20th Asian Games: Evana, Rubin win table tennis mix doubles

Kathmandu, Sept 22: Evana Thapa and Rubin Maharjan of Nepal has won today’s match in table tennis mix doubles under the 20th Asian Games taking place at Aichi Nagoya in Japan.

In the first-round match held at Sky Hall Toyota in Japan on Tuesday, Evana and Rubin defeated Muhammad Khan and Kalsum Khan of Pakistan by 3-0. Nepal won the first set by 11-6, second set by 11-8 and third set by 11-4.

The team of Evana and Rubin will now face the mixed double team of Hong Kong on Wednesday. However, Samyog Kapali and Nabita Shrestha, of Nepal were eliminated from the first round under the same category. —

20th Asian Games: Nepal posts victory in women’s kabaddi

Meanwhile, Nepal has registered a win in women’s Kabaddi at the 20th Asian Games taking place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Nepal defeated Thailand. In Group ‘B’, Nepal beat Thailand 46–43 in their first match held today at Tokai Citizen Gymnasium in Japan.

Nepal had a weak performance in the first half and was trailing 15–24. Later, Nepal made a comeback in the second half, scoring 31 points while Thailand was limited to 19 points. Sri Lanka and Chinese Taipei are also in Group ‘B’ along with Nepal and Thailand.

Women’s team coach Parbati Rai shared that Nepal will play against Chinese Taipei in their second group stage match set for Wednesday. The top two teams from the four-team Group ‘B’ will advance to the semi-finals. Similarly, Group ‘A’ consists of India, Bangladesh, Japan, and Iran.

It may be noted that earlier, at the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China in 2023, Nepal had won a bronze medal in women’s Kabaddi. —
