Gorkha road mishap: Death toll rises to seven with eight injuries

            Gorkha, March 14: The total number of deaths in the Gorkha micro bus accident reached seven with eight others injured, police confirmed.

            Seven people died on the spot when a micro bus plunged 200 meters off the road at Kantar of Sahid Lakhan Rural Municipality-3 in Gorkha district this evening.

            The microbus with registration plate number Ba Pra 01-006 Kha 8430 was carrying passengers who were returning after offering worship at the Manakamana Temple.

            Superintendent of Police Bharat Bahadur BK, the Head of the District Police Office in Gorkha, said five men and two women died in the accident.

            Superintendent of Police BK stated that all eight injured passengers were rushed to the Aanbukhaireni Hospital in Tanahun.

Nepal Pharma Expo concludes after showcasing state of art manufacturing technology

            Kathmandu, March 14: The three-day Nepal Pharma Expo 2026, organised by the Association of Pharmaceutical Producers of Nepal (APPON), has concluded.

            With the main theme, ‘Innovation in Pharma, Health for Tomorrow’, the expo was held on March 12-14.

            This is the 10th edition of expo, which APPON has been organising every two years. President of APPON, Biplab Adhikari, said that this expo was organised to assure that world-class and quality medicines are produced in Nepal.

            He said, “We have organised the expo to inform the public about the kind of technologies developed to manufacture medicines in the global context. We are making Nepali medicines by adopting newly invented technologies.”

            Adhikari also urged people not to have any doubts about the quality of medicines produced in Nepal.

            Shailesh Baidya, the media coordinator of the Expo, stated that the Expo was organised to show the public that medicines are being manufactured in Nepal according to international standards and quality.

            According to him, more than 25,000 people have visited the expo in three days. The expo had more than 200 exhibition stalls, and of these, more than 90 percent were run by foreign and multinational companies.

            At the Expo the latest raw materials, packaging materials, and state-of-the-art machinery available in the global market were displayed, along with the progress and production of the domestic pharmaceutical industry.

17-       LMC inaugurates new disability-friendly administrative building

            Patan (Lalitpur), March 14: The Lalitpur Metropolitan City has unveiled a cutting-edge administrative building designed to be accessible for individuals with disabilities.

            The newly inaugurated ‘Block C’ building, which will also house the Administrative Office of Lalitpur-12, is now operational. During a ceremony today, the metropolitan mayor, Chiribabu Maharjan, officially opened the facility. He shared that this location will serve not only Ward Office No. 12 but also two significant branches of the metropolitan, enhancing service delivery to local residents.

            “We faced numerous challenges during the building’s construction, but we successfully navigated issues ranging from legal hurdles to land usage rights to reach this point,” he remarked. To date, the Metropolitan City has completed the construction of three administrative buildings and 23 modern ward office facilities.

            Mayor Maharjan emphasized the city’s commitment to delivering citizen-friendly services through technological advancements. He assured that every effort would be made in the future to ensure high-quality and effective service provision.

            Deputy Mayor Manjali Shakya Bajracharya noted that five ward office buildings, including those for Ward. 5, 9, 14, and 16, are still pending construction, and she affirmed that the Metropolitan City is prioritizing these projects for swift completion.

            The six-story building spans an area of 2,244.41 square meters. According to Pradeep Paudel, head of the Infrastructure Department of the LMC, Rs 119 million was allocated for the project.

18-       Greater Pashupat Area Walk to spread message of keeping Bagmati River pure and clean

            Kathmandu, March 14: Preparations are afoot for the Greater Pashupat Area Walk to be organized to spread the message of keeping the Bagmati River, which has been getting polluted for over four and a half decades, clean and pure so that the waters of the holy river can be used for the ritual of bathing the Pashupatinath deity.

