Kathmandu, Feb 23: At least 17 persons have died and other 24 injured when a passenger-ferrying bus heading to Kathmandu from Pokhara met with an accident in Dhading early this morning.
The bus (Ga 1 Kha 1421) plunged into the Trishuli River off the Prithvi Highway in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-5, Bhainsigauda at around 1.30 am on Monday morning.
The bodies of 17 people who died in the accident have been recovered so far, informed Bishnu Prasad Bhatta, spokesperson of the Armed Police Force (APF).
He further shared that 24 injured were rescued and rushed to various hospitals for treatment. Identities of the deceased and injured have yet to be established. Likewise, the cause behind the accident has also not yet determined.
Rescue operation is underway at the accident site in coordination among all three security agencies. For the rescue operation, a team with divers from the APF Nepal Disaster Management Unit at Adamghat has been mobilized, he informed.
APF’s DSP Sunil Giri from the Disaster Management Training School, Kurintar is leading the command for rescue efforts.

02- 10 days to HoR elections: Local people’s representatives urged not to
involve in election publicity
Kathmandu, Feb 23: The Election Commission (EC) has urged the people’s representatives of the local level not to involve in the election publicity campaigns.
In order to keep the free, fair, impartial, transparent, fearless and economized environment for the upcoming March 5 House of Representatives (HoR) elections, the EC has made the plea to the locally-elected representatives.
Citing reference of the implementation of the Election Code of Conduct, 2082 BS, the EC has reminded the responsibility of the concerned stakeholders to strictly comply with the code.
According to the EC, it has been monitoring whether or not the political parties, candidates and concerned are fully complying with the election code of conduct.
The commission has expressed serious concern over complaints and grievances received that some local representatives participated in the promotion of political parties and candidates contrary to the election code.
According to the code related provisions, local executive office-bearers may participate in election campaigns of their respective political parties in local levels other than the one they were elected, yet there is a clear provision that they cannot use government resources and facilities.
The EC has cautioned the local people’s representatives not to engage in poll publicity campaign in a way to contravene the existing code.

03- Trishuli bus plunge: 17 including two foreigners dead; rescue
operation over
Malekhu (Dhading), Feb 23: At least 17 people, including two foreigners died in a bus accident nearby Charaundi in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-7, Dhading along the Prithvi Highway early this morning.
The Kathmandu-bound bus (Ga 2 Kha 1421) from Pokhara had plunged into the Trishuli River.
Among the deceased include 11 men and two women. Of two foreign nationals dead in the accident one is man and another woman, it is informed.
As many as 44 passengers were on board the bus. Some 26 injured were rescued and sent to various hospitals for treatment.
The rescue operation has completed in the accident site. Some injured are being treated in local hospitals while most were sent to Kathmandu.
Personnel from all three security agencies along with locals had involved in the rescue operation.

04 – Income Rs 1.4 million generated from sale of recycled waste products
Damauli (Tanahun), Feb 23: Byas Municipality in Tanahun has generated income Rs 1.4 million from the sale of waste products in first seven months of the current fiscal year.
During the period from mid-July 2025 to mid-February 2026, the municipality has earned Rs 1,450,611 from the sale of recycled waste products.
Chief Administrative Officer Sukadev Lamsal informed that the municipality earned the income from the sale of garbage and glass items.
Facing the challenge of waste management, the municipality has started collecting segregated waste from households.
Lamsal explained that biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste is collected separately, and income is generated by selling sellable waste.
He said, ‘Collecting all waste in one place causes problems, so biodegradable are collected in a separate vehicle and non-biodegradable in another.’
Lamsal mentioned that selling waste has helped the municipality increase its internal resources.
Byas Municipality mayor Baikuntha Neupane said they have been segregating biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste from the very beginning of collection, and even within non-biodegradable waste, different items like glass, plastic, and paper are being separated and compressed with the use of machines.
The municipality has educated families, wards and school leaderships within the municipality on waste segregation methods.
The municipality is selling non-biodegradable waste such as paper, glass, and plastic collected from its office premises.

05- Trishuli-plunged bus departed Pokhara at 7 pm
Gandaki, Feb 23: It is revealed that the passenger bus that met with an accident in Dhading early this morning had departed Pokhara at 7.00 pm on Sunday.
According to Chairperson of Prithvi Highway Bus Operation Company Ain Kumar Sai, the bus of Machhapuchchhre Tours and Travels (Ga 2 Kha 1421) carrying 34 passengers had left Pokhara at 7.00 pm.
He informed that the bus owner Omkumar Shrestha of Jamune, Tanahun was also on board the bus.
According to the information provided by the police, 17 people travelling on the bus have so far died.
The employees of Prithvi Highway Bus Operation Company have also reached the incident site from Malekhu to gather further information about the incident.
Police informed that driver of the bus, Sujit Nepali, and his condition is still unknown. According to him, the injured are being treated at trauma centres in Kathmandu hospitals and some at local hospitals. —
