Kathmandu, June 3: The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has expressed its commitment to effectively implement the National Action Plan for Monsoon Preparedness and Response.
Learning from the previous years, we will work to effectively implement the action plan for damage reduction this year, said Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Authority, Bandhu Prasad Bastola, at a press conference here today. For this disaster early warning system will be made effective, the coordination and cooperation among the concerned agencies for monsoon disaster preparedness and response will be improved in view of the monsoon season.
Bastola also shared that information will be delivered to the vulnerable groups, regions and communities in a timely manner by strengthening the early warning system. The Authority estimates that about 2 million people will be affected by the monsoon this year.
It may be noted that the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has projected that most parts of the country will receive more than the average rainfall in the monsoon this year.

22- Seven tourist buses escorted to their destinations
Chitwan, June 3: The District Police Office (DPO) in Chitwan has safely and successfully escorted ten stranded tourist buses at Sauraha of Chitwan to their respective destinations amid a strike called by the transport entrepreneurs.
According to DSP, Rabindra Khanal, of the DPO Chitwan, seven buses bound to Kathmandu and three heading towards Pokhara from Sauraha were unable to set out to their respective destinations due to the ongoing strike.
It may be noted that the transport entrepreneurs have launched a nation-wide shut-down public transportation protesting the ride-sharing services related legislation introduced by the Gandaki Province government.
DSP Khanal mentioned that police escorted those buses up to the district’s border using motorcycles to ensure safety of the tourists and the vehicles.
He said that the buses travelling towards Pokhara were escorted up to Mugling while Kathmandu-bound buses were escorted up to Mouwakhola.
According to him, buses with registration numbers Pra 3-001 Pa 1623, Ba 1 Pa 974, Ba 1 Pa 689, Ba 1 Pa 1391, Ba 1-001 Pa 1703, Ba 1 Pa 1399, Ba 1 Pa 107, Ga 1 Pa 287, Ga 1 Pa 191 and Ba 1 Pa 1070 were escorted.

23- Nepal-India Trade Fair from Thursday
Baitadi, June 3: Preparations are underway for the Nepal-India International Trade Fair 2082 to be held from June 5 to 9 at the Dehimadau Sports Ground in Dasharathchand Municipality-2 of the district.
The fair is being organized by Dasharathchand Municipality with the support of the Foreign Trade and Export Promotion Center and is managed by of Gwallek Media Group Pvt. Ltd, said the Rajendra Bista, Information Officer of the Municipality.
Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Damodar Bhandari is scheduled to inaugurate the fair while Bishan Singh Chuphal, Member of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly of India, will be the guest at the inauguration ceremony.
The fair has been organised to promote domestic industries and businesses and expand the national and international market for Nepali products and services. In addition, our aim is to attract foreign investment and technology and establish business relations between domestic and foreign investors, said Mayor of the Municipality Pushkar Raj Joshi.
The fair that will see participation of business chambers from Nepal and India will also feature performances by artists from Nepal and India. In addition, local products from both the countries will be exhibit at the fair.
Special priority has been given to promoting local art, culture, costumes and trade at the fair, which is free for entry.

24- Amendment of constitution should begin immediately: General
Secretary Thapa
Nepalgunj, June 3: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that the government should start the work of amending the constitution immediately.
Addressing participants of the Nepali Congress, Banke Regional Conference here today, he said that it is necessary to fulfill the commitment made in the seven-point agreement reached between the ruling Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML.
Pointing out the need to establish a system where one party can get a majority, Thapa said that the electoral system that encourages coalition governments has hurt the country. He said that it is necessary to find a way for a stable government that will last for five years, for which the constitution has to be amended.
Stating that the position of Vice President and Deputy Speaker at the Federal level and of the provinces should be reviewed, he argued that making 10 to 15 ministers at the Federal level and three to five ministers in the provinces would help reduce administrative cost.
Nepali Congress is clear about the federal democratic republic, he said while pointing out that the people’s disenchantment has been used as an excuse to spread provocation in the country.

25 – PM Oli observes Sharma’s painting exhibition
Kathmandu, June 3: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli observed the painting exhibition by senior artist Hari Prasad Sharma here today.
PM Oli viewed the exhibition themed ‘Nepal Down the Ages: Glimpse of Nepali History, Culture and Lifestyles in Painting’ that is ongoing at the Nepal Art Council at Babarmahal in Kathmandu.
A total of 60 paintings depicting traditional lifestyle, ancient culture and the then social context of the Kathmandu Valley as well as important developments in the country over various periods have been kept at display at the exhibition.
PM Oli, after observing the paintings, commended the hard work and dedication put by painter Sharma into his artwork.
Noting that it is not easy to portray Nepali art, culture and history in painting, the septuagenarian Prime Minister lauded 83-year-old Sharma for remaining active in painting even at this age.
The exhibition organized by Nepal Heritage Association has been running since May 23.

26- omplaint lodged demanding action against parties protesting republic and secularism
Kathmandu, June 3: A complaint has been lodged at the Election Commission demanding action against the political parties –registered as per the Constitution – protesting the republic and secularism which is anti-constitutional.
Advocate Dr Premraj Silwal, a local of Tokha Municipality-8, registered the complaint on Monday.
In the application, it is stated that the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) led by Rajendra Lingden – which has been represented in the Federal Parliament after being registered at the EC has been staging street demonstration against the Constitution and democratic republic system.
The applicant in the complaint claimed that the demonstration is against the constitution and law, demanding compliance of the constitutional provisions related to political parties.
The complainant also demanded action against the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) as its protest has brazenly violated the constitutional arrangement on the democratic republic which has been enshrined as the irreversible provision in the main law of the land.
Advocate Silwal shared that he lodged the complaint demanding justification from the RPP, demand an end to the anti-constitutional and anti-law actions taking place in the name of the protest and take legal action to the extent of withdrawing the registration of the political party.
He further shared that the application has been registered at the Prime Minister’s Office demanding the action.

