Myagdi, Nov 10: The initiative to upgrade the Darbang–Muna–Dhorpatan road, which links the centre of Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality, Muna, in Myagdi, is now underway.
A project to pave the road connecting Darbang, the hub of Malika Rural Municipality, with Muna, the centre of Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality, has been launched in collaboration with the Gandaki Province and the federal government. The construction firm that entered into a contract with the Infrastructure Development Office has begun the first phase of road widening at Machchim, Ward No. 7 of Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality, said Gandaki Provincial Assembly member Resham Bahadur Jugjali (Suvin). He was elected from Myagdi 1(B).
“A funding amounting to Rs 929.2 million has been allocated for the enhancement of the Darbang–Muna–Dhorpatan road, which is viewed as an alternative route to the Baglung section of the Mid-Hill Highway,” he stated.
“This project will involve asphalt paving and surfacing on the Darbang–Dharapani (seven kilometers) and Machhim–Muna (four kilometers) sections.” Equipment and labour have been mobilized since last week following a joint survey conducted by the technical teams from the Infrastructure Development Office and the contractor.
Jugjali emphasized that this is the largest and most financially demanding project to date in Myagdi under Gandaki Province. Excluding administrative costs, the project was projected to cost Rs 670 million, and during the competitive bidding process for its execution, a contract was finalized on 11 Ashar 2082 (Nepali Calendar) with the construction company that submitted the lowest bid of Rs 528,053,000.
This upgrade is expected to shorten the travel distance between Pokhara and Kathmandu by 70 kilometers for residents of Mangala Malika and Dhaulagiri rural municipalities in Myagdi, as well as Dhorpatan in Baglung and Eastern Rukum. —-
