RPP unveils election manifesto

            Kathmandu, Feb 14: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has released its election manifesto in preparation for the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) elections scheduled for March 5.

            RPP Chairman Rajendra Lingden presented the election manifesto at an event at the party’s central office in Dhumbarahi today.

            The party’s election manifesto focuses on promoting prosperity through political stability, good governance, economic reforms and social justice in the country.

            Furthermore, the manifesto has emphasized capital formation, sustainable development, education, accessible health care service, social security and youth-oriented production and job creation by highlighting the party’s vision for political stability, effective governance and transparency in public administration.

            On the occasion, RPP leader Rajaram Shrestha noted that a strategic roadmap was outlined to elevate the country into a middle-income status by 2087 BS. The party’s proposal includes initiatives for poverty alleviation, technological advancement, infrastructure development, urban planning and productivity improvement as well as effective public service delivery.

            The manifesto asserts that national independence, integrity, unity, sovereignty, and the safeguarding of natural, religious, and cultural heritage, as well as national security, will constitute the party’s core policies. It aims to contribute 82 percent to the GDP of the national economy and 77 percent to capital formation through sectors such as water resources, tourism, agriculture and information technology.

            Furthermore, the party has pledged to establish a Vedic Sanatan Dharma (religion)-oriented to the Hindu nation with a two-tier of governance.

18-       NC would accept people’s verdict, Spokesperson Chalise says

            Patan, Feb 14: Nepali Congress (NC) Spokesperson Devraj Chalise has stated that the NC would accept the people’s verdict as a responsible democratic political party, adding that the country’s future was linked to the NC.

            At a news conference organized at the NC central office on Saturday, Spokesperson Chalise shared that his party would go to the grassroots level with a spirit for a reliable future after reviewing the current status.

            “The major contents of publicity would be about the revised NC and pro-public administration. Disappointments shared on social site platforms and the votes in the ballot papers are different,” the NC Spokesperson added.

            He also shared that the NC was soliciting public aspirations for the ways to ensure corrections and reforms in the party.

            Chalise informed that the NC was going to organize a mass meeting in Janakpur on February 18.

            Likewise, he said that the NC has huge respect to the election code of conduct issued by the Election Commission and added that the NC would conduct its publicity campaigns in a dignified way by visiting the voters at their doorsteps. 

            Similarly, the NC Spokesperson said that the NC would unveil its election commitment paper at 2:00 pm on Sunday.

19-       Devotees urged to avoid ornaments in time of paying homage to Pashupatinath temple

            Kathmandu, Feb 14: The Nepal Police issued a 13-point appeal to the devotees visiting the Pashupatinath temple for their security on the occasion of Mahashivaratri festival.

            Spokesperson at the District Police Range Kathmandu, Superintendent of Police Pawan Kumar Bhattarai said that the devotees have been urged not to visit the Pashupathinath temple by wearing ornaments as well as carrying important and expensive goods as the cases of theft and robbery could take place.

            The Kathmandu Police has asked the devotees not to use prohibited goods such as plastic bags, cups and plates at Pashupatinath.

            Similarly, devotees have been requested to make necessary support and coordination to keep temple premises clean and help physically-challenged persons, senior citizens to help them offer worship to Pashupatinath, to remain alert from pickpockets, to contact health camp if pilgrims develop health issues.

            Arrangements for any special type of ticket or pass to visit Pashupatinath has not been made this year, so devotees have been requested to stay in line to visit the temple in a systematic manner, he added.

20-       Two killed in Palpa road accident

            Tansen (Palpa), Feb 14: Two persons died in a road accident occurred at Tinau Rural Municipality-3 along the Siddhartha Highway on Saturday.

            The deceased has been identified as Milan Sarki, 31, of Kaligandaki Rural Municipality in Gulmi district while the identity of another deceased is yet to be ascertained, said Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Hom Prakash Chaudhary.

            The accident took place when a motorcycle (Lu 49 Pa 7795) heading towards Palpa from Butwal collided with a tipper (Lu 2 Kha 1883) coming from the opposite direction.

            The two died in course of treatment at the Lumbini Province Hospital. Police have arrested the tipper driver.

21-       NC has firm determination to bring about transformation in the country, Gagan Thapa asserts

            Kathmandu, Feb 14: Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that his party has thoughts, determinations and plans to bring about transformation in the country.

            During a meeting with the voters in Sarlahi constituency no. 4 on Saturday, NC President Thapa said that NC was in the election with the planning and preparations to complete the unfinished works in the country.

            “There has been a newness in the NC after the second special national convention. This new congress (NC) has planning, excitement and determination. We have learnt from the past. So, we are clear what we should do in the coming days,” President Thapa added. 

            On the occasion, President Thapa viewed that the private sector would be encouraged to create employment to retain the youth workforce within the country.

            For this, an investment-friendly environment should be created through policies, according to the NC President.

            Meanwhile, NC President welcomed Constituent Assembly (CA) Member and leader of Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal Kedarnandan Chaudhary and other leaders into the NC.

            At a programme organized at Balara Municipality-9, Chaudhary, JSP Nepal leaders Manish Kumar Mishra, Bina Sinha and several other leaders from different parties joined the NC.

22-       NC takes significant steps towards national transformation: Gen Secretary Paudel

            Kathmandu, Feb 14: Nepali Congress General Secretary Pradeep Paudel has said that his party is now poised to lead the country towards transformation.

