Kathmandu, Aug 25: Despite a large number of universities and colleges established in the country for higher studies, a hefty amount of money is spent for abroad studies by Nepali students.
According to the Current Macroeconomic and Financial Situation of Nepal released by the Central Bank on Sunday based on annual data, travel payments from the country increased 18.1 percent to Rs 223.72 billion, including Rs 138.48 billion for education. “Such payments were Rs 189.43 billion and Rs 125.13 billion respectively in the previous year,” it stated.
According to the Nepal Rastra Bank, the net services income remained at a deficit of Rs 90.94 billion during 2024/25 compared to a deficit of Rs 55.86 billion in the previous year. Under the service account, travel income increased 7.7 percent to Rs 88.66 billion in the review year which was Rs 82.33 billion in the previous year.

02- Parliamentary committee holding its meeting today
Kathmandu, Aug 25: The Legislation Management Committee of the Federal Parliament is holding its meeting today.
The meeting is expected to discuss the draft of the National Forensic Science Laboratory (Establishment and Operation) Bill, 2081, according to the Federal Parliament Secretariat.

03- Imports, exports decrease from Mechi Customs Office in first month of
current FY
Bhadrapur (Jhapa), Aug 25: Both imports and exports from the Kakarbhitta customs point in Jhapa district decreased in the first month of the current fiscal year 2082/83 BS, the customs officials shared.
In the month of Sawan, goods worth Rs 3.69 billion were imported, while such imports were Rs 3.88 billion in the same month in the previous year, Customs Officer Ishwar Kumar Humagain said.
Similarly, goods worth Rs 1.54 billion were exported in the month of Sawan. Last year, the exports from the same months had surpassed Rs 1.80 billion.
However, the revenue collection in the last month increased by Rs 151.8 million compared to the same month of the last fiscal year. Last year, the revenue collection was recorded at Rs 113.2 million.

04- Health workers asked not to stay on leave in Parsa
Birgunj (Parsa), Aug 25: A meeting of the District Health Crisis Management Committee held on Sunday has decided not to approve the leave of the health workers except for the essential cases in view of the cholera outbreak in Birgunj.
The meeting presided over by the Acting Chief District Officer, Suman Kumar Karki, decided to deploy the health workers from the local levels in a centralized way after the detection of cholera in some areas in the city.
Minister for Health and Population of Madesh Province, Satrudhan Prasad Singh, also attended the meeting.
Acting CDO Karki shared that all stakeholders will be coordinated with all the stakeholders for the control and prevention of the cholera outbreak.
Likewise, distribution, management and management of the human resources and logistics received from the federal and province governments would be carried out from the District Health Crisis Management Committee.
Similarly, the local level would carry out the investigations for the source of infection identification of the cholera outbreak, while the federal and province governments would ensure technical assistance for this.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the central security committee also decided to mobilize a team of medical practitioners in the cholera-hit Bijgunj city. The committee meeting chaired by Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak on Sunday decided to this end, directing the line agencies to ensure the teams for their immediate deployment in Birgunj. He directed the Nepali Army, the Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force to pay adequate attention to it.
Likewise, Minister for Health and Population, Pradip Paudel, and Minister for Drinking Water, Pradip Yadav, also discussed the ways to control and prevent the cholera outbreak in Birgunj city.
In the city, arrangements have been made for the immediate treatment of the cholera patients for free of cost at both public and private hospitals.

05- Cash incentives to increase milk production
Gorkha, Aug 25: As an attempt to promote milk production and animal husbandry in Gorkha district, the farmers are being provided with the cash incentive. The Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Service Expert Centre, Gorkha, has allocated Rs 1.5 million for the current fiscal year to distribute to the farmers for milk production.
Chief of the Centre’s Senior Veterinarian Dr Ananta Koirala said that the farmers provided with Rs 5 in cash incentive for per litre of milk.
He said the move is aimed at making the district self-reliant in milk production by encouraging farmers through cash incentive.
Dr Koirala said, “This will further support the farmers.” And the cooperative organizations enlisted in the Centre would be given the responsibility to distribute the cash.
He was of the view that such incentive programmes will encourage farmers towards animal husbandry and hoped that the farmers would rear animals in an organized manner.
Milk produced in the concerned local levels in the district would be collected from the farmers’ doorsteps from the cooperative organizations, which would largely benefit the small farmers, according to Dr Koirala.
The Gorkha Municipality, Palungtar Municipality and Siranchowk Rural Municipality produce a good amount of milk in the district.

06 – Koseli Ghar introduced in Bethanchowk
Kavre, Aug 25: A Koseli Ghar has been brought into operation in the Bethanchowk Rural Municipality, Kavre. The Koseli Ghar was started under the Women Empowerment Programme as a partnership of the Social Development Ministry of Bagmati Province and Bethanchowk Rural Municipality.
Social Development Minister of Bagmati Province Kanchanchandra Bade inaugurated the Koseli Ghar amid a function on Sunday and pledged further assistance for proper management of the Koseli Ghar.
He expressed confidence that the operation of Koseli Ghar would contribute to entrepreneurship development as well as the economic prosperity of the beneficiaries.
The province government would extend its support for the marketing of local goods by collaborating with the local government, Minister Bade said.
Entrepreneurship training, seed money distribution, purchase of local goods produced by women entrepreneurs groups and operation of Koseli Ghar would be supported, it is said.
So far, 110 women have received entrepreneurship training and formed two women entrepreneurs groups as well to get Rs 100,000 each as the seed money.
Chairperson of Bethanchowk Rural Municipality, Bhagawan Adhikari, said that the Koseli Ghar was introduced as a part of women empowerment for their economic prosperity through entrepreneurship development.
The Koseli Ghar has received soaps, flour of locally produced food grains, apples, paper plates or tree leaves plates (Duna and Tapari), mats, bamboo goods and several others.
