Kathmandu, Aug 13: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that Nepal is exporting 1,000 MW of electricity to India.
Taking to his social media account, Prime Minister Oli shared that Nepal will earn 80.027 billion rupees by exporting the electricity to India.
“We are exporting 1,000 MW of electricity to India. From this, Nepal will earn 80.027 billion rupees,” the Prime Minister has posted on social media.

24- ‘Preparation underway to bring 55 basic hospitals into operation’
Kathmandu, Aug 13: Minister for Health and Population, Pradip Paudel, has shared that the three-tier governments have been moving ahead to bring 55 basic hospitals into operation.
Responding to queries of lawmakers in today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Minister Paudel said programmes have been forwarded in order to bring other basic hospitals handed over to local levels into operation.
Preparation was underway to send doctors and medical equipment to these basic hospitals, he mentioned, claiming that the obligations committed by the ministry were fulfilled on time in a procedural manner.
“Problems have surfaced in bringing some basic hospitals, which were already completed, into operation as procedural issues are still to be addressed”, opined Minister Paudel.
A basic hospital constructed at Sonari Narainapur-4 in Banke district has achieved cent percent physical progress and the hospital is yet to be handed over, the Health Minister argued that the hospital would come into operation once it is handed over.

25- Lawmakers lay emphasis on fiscal discipline
Kathmandu, Aug 13: In view of negative Federal Reserve Fund, the lawmakers have placed emphasis on maintaining fiscal discipline.
Deliberations were made on the major contents of the 62nd report of the Office of the Auditor General in today’s meeting of Federalism Enablement and National Concerns Committee under the National Assembly.
Taking part in the discussion, the Upper House members underscored the need of bringing improvements in the negative status of reserve fund and keeping fiscal discipline.
On the occasion, Committee President Sonam Geljen Sherpa said that the State should work to maintain transparency by lowering financial arrears. “Measures should be explored to lessen the debt over the state treasury fund and local governments should be empowered to reduce arrears”, he noted.
Lawmakers Narayan Dutta Mishra and Kiran Babu Shrestha also echoed the need of introducing reforms in reducing public debt by maintaining financial discipline.
Also on the occasion, NA member Jag Prasad Sharma demanded an end to the corrupt tendency.
Auditor General Toyam Raya highlighted the necessity of discussion on the reform aspects in the report in coming days. He shared that the status of arrears is improving at local level than at the federal level.
“Up to eight percent of arrears remain to be settled at local level whereas it is 30 percent at federal level”, he shared.
Deputy Auditor General Chandrakanta Bhandari said that the exclusive and concurrent rights of the three tiers of government should be implemented with legal clarity.
He shared that virement or transfer of funds accounted for 14.64 percent of the total budget of Rs 1751.3 billion for the fiscal year 2080/81 BS.

26- Power outage is a thing of the past, claims Energy Minister
Kathmandu, Aug 13: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka has said that power outage is now a thing of the past for Nepal, and that the rumors about it are baseless.
Responding to questions raised by lawmakers in today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, he expressed confidence that power outage will no longer occur as temporary obstacles are being overcome, systemic reforms implemented and production is being accelerated.
“There is no possibility of its recurrence. Now, even imagining load shedding has become pointless,” he said.
Minister Khadka pointed out the need to prepare a long-term strategic action plan and work accordingly to increase power exports to neighboring countries. Power is currently being sold to India and Bangladesh and last year alone, 2,380 MW of power was exported to India and 30 MW to Bangladesh. According to him, power worth Rs 17.72 billion is currently being exported while Rs 12.92 billion worth of power is being imported, earning the country a profit of about Rs 5 billion.
Minister Khadka said that the current maximum power demand in the country is about 2,400 megawatts and that electricity production during the rainy season will exceed that demand.
The Energy Minister clarified that the ministry has moved forward by adhering to policy stability, transparency and institutional decision-making processes in the context of long-term infrastructure development and investment mobilization in the energy, water resources and irrigation sectors.

27- State Affairs Committee Chair Khatiwada resigns
Kathmandu, Aug 13: Chairperson of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the House of Representatives, Ramhari Khatiwada, tendered his resignation today.
Khatiwada tendered his resignation to Speaker Devraj Ghimire. It may be noted that Khatiwada had announced to resign from his post during the lower house meeting on Tuesday. Khatiwada said he is resigning on moral grounds, after widespread pressure for him to do so since the report of the parliamentary committee to probe into the alteration of the ‘cooling-off’ period in the Committee’s report on the Civil Service Bill was made public.

28- HoR members stresses on forwarding cyber security bill
Kathmandu, Aug 13: Lawmakers have laid emphasis on the need of forwarding the Information Technology and Cyber Security Bill for its relevance.
During the discussion on the proposal presented seeking consideration on the Information Technology and Cycber Security Bill, 2082 in today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, they opined that the bill was necessary for cyber security.
Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, had tabled the proposal in today’s HoR meeting.
Responding to queries raised by lawmakers, Minister Gurung shared that another bill related to digital platform is at the National Assembly.
He opined that the law moving forward in technology is necessary as research of 6G is underway in Sanghai, adding another law related to artificial intelligence was must.
Taking Lawmakers– Urmila Majhi, Dipa Sharma, Narayani Sharma, Sunita Baral, Ranendra Baraili, Rana Kumari Balamphaki Magar, Hitraj Pandey, Rama Koirala, Thakur Prasad Gaire, Prakash Jwala, Dr Amaresh Kumar Singh, among others put forth their views on the bill.
Taking part in theoretical discussion, they argued that the bill was brought on right time as cyber security was necessary, social media platforms should not be controlled in the name of regulation, human resources should be managed while adopting AI and laws should be made without affecting fundamental rights– right to information and right to privacy.
On the occasion, lawmaker Gyanu Basnet Subedi demanded to count the number of lawmakers, saying the meeting did not have a quorum.
Only 66 lawmakers were present at the time as one-fourth (69) lawmakers had to be present while presenting any proposal as the decision. As a result, the meeting was postponed.The HoR meeting will take place at 1:00 pm tomorrow.

