Bodies of two climbers brought to Kathmandu

Gorkha, Sept 23: The bodies of two persons who died after an avalanche buried them at the base of Mt Manaslu have been taken to Kathmandu.
The district police office in Gorkha said the bodies were transported from Chumunubri-1 in Samagaun, to Kathmandu by helicopter on Wednesday morning.
Dhruvjyoti Guha, a German citizen of Indian origin, and his companion Makalu-2, Sunkhuwasabha’s Phursemba Sherpa, died after being buried in an avalanche at the third camp last Sunday night.
Three days after the incident, their bodies were taken to Samagaun on Tuesday. From there, they were taken to the Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu early Wednesday morning, Deputy Superintendent of Police Raj Kumar Shrestha said.
They had gone on mountaineering expedition from Makalu Adventure Company Pvt. Ltd. With this, the number of people who have died on Manaslu has reached four. Earlier, a 50-year-old Singaporean climber, Lauwi Seng, had also died at the second camp. Similarly, a 20-year-old Nepali assistant, Tasi Sherpa, had also died at the base camp.
This season, 493 foreign climbers have obtained permits to climb Mt Manaslu, also known as Killer Mountain. No one has been able to succeed in climbing the mountain so far this season due to bad weather. Heavy snowfall and continuous rains have forced climbers to return to Kathmandu. —
