Partly to generally cloudy weather today

Kathmandu, June 16: There is currently the influence of monsoon winds in some parts of the Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces and in a few parts of the eastern region of the Lumbini province.

Likewise, the western belt of the country is experiencing partial effects of western and local winds, the Meteorological Forecasting Division.

The weather across the country will be partly to generally cloudy this afternoon. Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is likely to occur in some places of Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Sudurpashchim provinces, as well as in some other regions.

There is also a possibility of heavy rainfall in one or two places in Koshi, Madhes, and Bagmati provinces.

In some places of the high hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces and one or two places of other high hilly and mountainous regions, there is a possibility of light rain and snowfall.

Rhe weather across the country tonight will remain partly to generally cloudy, the weather bulletin of the forecasting division stated.  There is a likelihood of light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning in some areas of Koshi, Madhes, Gandaki, and Sudurpashchim provinces, as well as in some other regions.

There is also a chance of heavy rainfall in one or two places in Koshi, Madhes, Gandaki, and Sudurpashchim provinces.

According to the division, there is a possibility of light rain and snowfall in some areas of the high hills and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, as well as in a few places of the remaining high hills and mountainous terrain.

HoR meeting to take place today

Kathmandu, June 16: The meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) is scheduled to take place at 11.00 am on Monday.

In the meeting to be held at the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneswor, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel is scheduled to present two bills related to the budget.

According to the Federal Parliament Secretariat, the Finance Minister will present the ‘Appropriation Bill, 2082’ and the ‘Bill to Raise National Debt, 2082’.

Similarly, Finance Minister Paudel will respond to the queries raised by the parliamentarians regarding the annual estimates of revenue and expenditure for the fiscal year 2082/83.

Additionally, a bill related to the ‘Constitutional Council Functions, Duties, Powers and Procedures (First Amendment) Bill, 2079’ will be tabled in today’s meeting along with a message received from the National Assembly.

Dhorpatan connected to road network

Myagdi, June 16: A track of road connecting Myagdi and Dhorpatan of Baglung has been opened.

The road is considered an alternative route to the Baglung section along the Mid Hill Highway and a ‘lifeline’ of Mangala, Malika, and Dhawalagiri municipalities in Myagdi.

The Beni-Darwang-Muna-Jaljala-Dhorpatan road is a short route connecting Dhorpatan with eastern Rukum from Kathmandu and Pokhara via Benighat.

With the federal government budget of Rs 50 million, the Road Division Office in Baglung has constructed the track of the road from Dhawalagiri-2, Mereni to Jaljala in Dhorpatan, informed Chairperson of Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality, Prem Prasad Pun.

‘About nine kilometers of road track has been constructed from the forest above Mereni towards Jaljala. A 10-km dirt road had already connected from Dhorpatan to Jaljala,’ he said.

‘Although the dozer has reached Jaljala, transportation can only start after the leveling work is completed.’

Construction of the road had started from Beni some 27 years ago. A track having a length of around 64 kilometers from Benighat to Jaljala through Muna-Khoriya-Mareni has been opened.

It is stated that construction of the road from Benighat to Takshera in the eastern Rukum would shorten the distance by 70 kilometers compared to the Baglung section of the Mid-Hill Highway.

11th Chure Conservation Day being observed today

Kathmandu, June 16: The 11th Chure Conservation Day is being observed today on the occasion of the establishment of President Chure-Terai Madhesh Conservation Development Committee.

Committee’s Programme Implementation Unit, Chitwan, Prakash Nepal informed that a main function has been organized in Kawaswoti of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East) on the presence of President Ramchandra Paudel today.

It may be noted that the Committee was established in 2079 BS aiming at contributing to poverty alleviation through natural resource conservation, sustainable management and ecosystem protection in Chure.

Since its establishment, the Committee has reported that it has worked to control landslides, streams and gully in 1,459 locations, expand multi-year crops over 166 hectares of steep agrarian land, run a greenery promotion programme over 5,230 hectares, and produce and distribute 2.93 million saplings.

Furthermore, it has constructed 412 kilometers of riverbank walls, established 162 hectares of green belts, and or restored 139 wetland ponds, built rainwater collection ponds, and conserved 548 water sources.

Additionally, nearly 1.5 billion rupees have been spent in the name of Chure conservation. The Committee has spent 14.96 billion rupees up to the fiscal year 2080-81.

The Committee having its central office in Lalitpur has been working throughout the country by setting up programme implementation units in Salakpur, Janakpur, Chitwan, Butwal, and Lamki.

Thapa elected Chair of PPLA

Kathmandu, June 16: Amar Thapa has been elected the chairperson of the Progressive and Professional Lawyers Association Nepal (PPLA).

In the election held last night, a 99-member committee was picked with Thapa as the chair, informed Chief Election Officer Chokbahadur Magar.

According to him, Bhimsen Banjara has been elected the open vice-chair of the Association, Yashodadevi Kharel as the women vice-chair, Bhuwan Prasad Niraula the general secretary, and Baburam Rai the deputy general secretary,

The three secretaries elected are Yukka Kumar Gautam, Mukund Prasad Adhikari, and Anita Gurung, while Kumar Prasad Ghimire has been elected the treasurer. The third national conference of PPAL had begun here on Saturday
