Kathmandu, Apr. 3: The election of the Speaker of the House of Representatives is scheduled for 11:00 am on Sunday, April 5, at the parliament meeting hall, Singha Durbar. According to the schedule, proposals for candidates must be registered on April 3 between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm at Room No. 2 of the Parliament Secretariat. The list of registered candidates will be published at 2:30 pm the same day. The proposed candidates are required to submit a photocopy of their parliamentary membership and Nepali citizenship certificate.
Likewise, the election for the Vice-Chairman of the National Assembly has also been scheduled, with the notice period set for Sunday, April 5. Members may submit proposals between 2:30 pm and 4:30 pm at the Business Advisory Committee Hall, National Assembly Secretariat.
The list of candidates will be published at 4:00 pm, followed by a discussion and final decision during the assembly meeting on Monday, April 6, beginning at 9:00 am in the Assembly Meeting Room. These elections are being conducted under the respective parliamentary rules, with Padma Prasad Pandey, Secretary General, overseeing the process for both Houses.
Meanwhile, the Rastriya Swatantra Party, which holds the majority of seats in the House of Representatives, has nominated party vice president Dol Prasad Aryal as their candidate for Speaker. This decision was made following a meeting of their parliamentary party and on the recommendation of party president Rabi Lamichhane. With a majority in the House, Aryal is widely expected to become the next Speaker.
