Rainfall likely in five provinces

Kathmandu, July 24: The weather today will remain generally cloudy in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudur Paschim Provinces and partly cloudy in the hilly regions of country. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely to occur at some places of hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudur Paschim Provinces and at a few places of rest of the country.

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology in its early morning bulletin says that there are chances of light rainfall and snowfall at a few places of the high hilly and mountainous region of the country.

Later tonight, the weather will remain generally cloudy in Koshi, Madesh and Bagmati Provinces and partly cloudy in rest of the country. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely to occur at some places of Koshi, Madesh and Bagmati and at a few places of rest of the provinces.

The impact of monsoon winds has weakened as of today, says the Department.

Two bills to be tabled in HoR today

Kathmandu, July 24: The House of Representatives is meeting at 1:00 pm today.

As per the agenda of the meeting, the Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens is scheduled to present a proposal seeking consideration of the house over the ‘Human Trafficking and Transportation (Control) (First Amendment) Bill, 2081’.

Similarly, the Minister for Education, Science and Technology will present a proposal seeking consideration over the Tilganga Eye University Bill, 2081, which originated in the National Assembly.

Furthermore, three parliamentary committees including the International Relations and Tourism Committee under the House of Representatives and the Public Policy and Delegated Legislation Committee and Legislative Management of the National Assembly are meeting today.

The International Relations Committee is scheduled to hold deliberations on the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority Bill, 2081 while a clause-wise discussion on the ‘Water Resources Bill, 2081’ the will take place at the Legislative Management Committee.

The Delegated Legislation Committee will discuss and endorse a report related to the National Parks.

Woman dies of snakebite in Saptari

Rajbiraj (Saptari), July 24: A woman has died of snakebite in Mohanpur, Krishnasawaran Rural Municipality-6 of the district.

Sangita Rai, 50, wife of Indra Bahadur Rai, died in the incident that took place this morning, said Madhav Prasad Kafle, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Area Police Office, Kanchanpur.

11 killed in wild animal attacks in a year

Bharatpur, July 24: In the last fiscal year 2024/2025, 11 people lost their lives to attacks by wild animals including elephants rhinos, and tigers in Chitwan National Park.

The highest number of casualty was due to rhino attacks, with eight people losing their lives to the endangered animal. Similarly, two people lost their lives in attacks by elephant and one due to tiger attack, park’s information officer Abinash Thapa Magar said. During the same period, 41 people were injured due to wild animal attacks. Of the injured, 32 were seriously injured and nine were suffered minor injuries.

People who had gone to collect green fodder, firewood and niguro or fiddlehead fern in the forest inside the part.

In the last five years, 73 people have lost their lives due to wild animal attacks in Chitwan National Park, with 169 people injured.

Imports worth Rs 625 billion and exports worth Rs 101 billion in a year

Birgunj (Parsa), July 24: The Birgunj customs office has recorded an import of Rs 625.9 billion in the last fiscal year 2081/082.

Compared to the previous fiscal year 2080/81, goods worth Rs 82.3 billion  more were imported in the last fiscal year, a rise by 15.14 percent.

The highest amount of import was petroleum products worth Rs 101.8 billion followed by soybean crude oil worth Rs 57.6 billion. In the last fiscal year, machines and its spare parts worth Rs 36.63 billion were imported. Iron and iron-based goods worth Rs 34.41 billion were imported.

In the last fiscal year, there has been an increase not only in imports but also in exports. Birgunj Customs Office Chief Deepak Lamichhane said that there was a significant increase in both imports and exports in the last fiscal year.

Goods worth Rs 101.84 billion were exported. Compared to previous fiscal year, goods worth Rs 70.70 billion more were exported through this border point, recording an increase by 227.09 percent.

The most exported item is refined soybean oil. In the last fiscal year, 291.491,759 liters of refined soybean oil worth Rs 61.45 billion were exported. Likewise, other significant exports included fruit juice and iron and iron-based products

Sisters found dead

Bhadgaun (Bhaktapur), July 24: Two teenage girls living in a rented quarter in Sintitar, Thimi Municipality-9, Madhyapur were found dead this morning.

Menuka Kandel, 17, and her sister Sirjana Kandel, 15, of Panchapuri Municipality-8, Surkhet were found hanging in the passage of the house that they were living in.

They were living in the ground floor of a two-storey house owned by local Niraj Chakradhar, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Nawaraj Dhungana, Chief of Police Circle Thimi.

According to the homeowner, the teenage girls had come to live in the house only two weeks ago.

Police said that further investigation into the incident is underway.

Three farmers electrocuted in a week

Chandrapur (Rautahat), July 24: Three farmers have died of electrocution while irrigating fields in Rautahat in a week. On Wednesday alone, two farmers were electrocuted in their fields.

On Wednesday morning, Rambabu Mukhiya, 40, son of Tulsi Mukhiya, a resident of Madhav Narayan-4, Bishanpurwa, died of electrocution while using an electric motor to irrigate his field, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police at the Area Police Office, Garuda, Rajan Karki. Mukhiya died during treatment at the Provincial Hospital, Gaur.

Similarly, Moktar Dewan, 52, son of Lal Mohammad Dewan of Jamuniya Tol, Kataharia-2, also died of electrocution while irrigating his field. Police have stated that Dewan, who was injured by the electric shock, died during treatment at Grande Hospital in Garuda.

Earlier, on June 27, Narendra Patel alias Golu, the 14-year-old son of Sudhan Raut of Sonarnia, Maulapur-8, also died of electric shock while watering his fields.

This year, due to lack of sufficient rainfall and subsequent drought in the Tarai, farmers are forced to pump out ground water using electric motors for transplanting paddy and irrigating their fields.

Exports reach a historic high: Prime Minister Oli

Kathmandu, July 24: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that exports had reached a historic high in the last fiscal year 2081/2082.

Taking to this social media account this morning, he has stated Nepal has succeeded in exporting goods and services worth Rs 277.3 billion in the fiscal year 2081/2082.

Nepal’s total exports last financial year were only worth Rs 152.38 billion  and this year it have reached a historic high point, with Rs 277.32 billion. Exports have increased by 81.80 percent compared to last year, since the formation of this government, he has said.
