Five people involved in vandalism, arson held in Kavre

Kavre, Nov 18: The Nepal Police arrested five people for their alleged involvement in looting, vandalism and arson in Kavre district during the Gen-Z protests of September 9.  

The District Police Office, Kavre, said that the accused ones were involved in damaging and looting public properties, government offices and police buildings too.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and Information Office of District Police Office Rabin Bista said that Ajay Tamang, 21, of Dhulikhel Municipality-3, Bishal Blon, 21, of Khanikhola Rural Municipality-1 and Rabindra Pariyar, 22, and Abhi Sudhakar, 19, of Banepa Municipality were nabbed for their wrongdoings during the Gen-Z protests.

Bista added that Bhim Tamang, 27, of Jiri Municipality-1 in Dolakha district was also held on the same charge.

Earlier, the police in the district had arrested 12 individuals for their alleged involvement in looting, vandalism and arson in Kavre in the Gen-Z protests.

Fugitive prisoners arrested

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police arrested two fugitive prisoners from the Kathmandu Valley. Those arrested fugitives include Gita Lama of Gajuri Rural Municipality-2 in Dhading district and Mangal Narayan Mohan Maharjan of Kathmandu. 

Lama and Maharjan had fled from the Sundhara-based Jagannath Dewal jail during the Gen-Z protests on September 9. 

Lama was jailed on a murder case while Maharjan was convicted for smuggling gold, Senior Superintendent of Police and Spokesperson of CIB Shiva Kumar Shrestha confirmed. Lama was sentenced to jail for 22 years in 2019. Maharjan was jailed for one year and fined Rs 10.8 million for gold smuggling.

It is said that the CIB held Lama from Dhobighat in Lalitpur Metropolitan City-3 and Maharjan from Dhobichaur in Kathmandu.