27- Gandaki suspends ‘ride sharing’ regulations for a month
Kaski, June 3: The Gandaki Provincial government has decided to suspend the implementation of the ‘ride sharing’ regulations for a month.
Following deliberations among the negotiation committee including Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey a decision was taken not to implement the regulations for a month, shared Kamal Kumar Adhikari, Secretary at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development and Transport Management and Coordinator of the committee.
Accordingly a decision has been taken to invite transport entrepreneurs for negotiations again and suspend the implementation of the Gandaki Provincial Ride Sharing (Regulation and Management) Regulations, 2082 during that period.
Secretary Adhikari also confirmed receiving a letter from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers today to create an environment favourable for withdrawal of the public transport shutdown and bringing public life back to normal.
It may be noted that an agreement had been reached between the federal government and the transport entrepreneurs on Monday night, which included withdrawing of the ride sharing regulations from the Gandaki government.

28 – Agitating employees and government talks team enter 14-point
agreement
Kankrebihar (Surkhet), June 3: Employees of local governments under the Karnali province have called off their protest.
The protest has come to a halt after a 13-point agreement was reached between the government-formed talks team and agitating employees.
Arguing that the Local Service Formation and Operation Act was discriminatory, the employees of 79 local governments have been on agitation for over two weeks bringing their works to a halt.
The province government on Monday had formed a talk and facilitation committee under the leadership of Secretary (Law) of the Office of Chief Minister and Council of Ministers, Birendra Bahadur KC.
The consensus was made after tripartite dialogue and discussion among the committee, national level trade unions active in Surkhet and local service employees network Karnali province committee.
The government had registered the Bill designed to Amend the Local Service (Formation and Operation) Act, 2081 at the Province Assembly on last May 16.
The agitation was called off after an agreement was reached to amend the clauses and sub-clauses of the bill which are directly affecting the career development of the employees working in local level service, coordinator of Local Service Employees Network Karnali Province, Bikram Shahi, said.

29- Tharu Int Cultural Conference concludes with 7-point Declaration
Mahendranagar (Dhanusha), June 3: The two-day Tharu International Cultural Conference held at Janakpurdham, Dhanusha has concluded issuing a seven-point Declaration.
Jointly organized by Tharu International General Assembly and various Tharu organizations, the conference brought together Tharu delegates from Nepal and neighbouring India.
In a press meet held on Tuesday, the organizers said that the participants deliberated on the concept, objectives and organizational principles of the Tharu International General Assembly.
Furthermore, they also dwelt on resolutions to address the problems and common challenges facing the Tharu community, it was shared.
Strongly condemning terrorism, the seven-point Declaration emphasizes protection and promotion of Tharu language, culture and history and calls for international efforts to promote indigenous communities’ rights.
The Declaration also included establishment of a cultural research centre dedicated to the Tharu community, it was informed.
The Conference decided to form a Nepal chapter of the Tharu International Federation. Shrawan Tharu has been appointed as coordinator of the Nepal chapter.
The Conference concluded with decision to expand the organization internationally to protect and promote rights of the Tharu community across the borders through cooperation and collaboration.
It may be noted that the Tharu community constitutes a significant ethnic group in Nepal with an estimated population of 1.8 million, according to the census in 2021. It is 6.2 per cent of the country’s total population.

30- Prime Minister Oli for new financial order and strong global
cooperation
Kathmandu, June 3: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stressed on the need for a new financial order and strong global cooperation for development and prosperity.
Addressing a virtual meeting called by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres today on the eve of the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development to be held in Seville, Spain from June 30 to July 3, Prime Minister Oli also urged for healthy institutional reforms.
In the virtual meeting attended by various heads of state and government, Prime Minister Oli emphasized on effective global cooperation, as developing countries cannot sustain on their own resources alone amid declining overseas development assistance and investment.
Prime Minister Oli also shared about the national aspiration of a prosperous Nepal, happy Nepalis and expressed the commitment to work to upgrade Nepal from a least developed country to a mid-income country by 2026 and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

31- Transport entrepreneurs withdraw their protest after Gandaki govt. forced to suspend regulations
Kathmandu, June 3: Transport entrepreneurs, who have brought public transport service to a halt across the country, have called off their protest programmes.
Following directive from the federal government, the Gandaki Province government decided to suspend the ride-sharing regulations for a month. The transport entrepreneurs had shut down public transportation service in protest against the regulations introduced by the Gandaki province government.
An agreement was reached between the federal government and the transport entrepreneurs at midnight on Monday itself. However, transport entrepreneurs waited for the Gandaki provincial government to withdraw the regulations before calling off the strike.
As a result, despite the agreement, the general public had to suffer with no public transport available.President of the National Federation of Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs, Bijay Swar, said that the protest programs have been withdrawn, and public transport service resumed from today itself.
An agreement was reached after repeated talks between high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Management and transport entrepreneurs on Monday.
The agreement was forwarded to the Gandaki Province government through the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. Based on the recommendation from the federal government, the Gandaki government suspended the regulations for a month.
