Demands of Gen-Z should be addressed, Dr Bhattarai says

            Kathmandu, Nov 23: Former Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai has viewed that Nepal cannot establish its interconnectedness with rest of the world if Nepal’s politics were not restructured.

            Addressing the party unification assembly of Progressive Democratic Party here today, Dr Bhattarai stated that the concerns of the Gen-Z should be addressed to ensure our interconnectedness with the outer world.

            Noting that the country was going through crises, the former Prime Minister pointed out the need for support from all sides to bring things into a normal situation. 

            Dr Bhattarai suggested that the newly-formed Progressive Democratic Party should move ahead by balancing both the self and social character of an individual.

            As shared in the assembly, Dr Bhattarai would remain in the role of a custodian and offer support and recommendations to those in the executive roles.

            Likewise, former minister Ram Karki said the newly-formed party would continue its campaign whether or not elections take place. 

            Similarly, former minister Janardan Sharma read out the party’s commitment paper and shared that a national development authority would be formed under the country’s executive head and a massive campaign would be run against corruption.

            Another former minister Sudan Kirati said that the party carries the content of a communist party, not the form.

            Chair of the assembly, Santosh Pariyar, said that the party would bring all dynamic activists on board.

21-       Earthquake jolts Kaski

            Kathmandu, Nov 23: An earthquake measuring four in the Richter scale occurred in Kaski district at 5:19 this evening. The National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre, Lainchaur, confirmed that the quake jolted the area with its epicenter at Annapurna Rural Municipality-2 in Kaski district.

22-       CIAA files chargesheet against nine for illegally renting school property

            Kathmandu, Nov 23: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Sunday lodged a chargesheet at the Special Court against nine people for illegally renting the public property of Rastriya Secondary School to a private school in Kaski district. 

            CIAA Spokesperson Rajendra Kumar Poudel said that Chairman of School Management Committee Ram Bikram Rana, Committee’s ex-officio and Ward Chairman of Pokhara Metropolitan City-1 Sahara Pradhan and five other members have been accused of taking an unlawful decision to rent the school’s property for 12 years to Anjuli Secondary School, a private school in Pokhara.      

            The CIAA has also filed the case against the private school’s Principal Sunita Kunwar KC and school’s board of directors Raju KC by concluding their involvement in the decision.

            The School Management Committee on March 9, 2024 had decided to rent the school’s property for 12 years in the absence of the member-secretary. The agreement was signed three days after the decision of the School Management Committee.

            Earlier, the Education Division of Pokhara Metropolitan City and the Ward Chairman had directed the School Management Committee to scrap the contract by stating that the contract agreement was illegal.

23-       SC orders release of Durga Prasain

            Kathmandu, Nov 23: The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered to free Durga Prasain, a medical entrepreneur and Coordinator of Rastra, Rastriyata Bachau Abhiyan.

            In a habeas corpus writ petition lodged by Prasain’s son Nirajan, the division bench of Justices Nahakul Subedi and Shree Kanta Paudel ordered to immediately release Prasain.  

            The SC’s order stated that putting Prasain behind the bars only due to his expressions was a violation of the constitutionally given right to freedom of expression. 

            Likewise, the SC has mentioned that further investigations and custody as well as the other processes for taking more time for probe were not required for Prasain in the changing context following the Abhiyan’s agreement with the government on Saturday to launch its activities in a peaceful manner.

            Prasain was arrested from his residence on November 17 from his residence in Sanothimi, Bhaktapur, for the investigation into public security.

24-       Unity essential for change: Chair Sampang

            Taksar (Bhojpur), Nov 23: Chairman of Shram Sanskriti Party and Mayor of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City, Harka Sampang, has said change in country is possible only with collective efforts and unity.

            Chairman Sampang argued without hard work, change is impossible. He said it while addressing a cadres’ meeting and expansion of party organization at Tundikhel in the district on Sunday. All forces’ unity is essential to speed up transformation in the country, he reiterated. 

            Youths are the major workforce in the country, he said, underlining the need for utilizing youths’ power and talents.

            “Even the youths must be aware how and by whom they are being mobilized,” he reminded. Youth’s labour and hard work helps ensure change.

            According to him, all sides’ realization to correct themselves is another measure for meaningful transformation.

25-       Leader Dr Rawal for focusing party on rights and prosperity

            Kailali, Nov 23: Leader of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP), Dr Bhim Rawal, has said his party would be focused on protection of citizen’s rights and economic prosperity. The party was determined to play a leading role in both fronts, he argued.

            Leader Dr Rawal said it during a press conference organized here to share information on his party’s programme scheduled for November 28 in Dhangadhi city. He argued that various leftist forces had united and stood together after the country witnessed a moment to get liberated from adverse situation.

            The leader further said NCP was organizing nationwide programmes to inform people on the party unification. The party’s message would be launched from Sudurpaschim Province.

            A main organizing committee for the programme has been formed under leader Dr Rawal’s leadership here. He also took stock of the preparation made for the event.

