Obstruction of opposition parties ends, HoR meeting underway

Kathmandu, June 10: With the end of obstruction of opposition parties, a meeting of the House of Representatives has commenced.
The HoR meeting, scheduled from 2:00 pm, is now in progress from 3:15 pm. The lawmakers from opposition parties had been obstructing the House proceedings taking over the statement of Prime Minister Balendra Shah regarding Nepal-India border issues in HoR meeting on May 31.
The meeting is now taking place after an understanding was reached between the government and opposition parties that the government would make clear about the issue in today’s meeting.
Now in urgent time, lawmakers have been drawing attention of the government on contemporary issues.
An agenda has been set for today’s meeting where Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle is to present the proposal seeking commencement of discussions on annual estimation of revenue and expenditure for fiscal year 2083/84.

Similarly, an agenda has been set according to which Finance Minister would respond to queries raised during the discussions on the annual estimation of revenue and expenditure.

MPS draw government’s attention on various issues

During the ‘urgent time’ of today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, MPs drew the government’s attention to issues such as human trafficking, violence against women, foreign employment misdeeds, and religious conversion.
Gyanu Paudel raised the issue of 453 Nepali citizens rescued from India and stated that Nepali youth are falling into the trap of human trafficking.
She informed that 453 Nepalis from 40 districts were successfully rescued from various parts of India and brought to Nepal, and that an investigation into the incident is currently underway.
“Activities as trafficking Nepali citizens to India enticing them with lucrative jobs, engaging them in the ‘networking’ business and subjecting them to physical and mental torture have been taking place,” she said.
Paudel thanked the government for successfully rescuing the victims and demanded stern action against those involved in the trafficking in humans.
Balawati Sharma expressed concern over the increasing cases of violence against women and urged the government to take effective measures to curb them.
Aaren Rai said that thousands of candidates are in confusion after the cancellation of the examination for care-giver to work in Israel. He called on the government to be sensitive to the candidates’ future and end the state of confusion.

Khusbu Oli said the act of religious conversion is objectionable and urged the government to take necessary steps to check such activities while respecting the freedom of religion as provided in the constitution and the laws.

PM should respond in parliament, demands Shram Sanskriti Chair Rai

Chairperson of the Shram Sanskriti Party, Harka Raj Rai, has said Prime Minister Balendra Shah should present in the House of Representatives and respond the dispute surfaced due to PM Shah’s statement on Nepal-India border issue.
In today’s HoR meeting, Chair Rai argued that the government should be responsible towards the parliament.

The HoR meeting, called for 11:00 am today, is now taking place from 3:15 pm.
