bhalayadanda-Barre, Dumre-Udayapurgadhi rural municipality roads have also collapsed due to the rain.
The road connecting Mainamaini from Kothu in Belka Municipality-8 has collapsed and thus remains shut for traffic.