            This information was shared at a press conference and academic discourse organized here today. It was informed that the ‘Brihat Pashupat Kshetra Padayatra (Greater Pashupat Area Walk)’ as well as the Sixty-four Siddha Linga Pilgrimage, is being organised with the aim of highlighting the greatness of Lord Pashupatinath and the Pashupati area as well as the significance of the sacred Bagmati River.

            Swami Ramanananda Giri, the head of Mahesh Sannyas Ashram and chairman of Mahesh Sanskrit Gurukulam, said on the occasion that the main objective of the Greater Pashupat Area Walk cum Pilgrimage is to awaken all Sanatanis and Nepalis to the uniqueness of Pashupatinath, Pashupatakshetra and the Bagmati River.

            According to him, the pilgrimage is being organised with the purpose of seeking forgiveness and atonement from Lord Pashupatinath and the Bagmati for the pollution of the Bagmati River.

            It is said that the grand Pashupat Padayatra will be inaugurated at Pashupati Shankaracharya Matha on March 29.

            A special worship of Pashupatinath and aarti of the Bagmati river will be solemnized on the same day. On the 30th of March, the Padayatra pilgrimage will be commenced from the Pashupati area towards Adilinga Kuseshwar. Swami Giri mentioned that the sacred Pashupati pilgrimage will begin with the darshan of Adilinga Kuseshwar Mahadev.

            He informed that after returning from visiting and a worshipping Bhimeshwar in Dolakha from Kusheshwar, there are plans to also undertake a trek to visit the Shivalingas in areas such as Sindhuli, Nuwakot, Dhading, Makwanpur, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kavrepalanchok, and Janakpur.

            According to him, it is estimated that the pilgrimage to the sacred sites in 10 districts of Bagmati Province will be completed in at least 35–40 days.

            Pandit Kapildev Subedi, the coordinator of the Padayatra, said that this type of pilgrimage to the 64 Shivalingas is being undertaken now since the reign of King Pratap Malla, who reigned from 1641 to 1674, as the eighth Malla king of Kantipur (Kathmandu). He is known as a “culturally and economically” pivotal figure who fostered arts, literature, and trade with Tibet.

            Shyam Krishna Subedi, secretary of the Padayatra Organizing Committee, stated that out of 64 Shivalingas, 24 are located in Kathmandu.

19-       Full details of those injured in Gen-Z Movement made public

            Kathmandu, March 14: Information regarding those injured during the Gen-Z movement on September 8 and 9 has been made public.

            Dr Prakash Budhathoki, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, said the information was compiled based on the names gathered from hospitals that provided treatment to the injured. He reported that a total of 2,638 individuals received treatment for injuries at 99 hospitals nationwide during the movement.

            “We collected information about the injured ones from all hospitals that offered care during the event.” The release of the comprehensive details of the injured was postponed due to late submissions from some hospitals.

            Currently, all information regarding the injured has been forwarded to the Ministry of Home Affairs,” stated spokesperson Dr Budhathoki. As per the details, on October 17, at total of 2,522 individuals, on 18 January, 77, and on March 13, an additional 39 injured were sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

            According to spokesperson Dr Budhathoki, the highest number, 458, were treated at the Civil Service Hospital in New Baneshwor. In addition, 203 were treated at the Nepal Police Hospital, 190 at the National Trauma Centre, and 108 at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital.

20-       Oncologists from Nepal and India share experience in cancer treatment

            Ranjha (Banke), March 14: Oncologists from Nepal and India shared their experiences of treating cancer using new technology.

            Max Super Speciality Hospital in Lucknow, India, organised an educational programme on cancer treatment, exchange of new technology and experiences in collaboration with Nepal Medical Association (NMA) Bheri Chapter in Nepalgunj.

            The continuing medical education (CME) programme titled ‘Recent Updates in Oncology’ was concluded on Friday.

            At the programme, experts presented on the identification of cancer, surgery, and the latest advances in modern treatment methods.

