SEJAN elects new working committee from 27th AGM

            Kathmandu, Sept 6:  Bhagwat Bhattarai from Setopati.com has been elected as the president of Society of Economic Journalists-Nepal (SEJAN) in the 27th annual general assembly today. Bhattarai bagged 110 votes while his competitors Asha Thapaliya received 41 votes and Bishwas Regmi received 92 votes.

            Similarly, Jeevan Basnet from Karobar Daily has been elected unopposed as the vice chair of the committee. Kamal Kumar Basnet, sub-editor of the National News Agency (RSS), has been elected to the post of general secretary with 139 votes while his rival Achyut Puri from Online Khabar received 104 votes.

            Similarly, Keshu Lamichhane from Ukalo.com has been elected as treasurer with 133 votes while his nearest contestant Mamata Thapa of Annapurna Daily received 108 votes. 

            Shankar Pandit of Himalayan Television elected unanimously as the secretary to the committee.  The newly elected members of the committee are Arjun Tamang, (Tourismpati), Kamal Dhital (Bahrakhari), Bhojraj Bhandari (Corporate News), Raju Baskota (Clickmandu), Sima Tamang (Kantipur Daily).

            The Chief Election Officer Dharmendra Jha had handed over the certificates to the newly elected committee members.

            On the occasion, Jha, also Executive Chairman of RSS expressed his belief that the newly elected executive committee will further enhance the dignity of the SEJAN by raising issues in the economic sector and establishing a strong presence in the Nepali media.

            A total of 266 general members are in SEJAN and 246 votes were cast in the election.
