Published Date : April 12, 2026

Kathmandu, April 12: Considering that healthcare services could be affected in public healthcare institutions following the government’s decision to implement a two-day weekly holiday, the Ministry of Health and Population has urged stakeholders to ensure uninterrupted services from public health facilities.

Issuing a press statement today, the Ministry has underscored the need for providing health care services even on public holidays so that patients won’t have to suffer.

Likewise, the Ministry has thanked the hospitals for running OPD services even on public holidays in most of the hospitals, abiding by the appeal made by the government.

The Ministry has stated that it was aware of the complaints received from doctors, health workers and service providing institutions and the Ministry was positive and committed to resolving the concerns of the health professionals.

The Ministry has made it clear that it was the major responsibility of all to continue health care services, considering the sensitivities of public health.

Likewise, the Ministry has shared that it was working to prepare a procedure to make health service delivery more systematic, balanced and sustainable by coordinating with all stakeholders. Until the procedure comes into implementation, the Ministry has urged all to run the services from existing means and human resources, and has expected continued support and coordination from all health professionals.

Meanwhile, Minister for Health and Population Nisha Mehata on Sunday made inspection visits to Bir Hospital and Shahid Gangalal National Heart Centre.

After monitoring the hospitals, Minister Mehata said the service buyers should feel relief instead of hassles from government-run hospitals.

On the occasion, she took stock of the situation there and received public feedback as well.

After the visits to the hospitals, Minister Mehata directed the officials to pay attention to hospitals’ sanitation and supplies of drugs, and ask the management sides to make the management part accessible and technology-friendly.
