Preparation on to call Bagmati Province Assembly meeting soon

Published Date : December 20, 2025

Bagmati, Dec 20: The Bagmati province government has initiated a preparation in a way to call the Bagmati Province Assembly meeting on the third week of Poush (30 December 2025 to 5 January 2026).

With the pressure mounting from the opposition parties, the province government has stepped up its groundwork to convene the meeting in the stated time.

Chief Minister of the Bagmati government, Indra Kumar Baniya informed, “Preparation are underway to convene the Province Assembly meeting up to 5 January 2026. The Province Assembly hall is at shambles due to arson and vandalism in course of the Gen Z protests. Preparation is on to conduct the meeting at the hall of the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers in a temporary manner”.

Chief Minister Baniya shared that the Deputy Speaker and Presidents of thematic committees under the Province Assembly are holding discussions as part of the meeting preparation.

The opposition parties representing the Bagmati Province Assembly have been pressing for immediately summoning the winter session of the province assembly.

It may be noted that the post of the Speaker has remained vacant after Province Assembly Speaker Bhuwan Kumar Pathak had officially resigned from the post on last September 17 following the Gen Z uprising.

The Bagmati Province Assembly meeting has not convened for the past four months with the claim from both the ruling parties, Nepali Congress and CPN (UML), for the post.

On the recommendation of the province government, Province Chief Deepak Prasad Devkota had prorogued the province assembly session on last November 18. —