            In a gathering with party members and supporters organized by the Nepal Students Union (NSU) Gorkha-Kathmandu Liaison Committee here today, Paudel emphasized that the revived NC was committed to unifying the party and enacting changes in the nation.

            Now, this transformed Nepali Congress is ready to transform the country. As a result, this time, everyone is encouraged to support the party, Paudel said.

23-       Home Minister Aryal enquires about security arrangements in Pashupati area

            Kathmandu, Feb 14: Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal reached the Pashupatinath Area this evening on the eve of the Mahashivaratri festival and inquired about the security arrangements made for devotees there.

            On the occasion, Treasurer of Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) Shreedhar Sapkota briefed Home Minister Aryal about the ongoing preparations.

            Minister Aryal was accompanied by Home Secretary Raj Kumar Shrestha, chiefs of security bodies, Chief of Security and Coordination Division of the Ministry, Chief District Officer of Kathmandu and other high-ranking officials of the ministry.

            In course of briefing about security arrangements, Chief of Kathmandu Police Ramesh Thapa shared that a total of 6,000 security personnel from the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Nepal and National Investigation Department would be assigned in the Pashupatinath Area.

            A total of 1,200 security personnel would be deputed in each shift, he added.

            Similarly, a help desk has been established in coordination with local levels, PADT, Nepal Scout and security bodies as well as police personnel in plain clothes would be mobilized to curb possible cases of robbery, theft, drug abuse and misbehaviour, shared Chief Thapa.

            Minister Aryal directed the bodies concerned to make arrangements for devotees for easy and smooth visit of devotees, while ensuring total arrangements for security provisions.  

            According to the PADT, around 700,000 devotees are expected to pay homage to Pashupatinath on the occasion of the Shivaratri festival this year. All four doors of Pashupatinath temple would remain open from 2:00 am on Sunday in order to facilitate pilgrims for their easy homage.

24-       Aaha Rara Gold Cup: Host Sahara Club enters semifinals

            Kaski, Feb 14: The host Sahara Club has entered the semifinals of Aaha Rara Pokhara Gold Cup Football Tournament taking place in Pokhara.

            In the quarterfinals match held at the Pokhara Stadium on Saturday, Sahara Club made it to the semifinals by defeating Nepal Police Club with 6-5 in sudden death.

            Nepal Police Club’s captain Ram Baji scored a goal at the 49th minute but Mukunda Kumar Neure of the Sahara Club equalized the match, making the first goal for the team at the 61st minute.

            The match had to go for a penalty shootout after both teams did not score any additional goals in the given 90 minutes and also in the additional time. 

            In the penalty shootout, both teams scored four goals each and the match entered the sudden death. In the sudden death, Nepal Police Club’s Ram Baji was able to score a goal while Dhirendra Shah failed to score.

            For the Sahara Club, both players scored goals in the sudden death. Three foreign teams and nine Nepali teams have been participating in the tournament taking place till February 21. The winning team would get Rs 1,401,000 while the first runner-up team would receive Rs 701,000.

25-       Janakpurdham, set to host vibrant literature festival

            Janakpur, Feb 14: The final preparations for the Janakpurdham Literature, Arts, and International Drama Festival–2082 BS, set to commence on February 15, are now in full swing, the organizer said.

            During a press conference held today, Jeevanath Chaudhary, the Chairman of the Maithili Development Trust, announced that the preparations for the festival’s fifth edition have reached the final phase.

            He shared that the event is being organized by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Madhesh Province in collaboration with the Trust and Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City.

            On the occasion, Chairman Chaudhary said that the festival will feature extensive discussions on 20 diverse topics, including arts, literature, politics, social and economic issues, and history, alongside exhibitions showcasing paintings, books and Mithila cuisines.

            “Scholars from both Nepal and India, along with singers and drama troupes, will grace the festival,” he stated.

            “The Trust has consistently honored language, literature, culture, and arts. The festival’s highlights will include cultural parades with tableaux, an inauguration ceremony, public speaking contests at schools, poetry recitals, folk dance competitions, Mithila painting contests, workshops and exhibitions on Mithila painting, theatrical performances, and various other cultural events.

26-       Planning Boys clinches 26th Buddha Subba Gold Cup title

            Dharan (Sunsari), Feb 14: Planning Boys United, Kathmandu, has clinched the title of the 26th International Invitational Budha Subba Gold Cup Football Tournament.

            In the final match held at Dharan Stadium on Saturday, Planning Boys won the title by defeating Church Boys United 1-0.

            In the first half, both teams did not score any goal. Pratap Singh Rai of Planning Boys scored a goal at the 63th minute of the match. The goal scored by Rai became decisive to clinch the title after Church Boys could not score another goal.

            Church Boys became the first runner-up for the second consecutive time while Planning Boys won the title in its first participation in the tournament.

            With the title, Planning Boys received Rs 1 million while the first runner-up team Church Boys got Rs 500,000 as prize.

            Similarly, Pujan Thapa of Planning Boys was announced the ‘Man of the Match’ and received Rs 10,000.

            Pratap Singh Rai of Planning Boys was awarded with the Best Player. He received a scooter.  Likewise, Planning Boys’ Yogesh Dhimal was announced as the Best Goalkeeper while Nigma Ghising became the Best Defender as well as Rohan Karki and Abhiyomi Gosh of Church Boys were announced as the Best Midfielder and the Best Striker respectively.

            They received Rs 25,000 each.  The highest scorers of the Tournament—Pratap Singh Rai of Planning Boys, Aron Thapa and Rajesh Dahal of Jhapa-11 were awarded with Rs 12,000 each.
