Bagmati Province Assembly to meet for summer session on April 7

Makawanpur, April 6: The summer session of the Bagmati Province Assembly is scheduled to take place on April 7. It is to commence at 4:00 pm tomorrow.

Bagmati Province Chief Deepak Prasad Devkota summoned the session in the given date, according to information officer at Devkota’s secretariat, Jagadish Rijal.The summoning of the session completes the required constitutional procedures, it is said.

The previous (winter) session of the PA had ended on November 22, 2025.

07-       Int’l industrial expo in Chitwan from April 10

Chitwan, April 6: The 10th international industrial exhibition is beginning here from April 10. The three-day expo is organized by Chitwan Chamber of Commerce.

Information about the event was shared at a press conference organized here today. Chamber Chairman Madan Ghimire said the exhibition would help boost production and export.

The industrial and agricultural products, handicrafts, plastics and packaging are in the display. Together in the exhibition are machineries and technologies applied in production and service industries.

The stalls will be managed from all seven provinces. The industries linked to national campaign of ‘Make in Nepal’ will have significant presence. The machineries of the National Innovation Centre are equally important attractions, according to Ghimire.

It is expected that over 25,000 industrialists and entrepreneurs will have participation in the expo having over 100 stalls. The Nepali products are exported to various countries including India, Ethiopia and Sri Lanka. The event would help international marketing of Nepali products.

The organizers further said event would also serve as a reminder to the government for creating atmosphere conductive to industries so that it would help foster entrepreneurship, employment and utmost use of local products.

08-       Minister Gurung for legal remedy of his land at Phewa Lake

Kathmandu, April 6: Home Minister Sudhan Gurung has clarified that he would opt for a legal remedy of his land at Fewa Lake, reasoning he was defrauded.

Home Minister Gurung said he would go for legal solution on the land, which was taken on lease for operating ‘Adventure Sports Nepal’ established a decade ago with an objective of promoting adventure tourism at Fewa Lake. It was however found against criteria.

While Pokhara Metropolitan City began enforcing a Supreme Court order by removing structures that encroached upon the Fewa Lake, it found that the land taken in lease by Home Minister Gurung affiliated company was an encroached area.

According to Minister Gurung’s secretariat, three partners including Minister Gurung are planning to wage legal struggle, citing the landlords had given the encroached land on lease without clear status of property.

“Before leasing the land, the landlords assured us that the land did not fall within 65-metre criteria. But we knew from the local level that the property was inside the stretch,” added secretariat.

09-       Mundum Trail Ultra Race-2082: Nirmala, Binod win titles

Khotang, April 6: Nirmala Rai of Khotang and Binod Thapa Magar have won the titles of the Mundum Trail Ultra Race–2082 BS.

Nirmala completed the 60-kilometer ultra race in the women’s category in 8 hours and 20 minutes, while Binod finished the race in 6 hours and 50 minutes to secure the men’s title.

Similarly, Ashma Bishwakarma from Rolpa became the first runner-up in the women’s category, completing the race in 9 hours and 21 minutes, while Angphurba Sherpa of Solukhumbu stood third with a time of 10 hours and 56 minutes.

In the men’s category, Arjun Kulung from Solukhumbu secured second place, completing the race in 6 hours and 56 minutes, while Milan Kulung from the same district finished third in 7 hours and 6 minutes.

The race started from Kopche of Hatuwagadhi Rural Municipality-9, Bhojpur and concluded at Tawa Bhanjyang of Sakela Rural Municipality-3 in Khotang. The route covered Bayam and Thamdanda in Aamchowk Rural Municipality, as well as Pamakhang Bhanjyang, Kapache, and Panchdhare in Sakela Rural Municipality-3.

The winners received cash prizes of Rs 80,000, Rs 60,000 and Rs 40,000 for the first, second and third places respectively.

In the 45-kilometer open men’s category, Amit Gurung of Kathmandu won the title, while Ramesh Limbu of Taplejung secured second place and Umesh Rai of Bhojpur finished third. In the women’s category, Pushpa Limbu of Panchthar became first, followed by Roshani Budha of Jumla the second and Rushma Rai of Bhojpur the third.

In the veteran men’s category, Yamanath Limbu of Dharan won the title, while Bijay Krishna Rai, also from Dharan, became the first runner-up and Resham Limbu from Sunsari finished third. In the veteran women’s category, Jamuna Rai and Binita Rai from Bhojpur secured first and second positions respectively.

Koshi Province Minister for Tourism, Forest and Environment, Bhim Prajauli, distributed awards, trophies, medals and certificates to the winners.

