Kathmandu, April 5: Member of the House of Representatives, Dol Prasad Aryal, has been elected as the 10th Speaker of Nepal.
He has been elected unopposed in today’s meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR), the lower house of the Federal Parliament. In the meeting, Rabi Lamichhane, President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and MP, had presented a proposal seeking election of Aryal as the Speaker.
The proposal was supported by MPs Sobita Gautam, Swarnim Wagle and Sunil Lamsal. Aryal was the Vice Chairman of RSP before this. The senior-most member of the HoR, Arjun Narsingh KC, has congratulated the newly-elected Speaker Aryal and wished him a successful term.
After the statement by those who proposed and seconded Aryal’s candidacy in the meeting, Senior-most MP KC, who was presiding over the meeting, declared that Aryal has been elected unopposed to the post of Speaker.
Newly elected Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dol Prasad Aryal, took the oath of office and secrecy before President Ramchandra Paudel at a special ceremony organised at the Office of the President, Shital Niwas, today.
On the occasion, Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Balendra Shah, Acting Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Sapana Pradhan Malla, National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal and high-ranking officials of the government were present.
Newly elected Speaker to the House of Representatives, Dol Prasad Aryal, has assumed the office at Singh Durbar-based Federal Parliament Secretariat.

After taking the oath of office and secrecy before President Ramchandra Paudel this afternoon, Speaker Aryal assumed the office. On the occasion, General-Secretary of the Federal Parliament Secretariat, Padma Prasad Pandey, as well as other high-ranking officials had welcomed Speaker Aryal.
Kathmandu, April 5: Dol Prasad Aryal, Vice Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), who has been unanimously elected as the tenth Speaker of the House of Representatives today, was born on 6 Bhadra 2031 BS (22 August 1974) in Jwalamukhi Rural Municipality, Dhading.
He was elected a member of the HoR from Kathmandu constituency no. 9 in the HOR Member election held on March 5. Aryal, who forayed into an alternative political force through continuous struggle, has also served as the Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security.
The newly elected Speaker Aryal has studied, conducted research, worked, and run businesses in various countries including Japan. Holding the belief that success in business and work is possible in the homeland, he has been active in the fields of tourism, education, and finance for the past 25 years.
Aryal, who has advanced business and politics together, played an important role in the establishment of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) in 2023. He is the founding vice-president of the RSP.
During the previous term of Parliament, while serving as the Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security, he made significant contributions to protecting workers’ rights, procedural reforms in the foreign employment sector, and social security.
In today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, senior member Arjun Narsingh KC announced that Aryal has been elected as the Speaker unopposed. Aryal has been elected unopposed for the post of Speaker of the House of Representatives after no candidates were nominated from other parties. In the 275-member House of Representatives, the Rastriya Swatantra Party has 182 MPs.
For the Head of the Parliament Aryal, has the role to conduct the parliament in a balanced manner while making laws, monitoring government activities, as well as ending political polarization and party differences.
He will also have to negotiate the works of managing bills and proposals on time, ensuring active participation of MPs and enforcing compliance with rules.
The Speaker is expected to make impartial decisions rising above party pressure and personal political interests, which has become a high expectation from the public and his responsibility.
