December 25: Christmas being celebrated today

Kathmandu, Dec 25: The Christian community is celebrating the Christmas festival, commemorating the birthday of Jesus Christ today.

Christ was born in Bethlehem, Israel. The day is being observed in memory of Christ’s message of hope, love and salvation, according to Chairman of Nepal Christian Federation, CB Gahatraj. He added it is also known as the love day, peace day and liberation day.

The Federation also began marking the Day with fanfare in Nepal since 2063BS.

A Christmas Festival-2025 is being organized with the participation of government representatives, dignitaries and human rights defenders in the federal capital, Kathmandu today.

The government has given a public holiday today. Thamel, Baudha, Pokhara and Sauraha are major places that see special gatherings on Christmas Day in Nepal.

The Federation claims there are 3 million Christians and over 13,000 churches in Nepal.

President Paudel extends Christmas greetings

President Ramchandra Paudel has extended best wishes on the occasion of Christmas, a festival of Christian community, today. He wished the festival inspired everyone to foster peace, love and harmony among Nepalis.

The festival would help strengthen a national unity in Nepal which is a country of diversity, the Head of State said, adding that the festival like Christmas also fosters cultural identity and religious faith. Tolerance lies in the community with diverse faiths, he reminded.

The Christian people celebrate Christmas (December 25) amid fanfare every year. Various sorts of programmes are also organized to observe the Christ Day in Nepal, the President informed.

Vice President Yadav extends best wishes on Christmas

Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav has extended best wishes to all Nepali sisters and brothers in the country and abroad on the occasion of the Christmas Day today. He wished peace, prosperity and happiness to all.

Issuing a message of best wishes, Vice President Yadav viewed the festival bears the message of peace, compassion, love and coexistence. Such festival helps foster humanity, tolerance and social goodwill, Yadav reminded.

“Nepal’s constitution has ensured equality, religious freedoms and social justice.

Nepal is a multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, multi-religious and multi-cultural country. So various festivals, religions and cultures have strengthened national identity,” Vice President Yadav said, adding that such festivals further reflect unity in diversity.

Christmas is celebrated on December 25 every year in commemoration of Christ’s birth day.  The festival has religious, social and cultural values.

In recent years, Christmas is being celebrated with fanfare in Nepal as well. The Vice President urged everyone to utilize the festival also as an opportunity to strengthen social justice, inclusion and equality.

Nepal government has given a public holiday today.