On the occasion, the Minister said that the Tawabhanjyang area, the origin of the Mundum Trail, has high potential for tourism development and the government is committed to its further promotion.

Swiss Ambassador to Nepal Dr Danielle Meuwly, President of the Koshi Province Assembly’s Economic Development Committee Binod Bantawa, and local representatives were present on the occasion.

10-       Traffic Police launches strict monitoring of drivers, books rule violators

Kathmandu, April 6: Traffic Police has launched a strict monitoring and action against those driving vehicles without abiding by traffic rules in the Kathmandu Valley.

The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office launched a special campaign after drawing the conclusion that consumption of alcohol, drugs and violation of traffic rules were major reasons behind increasing numbers of road accidents in recent period. Traffic police carry out checking in early morning targeting public vehicle drivers while riders of two-wheeler during day and evening.

Chief of the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, Senior Superintendent of Police Nabaraj Adhikari shared that the campaign was launched, keeping the passengers’ safety in priority and lessening road accidents. Dozens of drivers have faced action for they were found driving vehicles, consuming alcohol and drugs.

Meanwhile, the traffic police made a preparation to recommend the concerned bodies to scrap the license of those driving vehicles under influence of alcohol and drugs that keep passengers’ life at risk.

SSP Adhikari shared that a trend of driving vehicles carelessly is not acceptable, adding stern action should be taken against such drivers as fine is not enough for them. Even a process would be forwarded to revoke the license if needed.

Traffic Police Spokesperson Naresh Raj Subedi mentioned that such campaign would be continued in different places in coming days, and the drivers would be requested for safe travel. A total of 12 drivers operating vehicles under influence of alcohol have faced action in course of surprise checking carried out at different places in Kathmandu Valley this morning.

Subedi added that action was taken against 12 drivers—two each of public vehicles and mini-truck, one each of school bus, micro bus, tempo (three-wheeler), tourist van, and three of private cars.  The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has urged passengers to inform the nearby police office or call at hotline number of traffic control room if drivers show suspicious activities.

11-       HoR meeting kicks off

Kathmandu, April 6: The House of Representatives (HoR) has kicked off at multi-purpose building of federal parliament.

Home Minister Sudhan Gurung is scheduled to present three ordinances in the meeting today. The ordinances being tabled are- ‘Voters’ List (first amendment) Ordinance, 2082′; ‘House of Representatives Member (first amendment) Ordinance, 2082’; and ‘Nepal Special Service (second amendment) Ordinance, 2082’.

12-       NA members draw govt attention on multiple issues

Kathmandu, April 6: National Assembly members have drawn government attention on multiple issues in the ongoing National Assembly meeting.

During the special hour of the meeting, NA member Ram Kumari Jhakri said the narrative that it would was nothing negative to burn state’s important structures like Supreme Court should be proved wrong.

Jhakri stressed fair investigation on Gen Z movement and the state should be made responsible.

Similarly, Ranjit Karna shared that the Nepali Congress would support the government for positive change, good governance and prosperity. Though the Constitution has ensured rights, the people have not achieved expected outcome in lack of effective implementation of rights, he underscored.

Karna added, “The NC has experience, energy and idea of innovation and the new government has the willpower of energy and innovation. I am confident that the combination of these two can head the country towards right path.” Clarifying that the NC would fully support for positive change, he argued the party would oppose the activities carried out against people’s interest.

13-       President calls NRNA to inspire for investment in motherland

Kathmandu, April 6: President Ramchandra Paudel has urged the Non-Resident Nepalis Association (NRNA) to inspire people for investing in motherland and utilizing potential.

At a meeting with newly elected NRNA representatives at his office, Shitalniwas today, President Paudel further reminded the representatives that they could cooperate for Nepal’s journey to good governance and economic prosperity and make Nepal known to international arena.

“Hydropower, tourism, agriculture, infrastructure, IT, education and health are potential areas of investment,” he said, adding Nepal is a neighbour to world’s large population, India and China. Nepal’s access to markets there can be utilized for building infrastructures and intensifying industrialization and internal production.   

The Head of State also shared that country was freed from uncertainty and adversity after the HoR election through which people gave mandate for development and prosperity along with social justice and good governance. President Paudel underscored the need of advancing country based on values, principles and philosophy of federal democratic republic.

According to him, a perspective plan was prepared to develop Chundiramgha of Tanahu, birthplace of Adikavi Bhanubhakta Acharya, as a destination of literary tourism. He expressed belief that NRNA would extend support for it.

The Head of State also congratulated the newly elected leadership of NRNA and wished the team became successful to encompass all Nepalis living abroad in its initiatives.

