Mount Everest day observed in Seoul

Kathmandu, May 30: The 73rd Sagarmatha Diwas (Mt Everest Day) was celebrated in Seoul, South Korea, organized by the Embassy of Nepal in collaboration with the Um Hong Gil Human Foundation.

During the event, Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal delivered a video message, congratulating Korean mountaineers and inviting them, along with tourism professionals and tourists, to explore Nepal’s unique natural beauty, diverse culture, and adventure opportunities.

Chargé d’ Affaires at the Nepali Embassy in South Korea, Nirmal Prasad Bhattarai, encouraged Korean citizens to visit Nepal, highlighting the country’s mountains, cultural heritage, and hospitality. He addressed the pressing issue of climate change affecting the Himalayan region, emphasizing the need for international cooperation to protect the ecosystem.

Bhattarai mentioned the initiation of the ‘Sagarmatha Samvad (Dialogue),’ a platform for multilateral discussions on climate change and sustainable development, which aims to foster collaboration on these critical issues. The programme in Seoul featured discussions among climbers, tourism professionals, and experts regarding the future of mountain tourism in Nepal, the challenges posed by climate change, and the promotion of sustainable tourism practices.

The event was attended by around 115 participants, including members of the Korean and Nepali communities, tourism professionals, representatives of media and various organizations. —-
