Kathmandu, March 25: Senior-most Member of the House of Representatives, Arjun Narsingh KC, has asserted that the Parliament and the government should address the limitless desires and aspirations expressed by the people in the elections.

Speaking after assuming office at the Federal Parliament Secretariat in Singha Durbar, KC said that it is everyone’s responsibility to fulfill their duties thoroughly, encompassing both the government and opposition for the overall benefit of the country.

Seventy-eight years old, KC, took the oath of office and secrecy from President Ramchandra Paudel earlier today.

Stating that our common enemies are poverty, disease, hunger, and misgovernance, he said the Parliament must play an effective role for defeating these.
“Since 2015 BS, there has been an unlimited mandate from the people with enthusiasm, and it is the duty of the Parliament and the government to protect it.

I will carry out the role of Speaker impartially and transparently. After holding the position of Speaker, one has to make ‘rulings’ based on the Constitution of the country, the Parliament’s regulations, and parliamentary practices. I will work as the protector of each member of Parliament’s privileges,” Senior-most MP KC said.

The senior-most MP has assumed the responsibility as the Speaker as preparations were underway to form a new government and convene the parliamentary session following the election to the Member of House of Representatives held on March 5.

KC will function as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the lower house of the Federal Parliament, until the House elects its Speaker. —