On the occasion, newly elected Chairman Dr Hemraj Sharma shared NRNA’s activities and future plans.

14-       HoR approves three ordinances

Kathmandu, April 6: The House of Representatives (HoR) has approved three ordinances presented in the meeting today.

The ordinances approved were ‘Voters’ List (first amendment) Ordinance, 2082′; HoR Election (first amendment) Ordinance, 2082′; and ‘Nepal Special Service (second amendment) Ordinance, 2082’.

Home Minister Sudhan Gurung had tabled the proposal in the meeting, seeking endorsement of the ordinances.

Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal informed that the ordinances were endorsed unanimously because no information against endorsement was received.

The meeting also passed a condolence motion on the demise of former lawmaker from Nepali Communist Party, Ram Chandra Bhattarai.

The HoR will meet next on at 1:00pm next day.

15-       No intention to trouble share market: Finance Minister Dr Wagle

Kathmandu, April 6: Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Walge said the government has not come down hard on small investors and created any fear in share market.

During his discussion with the Society of Economic Journalists- Nepal (SEJON) here today, the Finance Minister argued that the government has a clear policy towards share market. “It has not intended to unnecessarily target the small investors.” As he said, any move to frighten the share market is inappropriate.

Nepal’s share market is more systematic and transparent than other sectors, he commented, adding that paperless system, transactions through a banking system, the deposits of dividend direct into the bank accounts, a clear tax system and the tracking system for sell and purchase have increased the credibility in the stock market.

“We have taken the stock market as a model area of digitalization,” he said, adding that such model will be expanded to other areas as well. Stating that there is no situation for interrogating the share market investors about the source of the investment, he reiterated that the government has not pursued a policy of carrying out a crackdown on the share market.

The Finance Minister, however, warned of action to those involved in insider trading, manipulation and other unethical practices. He urged investors not to panic over the decline in the market, promising efforts to further improve this sector. “Golden days are ahead. This government has a five-year term and the one-week scenario is too insufficient to reach the conclusion.”

He took time to say that to free the country from the gray list of the Financial Action Task Force is the first priority of the government, reinstating its image internationally.

As Dr Wagle said, the ongoing investigations into money-laundering and financial offences are based on long-term evidences and the government has a policy of prioritising economic fine in the white-color crimes.

The government never intends to practice a selective action against any individual or institution, according to the Minister who said the government believes in open economic policy, but not the uncontrolled one.

16-       NA session: annual report presented, condolence motion passed

Kathmandu, April 6: An annual report of the Indigenous Nationalities Commission for the fiscal year, 2025/26 has been presented before the National Assembly.

Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Sobita Gautam, on behalf of Prime Minister Balendra Shah, presented the document before the upper house of federal parliament.  

Similarly, the meeting also endorsed a condolence motion over the demise of the NA former member Ramchandra Bhattarai. The proposal tabled by NA Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal was endorsed by the meeting unanimously.

Bhattarai, a communist party leader, had passed away on January 27 at the age of 84. The meeting also observed a minute of silence over the demise of Bhattarai.

The NA shall meet again at 1:15 pm on April 8.

17-       15-member committee formed to draft HoR regulation

Kathmandu, April 6: A 15-member committee has been formed to draft a new regulation of the House of Representatives (HoR).

In today’s HoR meeting, a proposal for the formation of the committee under chairmanship of RSP lawmaker Ganesh Parajuli was passed unanimously.

Dr Ojashwi Sherchan, Ain Bahadur Mahar, Khagendra Sunar, Khusbu Oli, Gajala Samim Mikrani, Tapeshwor Yadav, Dhurba Raj Rai, Nisha Dangi, Nishcal Rai, Balawati Sharma, Madhu Chaulagain, Yagyamani Neupane, Rekha Kumari Yadav and Dr Shulav Kharel, are the members of the committee.

The committee will determine its procedure under general direction of the Speaker. It has been given a 14-day working period from the date of the commencement of the task. 

Sita Thapaliya, Ganesh Singh Thagunna, Yubraj Dulal, Dhurba Raj Rai, Bharat Giri and Pushpa Kumari Chaudhary seconded the proposal.

The HoR runs under HoR Regulations of 2079 until the formulation of the new one.

Meanwhile, Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal nominated members in the Management Consultative Committee under the HoR.

They are Dr Achyut Lamichhane, Afsana Banu, Aryan Rai, KP Khanal, Kamini Chaudhary, Kranti Shikha Dhital, Khushbu Oli, Ganesh Singh Thagunna, Guru Prasad Baral, Ganga Laxmi Awal, Tapeshwor Yadav, Devraj Pathak, Narendra Kumar Kerung, Prakash Chandra Pariyar, Nisha Dangi, Bodh Narayan Shrestha, Mina Kumari Yadav, Yubraj Dulal, Rajan Gautam, Dr Ram Lama and Bipin Kumar Acharya.