            At the event, Dr Shashwat Verma, Director of Nuclear Medicine at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Lucknow, gave a presentation on ‘PET-CT as a Precision Tool in Patient Care’, stating that advanced imaging technology plays a crucial role in the early detection of cancer and accurately determining which stage the cancer is.

            Dr Rahul Yadav, Director of Urology, Kidney Transplant and Robotic Uro-Oncology at the same hospital, while presenting on ‘Robotics in Urology and Uro-Oncology: Our Experience’, explained that robotic-assisted surgery in patients with complex urological cancers has made treatment safer and more effective.

            In the next session of the programme, Dr Shashank Chaudhary, Principal Consultant at Max Super Speciality Hospital and an expert in Surgical Oncology and Robotic Surgery, spoke on ‘The Role of Robotic Surgery in Cancer Treatment’, explaining that minimally invasive surgery helps patients recover more quickly.

            At the programme, Dr Mukesh Yadav, Head of the Clinical Oncology Department at Sushil Koirala Prakhar Cancer Hospital in Khajura, Banke, gave a presentation on ‘The Role of Radiotherapy in Cancer Care’ and discussed the importance of modern radiation therapy (radiotherapy) in the treatment of various types of cancer.

            Lucknow is about two and a half hours drive from Nepalgunj, making it convenient for patients from western Nepal to receive treatment there, according to doctors. It has been reported that Max Super Speciality Hospital Lucknow has been providing comprehensive cancer treatment services under one roof.

21-       KMC warns of action against those creating artificial shortage of LP gas, fuel

            Kathmandu, March 14: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has warned of action on those involved in black marketeering of LP gas, diesel and petrol by creating the artificial shortage.  

            The KMC has stated that it has formed a surveillance mechanism after it received several complaints on artificial shortage of fuels, according to the Administration Chief of the KMC, Mahesh Kafle. 

            “We will book those creating public life uncomfortable by charging high on fuels by disseminating wrong information on shortage of the cooking gas,” Kafle added.    

            He has also urged the business people to supply the half-filled LP gas cylinder at Rs 955 and the consumers not to pay high than the set price.

            Kafle stated that hoarding of cooking gas for the fear of its shortage also created its shortfall in the market.

            The KMC has urged one and all to discharge their responsibility to maintain demand and supply chain of the cooking gas.

22-       ‘Cooperation of govt, NRNA, pvt sector needed to improve investment climate in Nepal’

            Kathmandu, March 14: Experts and stakeholders have asked the investors to make more investment in hydropower, tourism and information technology sectors since the investment climate in Nepal has become favourable.

            In the 12th Non-Resident Nepalis Association (NRNA) Global Conference being held in Kathmandu today, the speakers pointed out the chances of increased investment from Nepali diaspora given that policy stability, confidence and institutional mechanisms were set up.

            On the occasion, Chief Executive Officer of Investment Board of Nepal Sushil Gyawali said that collaboration between the government, NRNAs and private sector was needed while making a basis of confidence for investment in Nepal. 

            Gyawali shared that the Investment Board of Nepal was committed to investment facilitation adding that all should join hands to boost up investors’ confidence in the context of formation of a strong government.

            Executive Director of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Ram Sharan Kharel said that the time has come to link up Nepali migrant workers for the country’s sustainable economic development.

            Likewise, President of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Chandra Prasad Dhakal said the private sector was ready to bring in investment from Nepali diaspora through policy reforms as political stability was created in Nepal.

            Similarly, CEO of Nepal Tourism Board Deepak Raj Joshi said that promotion of cultural tourism was needed to connect the second generation Nepalis living abroad with their communities back in Nepal.

23-       NOC urges public against hoarding LPG

            Kathmandu, March 14: The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has called on the public to purchase Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) only as needed, discouraging its unnecessary storage.

            The NOC has also asked gas industries and sellers to prioritize the sale and distribution of LPG gas for household use.

            In a press release issued today, the Corporation noted that despite the ongoing conflict in West Asia impacting the global supply of petroleum products and LPG gas, it continues to supply and distribute these products regularly.

