Published Date : June 28, 2026

Kathmandu, June 28: Minister for Health and Food Safety Nisha Mehta said that the proposed bill relating to Health Sciences Academies will help eliminate anomalies and irregularities within the institutions and bring transformative changes to the country’s health sector.
Responding to questions raised by lawmakers during the general discussion in today’s meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR), Minister Mehta asserted that the bill would make the appointment process of Vice-Chancellors at Health Sciences Academies more transparent.

Minister Mehta had presented the proposal seeking consideration on the bill earlier in the meeting. The ‘Bill to Amend Certain Nepal Acts related to Health Sciences Academy, 2083 BS’ was subsequently endorsed by a majority in the Lower House.

During the deliberations, lawmakers such as Abhishek Pratap Shah, Aren Rai, Samikshya Baskota, Ashok Kumar Chaudhary and Sajida Khatun Siddiqui among others univocally voiced that the Bill seeks to make healthcare services more people-oriented.

Meanwhile, today’s meeting also passed a condolence motion on the demise of former HoR member Rajendra Kharel. Kharel was elected from Kavrepalanchowk constituency no 4 representing the Nepali Congress in the general election of 2056 BS.

He had also served as the State Minister for Education and Women, Children and Social Welfare. He passed away on June 21 at the age of 80. The HoR is meeting again at July 2 at 11:00 am. —