            After the event of unification message in province, all districts and local levels- palika and ward- would have similar events within Mangsir month, it was informed.

26-       No alternative to election: Coordinator Dahal

            Trishuli (Nuwakot), Nov 23: Coordinator of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, has said election is the only option to end present political adversity.

            Inaugurating the Ghalegaon Cultural Building at Panchakanya rural municipality-3 of Nuwakot on Sunday, Coordinator Dahal, who is also the former Prime Minister, argued for the restoration of citizens’ rights, election is the best solution.

            He, however, said national political unity is essential for holding the election in time.

           
            “Not only communist forces but all other political parties, including the Nepali Congress, should concentrate on election. If the time for March 5 election is not enough for preparation, it can be held from coming Baisakh to Jestha (by mid June 2026),” he said, underlining the need for liberating the country from instability.

            Coordinator Dahal further expressed belief that even the CPN UML would involve in election preparation because other parties, including the Nepali Congress, had been ready for it. “Focusing election is the only measure to seek solution,” he reiterated.

27-       Minister Kharel feted at his school in Dolakha

            Charikot, Nov 23: The Shree Kalinag Secondary School in Dolakha has felicitated Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagdish Kharel, on Sunday.

            Minister Kharel had got his high school education from this school. He received a grand welcome from the district people.

            The Minister was urged to play a vital role in maintaining good governance with zero tolerance to corruption.

            On the occasion, Minister Kharel reminded that he was inducted to the government made on the back up of Gen Z protest, which raised voice for change in the country. So, he was committed to good governance. “As I assumed the ministry, I’ve seen further anomalies, so it may take time for cleaning. However, I’m firm to work for good governance,” he shared.

            The Gen Z had voiced for opportunity, education, health, guarantee of jobs and end of corruption, he said, adding that he would try his best to deliver as per Gen Z spirit.

            The Minister said he had not forgotten his birthplace- Sunkhani of Kalinchowk-8 in Dolakha district. However, limiting oneself to a particular place is not just and enough at such situation, Kharel argued.

            He urged the guardians and teachers not to involve in politicizing education and schools, but devote to students’ welfare.

            Minister Kharel took opportunity to make aware the parents not get swayed by political leaders and ruin future of family and children. Good persons can be picked by breaking the illusion- ‘all parties are bad’.

28-       Election Security: Home Ministry preparing purchase of vehicles for security bodies

            Kathmandu, Nov 23: In a bid to conduct the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) elections in a free, fair and peaceful manner, the Ministry of Home Affairs has advanced the preparations for the purchase of vehicles for all three security bodies.

            The Home Minister’s Secretariat stated that processes for the procurement of vehicles have advanced in a smooth manner after getting a nod from the Finance Ministry.

            The processes for the purchase of vehicles for security agencies have reached the final stage after the Finance Ministry released resources.

            During the Gen-Z protests, a large number of vehicles of the security bodies were destroyed in vandalism, and arson.

            The Finance Ministry has approved Rs 351.1 million for the purchase of 156 vehicles for the Nepal Police. Likewise, an additional of Rs 453 million of budget is also approved for buying an additional 106 vehicles.

            As shared by the officials from the Home Ministry, 75 pick-up vans, a prisoner van, 41 electric vehicles, 10 escort pick-up vans and vehicles for 28 offices would be purchased. 

            Similarly, the Finance Ministry has ensured resources to buy 59 vehicles for the Armed Police Force, Nepal. Those 59 vehicles include three for disaster response, 50 Bolero pick-up vans, three riot control trucks and two ambulances. 

            Furthermore, the Finance Ministry has released Rs 28 million for the procurement of some vehicles for the National Investigation Department, according to the Home Ministry.

29-       Chair Yadav wants fear-free atmosphere for voting

            Kathmandu, Nov 23: Chairman of the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal, Upendra Yadav, has urged the government to create the atmosphere for election in a way people would feel confident for voting.

            Addressing a party gathering organized at Durgabhagawati rural municipality-4 of Rautahat district on Sunday, Chairman Yadav said although the election was announced for coming March 5, atmosphere for it was awaited.

            The government must prepare the atmosphere where people feel safe to voting. “The morale of police persons has declined record low in history. If the police persons employed for election security are not morally upheld, it would be difficult to manage election,” he expressed worry, underscoring the strengthening of election security.

            He further argued that it would be undemocratic to hold election by mobilizing military. It will be a wrong practice in deed to mobilize army in election, Chair Yadav added.

            In his view, the prolonged incumbency of particular parties and leaders- 35 years in position after restoration of democracy- caused the Gen Z protest. He termed the forthcoming election as a bellwether.

            Also speaking at the programme presided over by JSP Rautahat Chair Raju Yadav were- central Vice Chair of party, Govinda Chaudhary, and leaders Yogendra Raya Yadav, Sheikh Fulbabu, Kishori Yadav, Puja Chaudhary, Shova Devi, Kiran Thakur and Raj Kumar Das.

            The leaders spoke on the national politics following the Gen Z protest, party activities and future course.
