Bhotekoshi floods: 143 persons from Sudurpaschim Province still unaccounted for, 71 come in contact

Sudurpaschim, Sept 15: Although 71 persons from Sudurpaschim Province who had gone missing since the August 26 disaster came in contact, 143 are still missing.

The Emergency Operation Centre in Sudurpaschim shared informed that the missing persons were working at Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, Chitwan and Tanahu districts. A person from the province was confirmed dead in the disaster.

Chief of disaster section at Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law in the province, Janak Dhami, said the province government collected information on the missing ones and those come in contact since the catastrophic flood.

So far, those establishing contact with relatives after the devastation were 11 women and 60 men, while among the missing ones, 13 are women and 130 men. Kailali district has recorded highest number of people,67,gone missing in the floods, while Kanchapur recorded 26 missing, Dadeldhura 17, Doti and Achham two each, Bajura 16, Baitadi seven, Darchula four.

The one confirmed dead in the devastation was from Baitadi. The family of the victim received the dead body and performed last rites, according to the Emergency Operation Centre.

The families of those missing in the disaster had lodged complaints at the Emergency Centre, exerting pressure on governments to speed up search and rescue of those unaccounted for. —
