Kathmandu, July 20: Five different committees of the Federal Parliament are meeting today. As per the scheduled agenda, the Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee, the Women and Social Affairs Committee, the Education, Health and Information Technology, the Legislative Management and, Public Policy and the Delegated Legislation Committee are meeting today.
The Law Committee is scheduled to discuss with the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers regarding the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) report, shared the committee secretary Ramhari Thapa.
Similarly, the Women and Social Affairs Committee will discuss the Annual Report of the Madhesi Commission (2080/81). The Education, Health and Information Technology Committee is scheduled to hold a discussion on the principles of the Media Council Bill.
The Legislative Management Committee is scheduled to hold clause-wise discussion on the ‘National Forensic Science Laboratory (Establishment and Operation) Bill, 2081’. The Public Policy and Delegated Legislation Committee is scheduled to discuss the Report on National Parks.

Very heavy rainfall likely in Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki today
Kathmandu, July 20: With monsoon winds impact the length and breadth of the country, there is possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki Provinces as well as in the hilly regions of rest of the provinces.
Furthermore, Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely to occur at many places of hilly regions of the country including Koshi, Madesh, Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali Provinces, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
As the weather remains generally cloudy throughout the country, there are also chances of light to moderate snowfall at some places of the high hilly and mountainous region of the country.
Tonight, the weather will remain generally cloudy throughout the country. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is possible at many places of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudur Pashchim Provinces and at a few places of rest of the country. There are chances of very heavy rainfall at a few places of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudur Pashchim Provinces.
Light to moderate snowfall is likely at some places of the high hilly and mountainous region of the country, adds the Department.

Couple missing after landslide buries house in Parbat
Parbat, July 20: An elderly couple has gone missing after a landslide buried their house in Langdi, Deurali of Modi Rural Municipality-3 this morning.
Chhabilal Bishwakarma, 76, and his wife Bishnumati, 76, went missing after their one-storey house was buried in the incident that took place last night. The couple’s daughter-in-law, Pabitra, 32, managed to escape the landslide by jumping out of the house, shared Santosh BK, ward member of Modi Rural Municipality-3.
According to BK, the locals are continuing the rescue work as a team of police is on the way to the incident spot, said Police Inspector Ram Prasad Sapkota of the District Police Office.
Parbat and surrounding areas have been experiencing heavy rainfall since last night, while the water level and current in the rivers and streams have also scaled up.

High rate of Dengue infection in Chitwan
Narayangadh (Chitwan), July 20: Dengue infection has been confirmed in 3,889 people in the district in the last fiscal year 2024/25.
According to the Public Health Office, 3,020 people, including 1,548 men and 1,472 women, were infected with dengue within Chitwan district. Similarly, 869 people, including 412 men and 457 women, who came from other districts, were infected with dengue.
The highest number of infections was seen in Bharatpur Municipal Corporation, where 1,171 people were confirmed infected. The lowest was in Madi Municipality with 37 infected. One person died due to dengue in the last fiscal year.
During the year, 17,353 people underwent tests for Dengue. Ram KC, Vector Control Inspector of the Public Health Office, said dengue infection was seen in 1,831 people in the previous fiscal year, which was confirmed by tests of 23,840 people.
Dengue fever was first traced in Nepal in 2004 in Chitwan. The infection was confirmed in a Japanese tourist who came to Chitwan that year.
The Public Health Office has stated that the main way to prevent dengue fever is to avoid mosquito bites.

Man run over by backward moving vehicle
Deukhuri (Dang), July 20: A person has died after being accidently run over by a parked vehicle in Deukhuri.
Rajesh Kumar Baniya, 21, of Sunkholi, Lamahi Municipality-5, died this morning in the incident, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Chakra Bahadur Shah of the District Police Office. The incident reportedly took place when a support placed on the rear tire of a pickup (Lu. 3 Cha. 4814) parked in front of his house was removed. The vehicle rolled back ’leaving Baniya seriously injured.
Although he was immediately rushed to Lamahi Hospital, he passed way in course of treatment. An investigation has been launched into the incident, police said.

Heavy rainfall in various parts of the country: 151 mm rainfall recorded in Lumle
Kathmandu, July 20: Heavy to very heavy rainfall has been recorded to have taken place in various parts of the country in the last 12 hours. According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the highest rainfall of 151 mm has been recorded in Lumle, Kaski.
Similarly, 121 mm of rainfall has been recorded in Dhankuta, 130 mm in Sunsari, and 121 mm in Maipokhari, Ilam. The Department has stated that extremely heavy rainfall has been measured in these four places. Heavy rainfall has also occurred in many other districts.
Meteorologist Sanjeev Adhikari said that a weather system causing heavy rainfall is moving towards the central and western regions today. He also said that this trend will continue until tomorrow before gradually disappearing. The monsoon winds are currently affecting across the country.
Other districts that have received heavy rainfall include Sindhupalchowk, Kaski, Parbat, Okhaldhunga, Taplejung, Panchthar, Tanahun, Khotang, Solukhumbu, Sankhuwasabha, Terhathum, Myagdi, and Jhapa. Heavy rainfall is also reported to have taken place in the hilly areas of other districts.
Meanwhile, the Floods Forecasting Division has said that the water level at the Modikhola Hydrometer Station in Parbat district is currently rising near the alert level, and residents living near the riverbanks and coastal areas have been requested to remain alert and exercise caution.
Similarly, the water level in Kankai Mainachuli in Ilam had also reached near the alert level this morning. In the Sardul Khola in Sunsari, the water level crossed the alert level. At 1:20 am, the Budhi Khola Duhabi Hydrometer Station in Sunsari played the siren after the water level crossed the danger level.

Body of man missing after landslide found
Parbat, July 20: The body of a man missing along with his wife after a landslide buried their house in Langdi, Deurali of Modi Rural Municipality-3 has been recovered.

The body of Bishwakarma was found buried by locals and security personnel, said Rabin Bista, Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office. The search for Bishnumati is underway.
