Published Date : December 30, 2025

Kathmandu, Dec 30: Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav has said that cultural festivals like Tamu Lhosar play a significant role in promoting mutual understanding, bonding, unity, and social goodwill.

In his message of best wishes today on the occasion of Tamu Lhosar, the major festival of Nepal’s indigenous Tamu (Gurung) community, the Vice President wished for peace, happiness, prosperity, and good health for all Nepali sisters and brothers, both at home and abroad.

He stressed that the festival is based on the belief that it marks the lengthening of days and creates a favourable environment for agricultural activities, strengthening the connection between nature and life.

Tamu Lhosar also marks the start of the New Year for the Tamu (Gurung) community, and the Vice President stated how it helps in preserving and highlighting the unique culture, traditions, and identity of the Gurung people.

The rituals performed, the preparation of traditional dishes, the display of cultural dances and music, and the folk duets sung at Rodhighar all play a vital role in keeping the cultural and religious practices, as well as the identity and status of the Gurung community, alive and intact, he added.
