Kathmandu, Dec 27: The newly appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs, Balananda Sharma, has said the ministry would forge cooperation with neighbouring and friendly countries. Cooperation could be sought on election-related issues as well, he added.
Assuming the office at the ministry in Singha Durbar on Friday, Minister Sharma reminded that it is his duty to ensure proper engagement whenever cooperation is required. “Our two neighbours and other friendly nations are emerging countries. We should learn from their experiences and insights,” he said, adding that he was optimistic of the environment conducive for collaborative progress.
Earlier, Minister Sharma took the oath of office and secrecy before President Ramchandra Paudel at Sheetal Niwas. Prime Minister Sushila Karki had appointed Sharma as the Foreign Minister.
With the latest expansion, the Karki-led government has now expanded to 15 members.
