Myagdi, Dec 1: A truck carrying cement (Ga 2 Kha 0840) from Bhairahawa to Darwang fell 60 meters below the road into the Myagdi River at Phaparkhet. In the incident that took at around 2:30 this morning, truck driver, Govinda Bahadur Khamcha, 34, of Madanpokhara, Tansen Municipality-8, Palpa, was rescued.

Security personnel have rescued the driver who fell into Myagdi River along with his truck in Phaparkhet, located on the border of Beni Municipality-4 and Mangala Rural Municipality-2 along the Beni-Darwang road, Police Inspector Sagar Timilsina said.

Driver Khamcha has sustained injures in the incident and is undergoing treatment at the Provincial Hospital, Beni. The driver’s condition is out of danger. According to the police, the truck was carrying 340 sacks of cement, of which some fell into the river while some are stuck on the cliff below the road.

The Phaparkhet section of the Beni-Darwang road connecting Mangala, Malika and Dhawalagiri rural municipalities with the district headquarters Beni Bazaar has been repeatedly blocked by landslides during the rainy season. A cement-laden truck had also fallen off the road at the same location last late October.