18-       Minister Dr Timilsina, FNJ discuss advertisement issues

Kathmandu, April 6: A team of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) held a meeting with Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Dr Bikram Timilsina.

The discussion featured a recent decision of the government on advertisement.

The FNJ delegation led by its Chairperson Nirmala Sharma drew the Minister’s attention towards the directive issued by the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on April 1. The directive had mandated the publication and broadcasting of government notices and advertisements only in government media.

On the occasion, Minister Dr Timilsina made it clear that the amount of government advertisement was grossly misused; working journalists were not benefitted; and brokers were taking advantage of the previous scheme that prompted the government to issue such directive.      

The Minister, however, informed that he was always for working journalists and vowed meeting genuine demands.

The FNJ delegation requested the Minister to reconsider the directive and maintain transparency in advertisement.

19-       HoR meeting: Lawmaker univocal on developing parliament as venue for amplifying public voices

Kathmandu, April 6: Lawmakers airing their views during a special hour of the House of Representatives (HoR) today echoed the need for developing the parliament as a venue for amplifying citizens’ voices.

The lawmakers from both the ruling and opposition parties were of the view of keeping the ideological diversities aside and uniting for strengthening the parliament, governance system and the entire system. 

Kabindra Burlakoti of the Rastriya Swatantra Party hoped the Speaker would facilitate the House towards enhancing the parliament, governance and the entire system.

Another lawmaker from the RSP, Manish Jha, stressed that lawmakers were expected to deliver effectively in the interests of citizens. “We are witnesses that if citizens’ concerns are dismissed in the parliament, they will react blatantly,” he said. Jha urged all lawmakers to fulfill their responsibilities, keeping the recent youth protests in mind.

Arjun Narsingh of the Nepali Congress expressed the view that the more opposition voices are strengthened and turned constructive in parliament, the more alive democracy will be.

Ain Bahadur Mahar of the CPN (UML) urged the government to correct its announcement regarding the dismissal of Student Unions, which relentlessly fight for students’ rights. He warned that banning the student unions could be seen as a demonstration of the government’s authoritarianism.

Bishnumaya BK of the same party urged the government to formulate and implement the plans to address digital violence against women.

Dhurba Raj Rai of the Shram Sanskriti Party stressed that the government with nearly a two-thirds majority should address the people’s aspirations for development and prosperity.

Khusbu Oli of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party demanded the government that it briefed the House about its decision to accept the a large volume of soft loans for Digital Nepal Transformation Project and Sustainable and Inclusive Finance Project from the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank.

RSP members Ganesh Parajuli, Nisha Danghi, Ram Lama and Khagendra Sunar advised the government not to hesitate hearing civic concerns.

20-       Bird-flu detected at 23 places in a month

Kathmandu, April 6: Bird flu has been detected at 23 places in the month of Chait this year. Director General at Department of Livestock Services, Dr Umesh Dahal, confirmed this.

The first case of bird-flu was detected on March 20 (Chait 6) for the first time in Sundarharaicha municipality and Urlabari municipality of Koshi Province.

Twelve places in Sunsari, seven in Morang, two in Jhapa, one in Chitwan and one in Kathmandu recorded bird flu so far. A total of 104,000 domestic fowls were culled from these places in order to prevent the spread of the bird-flu.

Bird-flu was detected on crow in the premises of Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu as well. Dr Dahal added that import and export of fowls have been banned after bird-flu was spread in Sunsari, Jhapa and Morang districts.

The government destroys the flu infected chicken and provides 75 per cent compensation to the farmers.

21-       Speaker Aryal commits to playing impartial role

Kathmandu, April 6: Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Dol Prasad Aryal, has vowed playing a neutral and coordinating role so that parliamentarians in HoR are behaved equally.

Chairing the very first meeting of the HoR since his election as Speaker, he expressed hope for support and cooperation from all quarters to promote good constitutional practices by utilizing the parliament as a venue for effective performance.

He said that he had taken his election as an opportunity to fulfill responsibilities towards promoting good governance and economic development. “People have sent us here with a mandate to achieve good governance and explore economic development in the spirit of the Gen Z movement,” he said, adding that they must not miss this opportunity in any context.

The Speaker also called on lawmakers to work in a planned manner, honouring the commitments and promises made to voters during the elections, treating them as political agreements between the parties. Aryal also thanked all those who decided to elect him to the post unopposed.
