64 dead bodies recovered on Trishuli, Narayani riverbanks

Chitwan, Aug. 27: Sixty four dead bodies were retrieved from the Trishuli and Narayani riverbanks in Chitwan district. The bodies were swept downstream by the floodwaters from the Bhotekoshi River occurred on Wednesday morning. Officials said that whole body and the mortal remains (body parts) are also recovered on the riverbanks.

The Chief of District Police Office Chitwan, Superintendent of Police (SP) Rameshwor Paudel, confirmed that the retrieved dead bodies have been kept at the Bharatpur Hospital’s mortuary. According to SP Paudel, nine dead bodies recovered in Tanahun have been sent to Tanahun district itself due to lack of space to keep the dead bodies at the district hospital in Chitwan.

All three security bodies deployed in Chitwan district have continued the search operations for those missing on the riverbanks. The dead bodies to be retrieved from the rivers now onwards will be kept at the Office of the Industrial Business Development Corporation in Bharatpur citing lack of space in the hospital, SP Paudel added. —