            NOC emphasized, “We request all gas industries nationwide to report to us by 10 am daily, providing details such as the quantity sold, addresses, and contact numbers of the sellers from their respective industries.”

            Furthermore, sellers are urged to keep records of the names and contact numbers of consumers, and quantities sold to them, and to relay this information to the Corporation through their respective industries each day.

            The Corporation has also announced that, in light of the current circumstances, it has arranged for all gas industries to market/fill 7.1 kilogram LPG gas cylinders at a reduced price of Rs 955 per cylinder, effective from Friday, until further notice.

24-       Six killed in microbus accident

            Gorkha, March 14: Six people were killed when a microbus they were travelling in met with an accident at Kantar of Sahid Lakhan Rural Municipality-3 in Gorkha district this evening.

            The microbus with registration plate number Ba Pra 01-006 Kha 8430 was carrying passengers who were returning after offering worship at the Manakamana Temple.

            Superintendent of Police Bharat Bahadur BK, head of the District Police Office, said all the deceased are Indian citizens.

            Superintendent of Police BK stated that initial information indicated 13 passengers were on the microbus and that full details of the injured and deceased are yet to be received.

25-       Role of police crucial to ensure robust law and order in country, Chief Minister Yadav says

            Mahendranagar (Dhanusha), March 14: Chief Minister of Madhesh Province Krishna Prasad Yadav has said that police organization and infrastructure development for this organization was imperative to make the country’s law and order situation further effective.

            Laying foundation of a Nepal Police Barrack in Madhesh Province Police Office on Saturday, the Chief Minister said that the Nepal Police should be given a favorable environment to work since Nepal Police is a crucial organ for the nation’s security.

            The Nepal Police should be made resourceful and the personnel be given a safe and well-managed environment to increase work efficiency of the Nepal Police. 

            The police personnel are working day and night to maintain security situation and it was the province government’s responsibility to bring about reforms in the basic facilities to the police officials, according to Chief Minister Yadav.

            On the occasion, Home Minister of Madhesh Province Government Phakira Mahato said that the province government was effectively managing the budget to modernize the police force and make it resourceful.

26-       Groundwater irrigation system becoming effective in Dhanusha and Mahottari

            Janakpurdham, March 14: The groundwater irrigation system has become effective in increasing agricultural productivity.

            This irrigation system installed by the Madhesh Province government in districts such as Dhanusha and Mahottari to promote irrigation facilities has provided great relief to farmers.

            Ramesh Sah, a farmer from Bardibas Municipality-2, Mahottari, said this irrigation technology has proven to be a boon for farmers in the absence of irrigation facility based on irrigation canals fed by water drawn from rivers, relying solely on rainwater.

            He explained that this technology has made not only irrigation for agriculture but also daily consumption easier.

            Deep tube wells and power drills have been installed in the rural areas here with the help of the Water Resources and Groundwater Irrigation Development Division Office.

            It is said a 40 bigha field is irrigated from one deep tube well.

            Office’s Engineer Amalesh Yadav said that so far 35 deep tube wells have been installed in Mahottari and Dhanusha, irrigating 1,400 bighas of arable land.

            The construction and operation of a deep tube well has cost more than 10 million rupees. Similarly, Engineer Yadav informed that currently 50 power drills have been constructed and are operating in the two districts.

            According to the information received from the office, an additional 81 power drills are in the process of being installed since the last fiscal year.

            “Nine bighas of land can be irrigated using a single power drill. The construction and operation of one power drill cost around Rs 1.6 million. So far, the construction of those 50 power drills, costing about Rs 12 million 960 thousand, has irrigated 450 bighas of land,” said Engineer Yadav.

            Nayan Pokharel, the head of the office, said that irrigation is being carried out on 1,850 bighas of land in both districts using deep wells and power drills. He added that the Office was established in 2041 BS to expand groundwater irrigation facilities in this area. —