29 – Communications Minister Gurung emphasizes on policy structural reforms for development
Kathmandu, Aug 13: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung has said that the prevailing policy structures have impeded development in the country.
At the fourth quarterly progress review of the last fiscal year 2081/82 and Ministry-level Development Action Committee meeting today, Minister Gurung said enabling environment should be created by reforming policy, rule and legal frameworks.
Likewise, he highlighted the need of bringing reforms in civil administration mechanism and working style for institutional reforms.
The minister recommended making anticipated progress in upcoming performance taking lessons from the past.
Member of the National Planning Commission, Prakash Shrestha stressed the need to carry out performance by optimally utilizing the budget received.
Communications Secretary Radhika Aryal claimed that the ministry has undertaken some crucial policy works.
Joint Secretary at the Ministry, Kosh Hari Niroula presented the work progress details of the ministry at the meeting attended by the heads of the agencies and departments of the ministry.
Speaking at the meeting, Executive Chair of the Dharmendra Jha said that the RSS will be developed as a media research center. “RSS has a long history of its own and it is also documenting the history of journalism.”

30 – Corruption Case filed against Land Revenue Office Chief
Kathmandu, Aug 13: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a chargesheet against Chief of the Land Revenue Office, Bhaktapur, Kumar Acharya in the Special Court, Kathmandu on Tuesday on charges of corruption.
Office Assistant, Tikaram Raut, has also been named in the chargesheet as one of the accused. A team from the CIAA head office in Tangal has taken control of the duo while taking a bribe of Rs. 2.45 million of developing a land ownership certificate in the name of the tenant of the 14.4 ropani of land in Changunarayan Municipality, Bhaktapur, shared Commission’s spokesperson Rajendra Kumar Poudel.
The mobile phone of Acharya and his office assistant and bribe money worth Rs. 2.45 million were seized from the premises of the Land Revenue Office in Bhaktapur.
Meanwhile, the Kathmandu District Court has ordered the release of 19 people including Milan Gurung (Chakre Milan) on bail.
Deepak Kumar Shrestha, Information Officer of the Kathmandu District Court, told RSS that the court has ordered the release of Chakre Milan on a bail of Rs 30,000. Eighteen others have also been asked to be released on different bail amount.
Chakre Milan and members of his gang were arrested Shambala Hotel in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu on July 31.

31 – Energy Minister Khadka, MCC Deputy Vice-President
Wingle meet
Kathmandu, Aug 13: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, and Deputy Vice-President of Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), John Wingle, held a meeting on Wednesday.
On the occasion, Minister Khadka expressed gratitude towards MCC’s support in development of Nepal’s energy sector and lauded the collaboration for MCC project.
He also expressed the belief that with the beginning of MCC project, transmission line of high quality would be constructed and Nepal’s goals on energy development would be fulfilled.
Khadka pointed out the need of moving ahead strengthening bilateral relations for the implementation of MCC project.
Similarly, Deputy Vice-President Wingle urged the Energy Minister to facilitate for the solution of problems of land acquisition and forest area for the implementation of the MCC project.

32- Pokhara Metroplis, Youngsan University, Korea, forge academic collaboration
Gandaki, Aug 13: Pokhara Metropolitan City and Youngsan University in South Korea have signed an agreement for scholarship for the study of technical education.
Mayor Dhan Raj Acharya and Professor Choi Jae-Young of the Youngsan University signed the agreement on Wednesday.
As per the agreement, in the context of educational development, emphasis on international relations and mutual development between the two countries would be laid through academic, cultural and technical support of Pokhara metropolis.
Human resources and information would be exchanged to support the international cooperation in education, tourism and technical sectors as well as there would be partnership between the metropolitan city and the University on educational programmes, visit and virtual education, shared the Metropolitan City.
On the occasion, Mayor Acharya expressed the belief that the University would make necessary facilitation to the students of Pokhara pursuing their education in Korea in their study, social security and minimum employment.
Acharya further said the agreement with the University would also establish student’s access to international scholarship.
Similarly, Professor Choi Jae-Young shared that they were ready to join hands with Pokhara metropolis for educational development.
“Mainly, we are willing to work closely with Pokhara Metropolis on the issues of technical education, human resources and mutual benefit”, he said.

34- Chairperson Yadav for rewriting constitution
Rajbiraj (Saptari), Aug 13: Chairperson of Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), Upendra Yadav has voiced for rewriting the Constitution after amendment, arguing that the main law of the land carries flaws.
At a swearing-in and office assuming programme of the newly-elected district committee held in Rajbiraj of Saptari today, he said the federal democratic republic should be made robust by amending the Constitution that was promulgated 10 years back.
The Constitution has yet to address some of the issues of the Madhesi, Tharu, Musilm, Dalit, indigenous nationalities, and marginalized communities, he claimed, stressing the need of amendment to the Constitution to address the issues.
Noting that a strong government is a must to control corruption, keep good governance and gain public trust, he blamed that the province structure was made powerless and lawless.
